Chapter 1. Awaken.
Feat : Dr. Mick , Angel , Cole , Tom , Noob , Sir Patrick , Savo , Kody
I am Dr. Mick,
or at least I think.
Quite frankly I have no clue as to how I came into this situation, if anything I don’t even know how long I’ve been stuck in this dark silence.
Ever since that incident at the hospital, I’ve been in a coma. All I can feel is the cold ventilation air from the hospital and the patient monitor quietly beeping as the glow from my vital spikes hit my face. It’s quite pitiful as to how I’m burdening myself and work environment. Never once have I thought the doctor would’ve been the patient.
Patients,
I recalled, I have patients.
I can’t keep waiting any longer, I have to wake up.
There’s people I need to help,
I have to wake up.
But this-
“Mick?”
I heard a voice.
A gentle voice, from which I couldn’t make out. I’ve never heard this person before, I don’t believe we’ve ever been acquainted in the slightest. Could it have been a new nurse? Doctor even? If so, why would I be hearing it now? It’s almost as if-
“Mick, are you there?”
I heard it again, there’s a ringing in my head. The voice becomes more clearer. What was once slightly muffled is now very audible, it’s almost as if I’ve-
“Mick!”
awoken.
I slowly open my eyes, what I can see in front of me looked like a figure, a woman, with yellow-blonde hair. I couldn’t really tell, after being unconscious for so long it’s quite difficult to gain my vision back clearly.
“..Excuse me..?”
I muttered, my throat was dry. My voice was low, deep and raspy. As soon as my eyes began to gain focus, I slowly gaze up at the girl who was calling me.
“Oh, you’re awake!”
Who was in front of me was a woman, with an..angel, costume..? Beside her, I could make out blurry silhouettes of others, all busy chatting amongst one another. It seems as if they’ve been here for a while, were they waiting for me?
That was one of my first thoughts, the initial one is, where am I?
“..Yes, apologies, I’ve..-“
“No worries whatsoever, I’ve got you!”
She interrupted me, not that I mind, I’m sure she had good intention behind it. If I’m quite sure, I’m almost certain she’s been the one helping the others beside her as well, there’s….two, four, ten… too many to count, I reached over to adjust on my glasses, hoping that’ll help me focus more on the situation.
“Thank you, again,” I said, I’m not one for conversations, but I’m in this unfamiliar facility, or, storage unit. I couldn’t help but feel the need to ask around.
“Pardon, but… how do you know my name..?”
I asked, I was pretty sure it was my name, I tried looking on my coat, there was no name tag in sight.
I will admit, my memory is very foggy. I couldn’t tell if it’s from the concussion I’ve gotten or if this is some odd dream.
“Well, Mick, I am an angel, I’ve observed your behavior from up above, and now, I’m here to help you out!”
I looked at her, deadpan, but, also baffled. Did she expect me to believe her? I don’t look gullible, do I? Regardless though, I’ve brushed it off.
“An…angel, yes of course…” I said with slight judgement in my voice.
She didn’t like that in the slightest.
“Well anyway.. I’m glad you’re awake, the others have gotten a bit worried since they’ve been able to adjust easily.”
I look around, now that I’ve had my glasses on, wow. There is…a lot.
“Twenty three…”
I muttered to myself as I looked around.
Some of these people, they seemed, young.. Well, the human ones at least. There’s, sort of entities and, bots..
I was then interrupted once again, this time…
“Ah, permittest thou, if the medic hath stretched his eyelids from slumber?”
By what looked to be a man in golden armor. He reminded me of the Knights of Redcliff, I.. I think I’ve read stories about them in history class back when I was still in school. I can’t recall, my memories are all jumbled up and mixed together. He looks like he’s been taken straight from the past, in those stories, the kingdom has fallen. What’s with everyone and these ridiculous costumes?
“He certainly has!”
The angelic girl answered for me, I’m shocked. Even I didn’t understand him in the slightest, it’s probably for the best.
“I shall mak ye kenne my name, forsooth. I am Sir Patrick, a knight of noble birth and goodly deeds.”
I hardly understood, but nodded anyway.
“Good day, I am…Mick, Dr. Mick.”
By the time we’ve finished our introduction, a few others had walked up.
What looked like a boy in a red cap, possibly a young adult, a…guest…? And, in addition, a noob.. I’m quite worried for them.
“Well well well, seems like the Doc’s up!”
The red cap boy slung his arm over my shoulder, I was still a bit stiff but light after being unconscious for so long, so I couldn’t help but lean forward a bit as he did so due to the sudden shift in pressure.
“Jeez, are you calling me heavy..?”
He said, sounding slightly offended,
“Oh, no no, I apologize. I’ve simply just..haven’t gotten used to this just yet.” I replied.
