How long was he staring at it? This red flashy neon sign he always loved. "The Hideaway". Only a sign and yet, with so many stories behind. A love story.
He shuddered.
Probably too long by his body's coldness and his hairs wet from the rain. Too long as tears had found their way once again on his cheeks.
Joshua wiped away his tears and the rain drops from his face, and with a lot efforts, headed for the door of the cafe.
As soon as he opened it, he immediately regretted his decision. The familiarity of the place, the odor of fresh baked croissants, the bustling of people. And that voice.
"Welcome!" said the owner of the place, a towel on his right shoulder, and face looking down, probably wrapping some foods.
Cidolfus Telamon.
His brother's best friend.
His ex-lover.
Cid looked up to see the new client, and opened his mouth to say something but immediately stopped.
His eyes widened as soon as he saw him. They looked at each for a moment. Pain, sadness, regret. Maybe a silent "how did we get there?".
After what felt like eternity, the older man finally nodded, looking away.
"Joshua". He smiled, but it didn't reach his eyes.
Seeing him like this was horrible. At this very moment, he missed the funny and confident Cid. Needed him to reassure him. Needed to hear one of his silly jokes.
But the reality was different.
"Cid", said Joshua, trying his best to stay neutral. His throat was so tight, it was painful. And his heart, worst.
Joshua headed towards him, took out from his pocket Cid's keys and put them on the counter.
As Cid was about to say something, Joshua left the cafe, the doorbell's entrance chiming the end of a story.
