Dahlia Marigold—DD—froze where she stood, emerald eyes wide, limbs trembling with a mixture of fear and anticipation. The door swung open with a sharp, metallic creak, the black maw of the carriage hungrily inviting her in.
A hand shot forward, strong, inhumanly insistent. DD stumbled, almost losing her balance, her mind racing. Then, like a beacon in the chaos, Maleanor stepped forward, her tall, regal form cutting through the shadows.
