Summary
Oscar hasn’t felt whole since the day Lando disappeared from the track. From his life. From the future they were supposed to have.
He had been ten when Lando disappeared.
And the consequences have been far-reaching.
Because Oscar belongs to a fourth group not even considered to be human by the rest of society.
Indeterminate. No secondary animal, no secondary rank, no place in society.
The same conversation haunts him.
The words of that kindly but knowledgeable Beta doctor scream in his head. Because he had wanted the truth.
“What if he’s already dead?” Oscar never wanted to think of Lando as anything but alive.
“Then you would die too. Your… animal although asleep. Knows out there, somewhere, Lando is alive. Fated mates like young master Lando and you are. By definition, bound to die the moment the other’s heart ceases to beat.”
OR Oscar spends every waking moment haunted and driven by the desire to find Lando and be whole once more.
