Work Text:
Ivan always tried out for sports teams every year since his third year of collège. It was a helpful thing to have on days when his temper was frayed, or when he was reminded of his old man.
Now, though, it was his first year of lycée, and the tryouts were going to be tougher and higher in scrutiny. If he didn’t make any teams, he’d need another outlet, and he wasn’t sure where to go for that. Wasn’t as if he could afford a gym membership…
Once Ivan arrived at the practice field, he saw Kim talking to Mylène. She looked tired from her first day of classes, and Kim evidently wasn’t helping.
“Hey, Mylène!” Ivan called, interrupting Kim. “You here to watch the tryouts?”
Mylène seemed relieved for the break. “For a little bit, yes. I’m waiting to talk with Mme. Miramond, and I have to pass some time.”
“You don’t have to do it here, if you’d rather wait somewhere else,” Ivan offered, somewhat shyly. “It’s your choice.”
“What, and miss out on me crushing tryouts?” Kim snarked.
Ivan rolled his eyes. “Kim, baseball is a team sport. If you want to win, you should stick to swimming.”
Kim laughed. “Are you trying out, tubby?”
“Hey!” Mylène butted in, cheeks puffing out adorably. “No matter what his body type is, Ivan can crush the tryouts!”
Ivan blushed humbly. He never really spent much time with Mylène back in collège, despite them sharing classrooms. Maybe he should change that this year.
Before Kim could say anything else, a coach called everyone up to begin tryouts.
Eventually, Ivan’s turn came up. Before the first pitch, he saw Mylène give him a thumbs-up from the stands. Smiling, he turned his attention back to the pitcher and smacked dinger after dinger.
