The Red Means I Love You

Summary:

Criminal minds au but there's vampires. Luckily they're very rare and the BAU does a good job at catching them, or so they think. Little do they know their old co-worker is one.

Notes:

This takes place in like season 4, timeline isn't that relevant and I suck at them.

I write a tad bit vague sorry guys

First chapter is kinda boring but it gets good trust

Chapter 1: Well You Don't Know Me, But I Know You

Chapter Text

It was already bad when he got called awake at 2 AM by Hotch. Of course it was work related, why wouldn't it be? He started getting nervous when he said at the round table and Hotch started the briefing about vampires and what is known about them, but that was true paranoia, what wasn't just paranoia was when Hotch told them about vampires that know how to mask what they are. Those words he said. "vampires who pretend to be one of us". He may not be one of them but god it still fills him with anxiety, that the second he lets his guard down they'll know that only an hour ago he was willingly sleeping next to a vampire, the very creatures that they are supposed to put away. And do what with exactly? They always just hand them over to scientists like they mean nothing. It feels so inhumane.

He's not listening anymore at this point, maybe partly. He just can't get his thoughts off of her. What if she gets caught one day? What if they find out he'd defend a vampire? Is that so wrong? Okay maybe it is wrong to be willing to defend someone who has killed over a hundred people. Still he can't help but love her.

The flight is quiet when they are all seated in the jet, it has been quiet for a long time. It feels strange but fitting. Why would they be loud and chattering when they got rung at 2 AM about blood thirsty killers. At least usually Reid would have something to rant about. Maybe the average length of vampire teeth or the statistics about vampirism in a certain group of people. Instead he's dead silent, no word, barely any movement except for the constant bouncing of his leg. Maybe it's the quite obvious anxiety coming off of him or maybe it's only autism. Either way it's getting annoying, and his silence concerning.

"Okay" Morgan finally says with barely any breath as he lets himself practically fall on the couch across from Reid. "Sooo... All three victims are completely different, the first is a caucasian woman in her 20's, the next is an asian man in his 40's and the third is a mixed woman in her 50's, obviously the UnSub doesn't care about who they kill they just kill" he doesn't look up from the case file

"Well of course, and there's the obvious overkill and copious amount of blood lost and the bite marks. That's how we know we're dealing with a vampire" Hotch adds on, accidentally sounding maybe too annoyed. But who wouldn't be when the coffee machine is broken.

"But if it's a vampire wouldn't there have been a lot more victims earlier" JJ thought aloud.

"Could be a recently turned vampire or a traveler or tourist. There's many reasons it could be." Hotch replied back.

"Whatever it is let's just get this over with quickly so we're not here any longer than we need to be" Rossi added to the conversation, not bothering to mask his irritation.

The case went smoother than expected, because the UnSub got sloppy and left a witness, so from there it was just a matter of a sketch artist and chasing down. The real issue was Reid getting so many calls the entire time. Who? What? He wasn't saying.

"The case is already over, it's just a few on the jet and then i'll be on my way, I promise, Elle"

"So you'll be here 'round 1 AM?"

"A bit after that, yeah"

"Okay, i'll see you then, bye"

"Bye, love you"

"Love you t—"

hung up.
