1:30 AM.
That's what the time is currently. Matthew had finally finished up his long day of work of filming and recording for the comeback. He had been at the company for a meeting and was in the recording booth for hours. He just wants to go home, take a shower and finally get in bed. He also misses Gia a lot and 8 hours without seeing his baby was just too much.
Usually he isn't this busy but with the comeback preparations underway and constant daily lessons, this was the busiest schedule he’s ever had over these past years. He couldn't even do his nightly routine of playing League of Legends to wind down. He appreciated having all the work though rather than having no work but it sure does take a lot of energy out of him.
When Matthew finally reached his dorm and unlocked the front door, he noticed the hallway lights that were definitely closed when he left were open.
Did someone break in? Is it the manager? Didn't he say he was somewhere else this week? Did he forget to close them earlier?
Many questions clouded his head but he could guess the answer when he opened his shoes and noticed a pair of Crocs that were not organized properly. He softly laughed.
Of course.
Once he neatly arranged the shoes together, he checked the living room. Empty. Just a few cat toys lying around the room outside of the box it was supposed to be in and boxes of treats on the table. What a mess. He shook his head and put the toys back in the box. He thought he only had a cat but when did he get a puppy?
He moved on to check his bedroom. Sure enough, his guess was correct. Gunwook is on his bed sleeping soundly curled up into a ball clutching the huge Thewnini plushie in his arms with his lips puckered out with Gia near his legs.
He took out his phone and took a picture of how cute the sight of it is. He debated on posting it on Plus Chat but decided to keep it for himself and just sent a good night message to the fans.
Matthew tiptoed around the room quietly to prevent them from waking up since he still needed to get his stuff so he could wash up. He opened his wardrobe but it creaks just a bit too loudly. Matthew cursed this place and how old the furniture that was provided for them.
Ah shi-
“Hyungie…?” Gunwook said drowsily.
“Sorry Gunwookie, did I wake you up? Go back to sleep. I’ll join you soon, okay?” Matthew went over to him and ruffled Gunwook’s hair so he could gently lull him back to sleep.
“Mmm. Kay.” Gunwook mumbled and closed back his eyes.
Once Matthew was all washed up, he thought about opening his computer for a quick game but decided against it. He’ll save the games for tomorrow and just go to bed, he’s way too tired.
Matthew couldn't help but be endeared at the current bed situation. The Thewnini plushie has been abandoned and somehow shifted to the edge of the bed. Gunwook is now covering half the bed like he owns it, curled up into a ball with his face towards the wall. Gia is off the bed and is currently napping on the nearby cat bed Matthew had bought since there was a big puppy overtaking the actual bed at the moment.
He tried to scoot in the bed and gave Gunwook a back hug because 1. He needed the hug so this is a win and 2. He needed to shift Gunwook a bit so he could fit in the already small bed he had without fully waking him up.
Gunwook stirred and turned around to face Matthew. Gunwook wrapped his arms around him and fully caged him to get him even closer. Matthew is now lying on Gunwook’s chest while also having his own arms around Gunwook.
“I missed you, hyung,” Gunwook said in a low tone, half-asleep but awake enough.
“I missed you too.” Matthew replied. He could hear Gunwook’s heart beating on his chest.
Everyone had different schedules lately whether it's for their solo schedule or for the group. On some days, just like today, they would only see each other at home due to having clashing schedule times.
"How was the recording?"
"It was fine. Took a few tries to get it perfect but I can't wait to see how it's going to turn out. My throat kinda hurts now though.” Matthew explained. “What have you been up to today?”
“After I did my part in the recording, got back, went to the other dorm and did a quick livestream.” Gunwook continued, “Felt bored and lonely since you weren't at home at all. Me and Gia played together a lot today though… Without you.”
Matthew couldn't see his face in the dark but he knew Gunwook was sulking. Matthew huffed a small laugh ready to tease the younger. “Wow you were having fun without me~ How could you~ Maybe you two can live without me then~” Matthew teased and tapped Gunwook’s chin.
“Ah, hyung… Gia is cute but… it’s not the same since you weren't there with us,” Gunwook sulked.
“Yes, yes I know. I didn't know the schedule would finish so late. Sorry, baby.”
Gunwook tightened the hug they were in. “This is a replacement for the hours I was missing.”
“You're ridiculous~ You stay up late in the studio all the time too. Leaving me all alone delaying our nightly hug~ Hmph!” Matthew said jokingly while tightening the hug back.
“Sorry, hyung. I just want to make sure it's good, you know how I am.”
“I know, baby. You're working so hard and I’m just worried about you since you have so much on your schedule now. I'm glad you're here with me right now.”
Both of their eyes gradually got heavy as they lovingly embraced in the quiet night.
“Hyungie,” Gunwook said, breaking the silence.
“Mm?”
Gunwook shifts their position so that he could burrow his face into Matthew’s neck giving him small pecks. “Is this helping your throat a bit?”
“Mm.”
He would say yes but he's not sure if it is helping but who is he to deny some nice kisses. Especially when the younger is currently in a clingier mood than usual where he would get extra touchy. Matthew loves it when he's like this.
As much as Matthew wants to continue, he warned him to not go any further. However, Gunwook has moved on from small pecks to fully sucking on Matthew’s neck. “Wait. We really shouldn't. We have a very early schedule tomorrow.”
Before Gunwook could do anything more, Gia suddenly jumps on Gunwook’s back as if purposely attempting to stop whatever they were doing. Gunwook had to pull away so Matthew could get Gia off his back to prevent the cat from injuring himself.
“Guess the little prince woke up and wants to join in the kisses too,” Matthew joked. He sat up and rested his back against the headboard to give Gia a lot of kisses. Gunwook sat up as well and gave Gia some butt pats. The cat retaliated by whacking his tail onto Gunwook’s face.
“I swear he’s doing this on purpose. He loved me earlier,” Gunwook said, thick with disappointment due to the kiss disruption but still smiling at the situation. At least he is enjoying the view of how cute Matthew and Gia are. He decided this was the perfect opportunity to go and grab his phone nearby and sneak some pictures of the two. Another one to the collection.
“He just misses me,” Matthew giggles, giving more kisses to Gia, “Right, my cute baby boy.”
Matthew sets Gia down to his usual sleeping spot on the bed. Slightly above their heads. “C’mon, we actually do need to sleep. It's a long day tomorrow too.”
Gunwook pouts again. “Fine.”
Gunwook sneaks in a kiss on the older’s lips and they both lie back down on the bed into a comfortable position.
“Good night, Gunwookie.”
“Good night, hyungie.”
“I love you.”
“I love you too.”
All that can be heard throughout the peaceful night is the sound of their gentle breathing. Just their bodies nestled close to one another. A piece of happiness after a hectic day. Warm, comfortable, and safe.
