The Dance

Summary:

I wrote this when I started dating. It didn't work out and made me realise I have mad problems with rejection sensitivity...but it has settled a year on. Enough that I can look back on that experience and smile.

Work Text:

In those eyes of deepest dark,
Lives a tiny little spark,
It zips across the air between,
So fast it's movement goes unseen,
And lights the brilliance in your smile,
I feel contented for a while,
But I could fall into your arms,
Undefended 'gainst your charms,
Slip and sink or float away?
Drifting o'er your golden waves,
And then you chuckle and I grin,
As if my head begins to spin,
That rush of magic in my chest,
The feeling that just cannot rest,
We twirl and eddy, caught like leaves,
Spiral on a Summer breeze,
Nothing else around us now,
I don't know when, I don't know how,
The world has simply disappeared,
It must have happened when you neared,
I know it's fresh, I know it's new,
There's something curious 'bout you,
Comfy, cozy, I can't explain,
Like looking out at Autumn rain,
Like curling up with a cup of tea,
Like nothing to do and nowhere to be,
Like stroking a kitten asleep in your lap,
Like reading a book and taking a nap,
Despite all this I feel afraid,
And everything I say, replayed,
Inside my head I'm full of fear,
What if you don't feel this cheer?
What if you just have no spark?
While I light up, will you turn dark?
I wonder if I'll be enough,
Then give myself a small rebuff,
I know I have to take the chance,
And hope we continue to dance,
Circling round and round again,
Don't know why and don't know when,
Until the gap 'tween us can close,
Hope I will be the one you chose.