I felt like a feather, jello, and a rock at the same time. I’ve felt like I was in the mix of both fainting being knocked over like a domino.
“Come on, let’s give him some space! The poor soul has barely gotten up..” Said the angelic woman, I’ll be honest, I’ve kind of forgotten about her.
I turned to face the other two, the Guest, already rapidly scribbling on a notebook, while the noob fidgets beside him.
“I’m…I’m glad you’re awake.” The noob said, their voice was shaken, quite obvious from the stutter at the start of their sentence.
It’s almost a shame really. Noobs are rather naive individuals, and to see one in this odd place, when even I don’t know where we are? I can’t help but worry for them, or, pity it? I’m not sure just yet.
Before I could respond, the Guest had stopped writing, and turned his notebook.
‘Hello, I’m sorry, but I can’t talk. It’s probably obvious now. Glad you’re awake. :)’
The text was bold, I could tell his personality right away. He seemed like a lively person, I could see many individuals here admiring his company.
“I see. Hello to you too, Guest..?”
I typically wouldn’t address him by that title, but he’d never given me a name.
His smile slightly faltered, I could tell he wasn’t pleased with that. I mean, who would be? Noobs and Guests are seen as, ‘lower class.’ They all have the same name with a number that just seems like a punch to the gut, before he could write, the red cap boy mentioned.
“Yeah, I wouldn’t use that name, actually.. I’ll be real, most of ours have, forgotten ours anyway..” he said, slightly disappointed.
“I see, though, the girl had reminded me of mine, perhaps we could-“ I’ve been interrupted.
“First of all, I’m not ‘the girl!’ My name is Angel, it wouldn’t kill you to ask Mick..” She said, and to be honest I agree, I should’ve asked for it sooner.
“Secondly, my powers, seem to be limited in this place.. Even now I’ve gotten a migraine from using what I could to figure out Sir Patrick’s name, as well as your own.”
Powers..I’m starting to think she might not be so crazy after all. Again, there’s literal bots and, a knight for Telamon’s sake..
“I see… Then it’s best if we all settle before doing anything else.” I said, before glancing over at the noob, it’s clear they wanted to say something.
“We’ve..” They started off, their voice a bit slow as they continued. “We’ve asked around, no one else remembers their names either, only bits and pieces of what they were doing before…this.”
The silent after that was loud. Before anyone could say anything else the knight had spoken.
“Verily, I propose that we present ourselves unto the remnant ere we devise any course of action.”
“I agree, we should go and ask the others!” said Angel in response. It was quite hard to tell what the golden knight was saying, but it appears that at least someone understands. And I’m glad for it.
The boy in the red cap spoke up, “That’s like, a LOT of people, I’m sure I’ve been used to big crowds but, after waking up in a panic a few hours ago I think I still need a break. Pretty sure the rest need one too.”
..Hours? I’ve only just woke up a couple of minutes ago. If he’s been up a few hours ago, I wonder how long everyone else had been.
“But, I know what would get me in the right headspace!” He said as he opened his backpack, taking out a cup of coffee.
I looked in confusion, as he offered one.
“Want some? I’ve got tons for days!” He said with a light chuckle, Angel sighed, the others looked tired of it, as if he found out about his coffee supply before and didn’t let it go.
“..No thanks, despite my age, I’m much more of a tea drinker…and quite frankly, you shouldn’t be drinking that at your young age.” I said, slightly amused before he frowned, saying.
“..Whatever. Don’t tell me what I can and can’t drink.”
He sounded hostile, no, offended.
If anything, the sound of the other people chatting because more distinguished after that. So clear I could hear the boy with a traffic cone on his head complain to the random blue-clothed man. Point is, it was clear he didn’t like that. I suppose it’s a touchy subject, or he just doesn’t like being told what to do.
Before I could apologize, a timer showing 15 seconds appeared up above on a big screen.
Cards appeared in front of us, the collected gasps of the others around us was loud as they started reading theirs.
I looked at mine, glancing at it.
‘Mick.’
It said, I look at the group that had been with me, some happy, some confused.
The red cap boy said, “Cole..Brew, that’s my name!” His earlier irritation forgotten and replaced with a proud expression.
“Noob…abilities, beginner’s luck..?” They read off the card.
The Guest read, Guest 416. His frown now more obvious as the red cap boy then slung his arm over his shoulder instead.
“Don’t worry, you can pick a new name! Don’t gotta go off of what the card says!” He said, the Noob nodding right after him as Angel showed a pleased nod as well.
Before I could read mine thoroughly, Sir Patrick stated..
“Hark, what hour doth come!” He said as we all looked confused then at the timer.
5 seconds, for what? Before I could ask Angel what she thought, the time ticked.
