Chapter Text

Dr Michael "Robby" Robinavitch was only two hours into his shift when Dana's desk phone rang. He ignored it, tending to his paperwork on the edge of the desk.

"Mass casualty incoming," the charge nurse said, sharing an anxious glance with Robby as he looked up briefly. She listened a moment longer. "Oh, god. It's from CAPA."

Robby's full attention jumped toward the charge nurse. "Are you sure they said CAPA?"

"They're starting to send victims now; we have to clear this place out." Dana turned away and prepared to make an announcement to the ED at large.

"What's CAPA?" Med student Dennis Whitaker asked lowly. Still green, he was trying to learn without making waves.

"Pittsburgh magnet for Creative and Performing Arts," Robby explained shortly, pulling a hand down his face. "It's a school. It's kids."

It was robotic by now. They followed the protocols- everyone up or out, call back the night shifts, PPE and CPR and IVs and EZ-IOs.

"School is emailing their ID database so we can identify victims."

"We need more OPositive!"

"ORs have one more open, then we can't send any more up."

"Someone get me another bougie!"

"Three more kids on route." Dana grabbed Robby's shoulder and pulled him into the imagined privacy of the Hub. "They think one is the suspected shooter."

"Fucking hell," he growled. "Don't tell the others." Though not as large of an MCI as PittFest a few short months ago, Robby could tell the event was already taking its mental toll on the staff without possibly having to treat the person who caused all this devastation. Working on child after child will do that to a person.

Dana treated Robby to an incredulous look. "And just how do you want me to keep it quiet? There's going to be a police escort."

"Well, keep it as quiet as possible! Send some of the interns up to get more supplies, just get them out of here." Robby glanced around like any of the residents could be evesdropping right now. "The less eyes, the better."

"Unresponsive female, multiple GSWs to abdomen and legs," paramedics announced, rolling a blonde and bloodied teenager in on a gurney. It was immediately swarmed by residents taking over pressure application and respiration.

"That's Jessie's best friend," Robby breathed, drifting closer on autopilot.

"Which Jessie?" Santos asked absently.

"Found with another student administering first aid- she's coming right after in the next rig." Paramedics continued their handoff.

"I know this kid; her name is Ariel Levy, she's 18. Let's get her stabilized for surgery," Robby shook himself into action, pulling on gloves and helping to wheel the gurney into the trauma bay. "We've got one more OR, let's make sure she makes it there."

Robby was still working on stabilizing the first girl when the next was rolled in. "We got another one," new paramedics updated. "In and out of consciousness and at least one shot to the abdomen, but not as bad as it looks. She was helping others so some of this blood ain't hers."

"What's your name, kid?" Mateo was first to receive the handoff.

"Masha," the dark-haired girl whimpered, eyes fluttering shut again.

Dana quickly typed into her terminal. "No record of anyone named Masha in the school."

"Are we sure it was Masha? What about Sasha?" Mohan asked.

More keystrokes. "No Sasha either."

Robby pushed out of the trauma bay. "Ariel's headed up to the last OR." He shouldered his way through the nurses, snapping a fresh pair of gloves on. He stopped short when he saw the next victim.

"Hey kid! What's your name?" Mateo lightly slapped her face and she stirred again.

"Her name is Jessie," Robby flatly announced.

"How do you know?"

"We got a match on that- Jessie Mashenka Robi-" Dana's voice halted.

The girl's head flopped weakly to the newest arrival. "Hi, Dad."
