Sebek inhaled sharply as he was on defense, his opponent cold and calculated with each strike. A dancing of swords, sabers, footwork, elegance, and two dancers on the stage performing. Sebek was growing tired of being on the defensive, with one last burst of energy he unleashed a flurry of attacks, forcing his opponent on the defensive. His opponent attempted a counter-attack but they both found themselves at an impasse. A draw. Sebek had only won against this opponent a handful of times, but they had come to draws more times than he could count.

Both opponents exhausted by their workout, they removed their masks, each revealing a mirrored face of admiration.
"You did well Sebek."
"Hah! It was only a draw! I will beat you next time Silver!" Sebek laughed, he had grown up with Silver for as long as he could remember, they were next-door neighbors, best friends, rivals, and confidants. Sebek couldn't imagine his life without Silver, nor Silver his. Silver fully removed his mask to reveal dashingly beautiful silver hair, eyes that can't be described as blue or purple, they seemed to shift colors constantly in the tricky light, sweat dripped from his brow as he smiled softly. 'Kill me now' Sebek cried inwardly, he had been quite smitten with his best friend, rival, for years now. Unfortunately Silver could be quite possibly the densest creature on the planet, Sebek screamed internally as he attempted to act normal. He could blame the flush on his cheeks as exertion. Yeah. That would work.

"Are you overheated?" Silver asked with concern visible in his eyes, "You're a bit flushed, here, drink from my water bottle."
"Uh,y- yeah," Sebek reached over while trying hard not to think about where Silver's lips had been mere seconds ago, 'I'M INADVERTENTLY KISSING SILVER-' his mind panicked, he could feel the heat rising through his face, he was sure that his whole face was red. Quickly he made an excuse about going to the bathroom as he bolted for the door. He burst into the hallway and tried to calm himself down, he could hear a conversation between Silver and his father in the previous room.

"Dad, you think Sebek is okay?" Silver asked, concern heavily laced in his smooth voice,
"Hehe, yes, I'm sure that boy will be fine, now why don't you clean up. I'll go find that boy."
"Okay." He could hear Silver starting to pack up their gear and he let out a sigh of relief.

"Sebek, you can't hide here forever,"
"Mr. Vanrouge!" Sebek startled, "I- I uh- Uh-"
"Fufufu, how many times have I told you? Lilia is fine, now tell me, why are you suddenly hiding from my son?" Mr. Vanr- Lilia, was a short man with a ton of personality, Sebek could remember all the times he had sleepovers at Silver's and Lilia would be there making sure they had fun, from showing off his weird collect of medieval stuff, to watching movie marathons with them.

Lilia looked at him with a knowing glint in his eye when Sebek failed miserably to answer, Lilia let out a dramatic sigh,
"My dear child will never notice, but dear," He turned addressing Sebek, "When you do propose, do invite me to the wedding. Don't forget Malleus as well." Sebek sputtered and choked on air as he tried to respond, his face heating up faster and ten times hotter than before,
"MR.- LILIA!?" was all he could get out before Lilia turned for the door, chuckling to himself something about wedding gifts.

Sebek sank to the floor for who knows how long until he felt a tap on his shoulder, he looked up to see Malleus, Silver's older brother.
"Why do you sit here and not the bench beside you?" He asked, gesturing to Sebek's left, "I've watched you whimper and rock for the past hour, Dad and Silver have already left, they told me to make sure you came out eventually." Malleus' behavior had always struck Sebek as odd, he seemed like an old soul even though he was only a year older than Silver, although that whole family was full of oddballs. Not that Sebek could call them that either, he'd be a hypocrite to say that, knowing his own parents and siblings.

"I uh, am just recovering." Sebek replied half-heartedly, Malleus looked like he was about to contradict that, but then saw Sebek's face and instead offered
"Do you need someone to talk to? I can always lend an ear." It's like that simple statement flipped a switch for Sebek, suddenly he was gushing about his childhood best friend/crush, how hard he was pining for him, and everything he adored about Silver, TO SILVER'S OLDER BROTHER OF ALL PEOPLE! Malleus listened thoughtfully and never interrupted,
"Hmm. Ah, well, this complicates things."
"HUH?"
"Sebek, lower your voice. I had already thought you two were dating," Malleus replied, lost in thought, "That explains your erratic behavior as of late... I assure you that whatever decision you make, you will have my support. Unless of course you plan to hurt my brother." Sebek gulped as he processed this information, "I will ask my brother on this issue?" Malleus mused,
"No! I will- I'll- I can discuss it with him." Sebek interjected, Malleus only replied with a hum and an amused glint in his eyes.

