Chapter Text
Empty. Thats all he feels. This emptiness that swallows his being whole.
…
Tsukasa Tenma is a star. A bright star who shines above everyone else—or Atleast thats what he strives to be.
A star who brings smiles to those around him, a star that can bring joy to even the dullest of souls.
But how can a person achieve that, when he can’t even bring that joy to himself ?
-
There’s only 4 months of school left before Tsukasa starts Highschool. School is okay, he doesn’t really care for it too much. He has friends, he gets along with his peers. But no one there seems to understand him.
They can laugh at his jokes, be impressed by his theatrical performances, but no one will ever ‘get him’, you know?
“Tsukasa, we’re here.” The tired voice of his mother snaps his focus away from the tree he’s staring at through the car window. He makes eye contact with his mother through the rear view mirror, shes got her glasses on and is currently waiting for him to get out. And so he does.
“bye mom! Thanks for dropping me off” he waves to her as he steps out of the car. She drives off without a word. Tsukasa doesn’t blame her. Shes constantly busy after all. She rarely drops him off anyway— their home is a walkable distance from school and he could always just take the train anyway.
Tsukasa thinks about what he’ll do once school is out for today. He’s thinking of visiting his sister, Saki, at the hospital. He hasn’t visited her since Monday.
It’s Tuesday.
The way to his first period was a blur and he finds himself within range of his sit in minutes. He sits down. He doesn’t have a seat mate, it’s not like nobody wanted to sit next him, it’s just that everyone had someone else they’d rather sit next to.
Maybe on a kind merciful day someones seat mate woukd be absent, and so they’d go find a friend in Tsukasa— well of course they would! Tsukasa is everybody’s friend.
“All right class,” Tsukasa perks up at the sound of his teacher’s voice. “We have a new student joining us today” the teacher gestures to a rather tall kid with overgrown purple and (cyan?)’ hair. “Please introduce yourself” The teacher mutters. Tsukasa, as well as the other students, at stare at this new student with intrigue.
“H-hi…I’m kamishiro…Rui” he mumbles loud enough for majority of the class to hear. Rui fiddles with his hands nervously, desperate to finally sit down.
The class of students began to whisper, not gossiping about Rui, necessarily, but just whispering.
“He’s so shy” one student muttered.
“He’s tall” another student mentioned.
“He looks…werid”
That comment caught Tsukasa’s attention immediately.
He looks behind me to see a pair of girls snickering. Tsukasa knows them, according to the grape vine, the short haired one has a serious crush on the science teacher. Gross.
He turns his attention away from the girls and back to Kamishiro who’s still standing up gingerly by the chalk board.
“You can sit now, kamishiro” the teacher sighs. “Thank you.” Rui mutters as he struggles to find a seat. All the seats are taken. Expect for the one next to Tsukasa. So, Kamishiro takes a seat.
Tsukasa is immediately enmoured with this being beside him. He’s… different. Not just in terms of looks, but you can really feel his energy, you know?
But Tsukasa decides it’s best to leave him alone. He seems like the loner type anyway.
He turns his attention back to the front of class, where his teacher is writting a bunch of word jumbo on the board.
“Now class, please take out your notebooks and copy down these definitions— they’re for next weeks’ test” the teacher claps his hands together then takes a seat at his desk.
Eveyone begins jotting down definitions in their notebooks. Tsukasa reaches in his bag for his pencil case. It’s not there.
He internally panics. ‘It’s not here it’s not here it’s not here!’ He begins rummaging through every pocket, zipper and sleeve. It’s not here. He must’ve forgotten it in his locker, or at worst—home. He can’t be without a pencil for today! He looks around nervously.
He’s too embarrassed to raise his hand and ask his asshole of a teacher. So he reluctantly turns around to ask his new seatmate.
“Kamishiro-san…” he whispers. To the mention of his surname, Rui perks up. He doesn’t say anything, just… stares at him. That makes Tsukasa even more embarrassed.
“Do you perhaps have a pencil I could borrow?” Tsukasa asks gingerly, a subtle blush appearing across his face.
Rui doesnt say anything. Just reaches into his pencil case and pulls out a yellow mechanical pencil. He hands it to Tsukasa without looking at him.
Tsukasa lights up, “thank you thank you!” He whisper yells and begins filling his notebook up with notes.
Again, Rui doesnt say anything. He just smiles to himself. Tsukasa doesn’t see him smile.
…
Class is over. Everyone packs up their things and group by group students filter out. Once Tsukasa is done packing up his things, he realizes he still has Rui’s pencil. He turns to give it to him and… he’s gone.
Well— he still needs it anyway. He’ll just find Rui during lunch.