Sebek's phone sat in his hands, a few notifs from various people, but he couldn't bring himself to answer any of them, much less try to text Silver, he continued to fiddle with it,
"Dude. You've been pacing for the past hour, just text him." His sister said from her position on his bed, she was home for the holidays but usually she was at college studying,
"IT'S NOT THAT SIMPLE!" Sebek cried,
"Uh, yes it is." She rolled her eyes, "'Hey Silver, I've had a crush on you since childhood, do you want to go out with me?' See, short and simple." His phone chimed,
"Do you wish to send voice message?" panic struck Sebek making his blood run cold, he hadn't realized that he'd hit record while he was fiddling. At the same time Sebek shouted no, his sister screamed yes. Time seemed to slow down, he felt his heart beat adrenaline and desperately hoped- prayed- that it hadn't sent.

"Message sent."

Sebek was starting to malfunction, he was malfunctioning so bad he couldn't even yell at his sister. He was reduced to whimpering on the floor praying that Silver wouldn't hate him. A chime on his phone. Sebek squeezed his eyes, heart pounding. A second chime five minutes later. Sebek mustered up the courage to look at his messages, the notif read Silver.

Silver: I thought we were already dating lol? (5 min ago)
Silver: Are you there? (now)

Sebek sputtered as he tried to process what he was seeing, his sister rushed over and ripped his phone from his hands, she did a quick once over, looked at Sebek on the floor, and back at the phone. She erupted into the most atrocious laughter bellowing throughout the house, she doubled over as she cried and between gasps of air,
"OH MY GOD. I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU!" She collapsed to the floor, "FOR YEARS, MY BABY BROTHER HAS BE PINING FOR HIS BEST FRIEND. AND THE BEST FRIEND THOUGHT THEY WERE ALREADY-" she couldn't talk anymore as she was wheezing for air as she laughed. Sebek felt his face heat up as he was about to unleash his rage.

"Is someone dying!?" His father burst into the room seeing his daughter and son on the floor, weakly and still trembling with laughter, Sebek's sister held up his phone for his dad to see. His dad looked at the messages did a once over of Sebek and started laughing too,
"This isn't funny!" Sebek cried, "How was I supposed to know!?" Sebek's sister finally calmed down enough,
"Have you ever seen Silver act that close with literally anyone else?" mirth in her eyes, "He's taken you out to dinner too!" Sebek recalled all the times he spent with Silver,
"I thought he was just being a good friend! I've taken him out before! To see the latest movie, as friends!"
"He probably thought you were taking him out on a date," his dad added, "You only ever take him out to places just the two of you." a smile lighting his dad's face.

Sudden realization dawned on him. Silver was not the dense one here. He was. Sebek quickly grabbed his phone and texted his friends, acquaintances?

Sebek: ARE ME AND SILVER DATING?

Instant replies.

Jack: How are we supposed to know if you don't?

Epel: Yes?

Jack: I would think you are with how much time you guys spend with each other

Ace: lmao
Ace: u don't know?
Ace: L

Deuce: wait what? Silver and Sebek? their a thing?

Jack: *they're

Ace: vro no one caers

The conversation continued into chaos about grammar and spelling, but Sebek wasn't paying attention. Everyone and their mother thought that Sebek and Silver were dating. His phone chimed again, this time from Silver,

Silver: Um you're scaring me
Silver: We are dating right?

Sebek scrambled to reply,

Sebek: Yes!
Sebek: I am ashamed to admit that I did not realize we were dating

Typing...

Silver: I thought it was obvious?
Silver: (Lila hereeee) YOU FOOL I DIDN'T REALIZE YOU WERE THIS DENSE!!!!!!1

A couple minutes passed,

Silver: Sorry
Silver: My dad grabbed my phone and wouldn't let go
Silver: You're sill there right?
Silver: Meet me at the park

-~-

Sebek had rushed to the park despite the cold, though now he regretted not pulling on a coat, all he had was lounge clothes and fuzzy slippers on. Oh well. Up ahead he could see Silver sitting on a bench under a lamppost.

"You came," Silver looked up at him, a faint blush warming his fair skin, although it could be cold Sebek reasoned, "How did you not realize we were dating?" he chuckled and stood, very close. Sebek could see his reflection in Silver's eyes, his breath nearly stolen.
"You never said anything!" Sebek stammered trying to keep the heat from rising,
"Does everything need words?" Sebek could see Silver's breath rising in the air, "You look cold Sebek," Despite the heat rising in his face, he was freezing and trying not to shiver too hard,
"I- I'm f-fine."

Silver chuckled,
"No you're not," Silver pulled him down into a kiss. Sebek's legs almost gave out, he melted into the kiss ignoring the cold. The world seemed to fall away from Sebek, leaving only him and Silver. He pulled Silver into an embrace and held each other for a while. A nice long while.
