Work Text:
Tenya Iida loves his wife, but she’s insane when she’s working. And yet…he wouldn’t change her for the world. He loves Mei Hatsume. His wife. His everything.
He left his agency, Team Idaten, early that day so that he can surprise Mei. It was Valentine’s Day after all, and he wanted to be romantic. Hopefully his present will make her happy and smile, which is all he could ever want.

Tenya stands at the front desk of “Lightly Labs” Mei’s amazing creation, “Hello, Grace. Where’s Hatsume? Do I need a special pass or something?”
“She’s downstairs, training and showing the ropes to the new interns.” The receptionist, a sweet girl named Grace that Mei sort of kind of kidnapped, says. She takes a pause, “I’m sure Boss will love the surprise, Mr.Iida,” He smiles, “Let’s hope so, young lady. Have a good day,” he says with a wave of his hand.
He knows his way around the building, after all this is where their loved bloomed.
He comes down to see Mei running around with interns trying to keep up, as she shows them all the machinery and inventions.
“My babies!” He hears his wife yells, “Pretty soon you guys will have babies too!”
He stands to the side making sure he’s in no one’s way, As he watched Mei do her magic. The box he’s holding suddenly feels heavy, “what if she doesn’t like it?” He tries to dismiss his thoughts, saying to himself, “That’s nonsense, you know what she loves. And she’ll love this too.” His wife’s pink hair in a high ponytail flies behind her as a blur, as she moves from place to place. He can hear her loud bright voice from across the room, “Okay, you guys will have a great time! You and you,” she says pointing at different interns, “will go to the defense area, where we help hero’s with support items, that’s at the far left,” she points at another group of people, “You’ll go to the surveillance wing, which on the other side of that hall,” she turns to the remaining, “And you guys…will work on the amplifying support items!!” All the interns stand there, “C’mon, chop chop! Make your babies!!” Mei says with a large smile. The interns scatter to their intended places, leaving a giddy Mei behind. She looks so beautiful, Tenya thinks to himself. Her glowing eyes, shimmering with thoughts and passion. Her explosive hair, barely contained by her hair tie. Her teal goggles, positioned over her head. She turns around, her eyes locking with Tenya’s. And he feels…at home.

Mei turns…and sees her husband? What is he doing here, isn’t he working? Her smile deepens, “He left his work, for me?!”
She runs over to him, “Hello!!” Her tall typically serious husband, seems…unusually nervous? Or maybe flustered? “Are you okay? Are your engines hurt? Do you need the nurse here?” She says as she lowers herself to look at his legs.
“Oh—no, I’m okay, Mei.”
She stands up, “Oh thank god!” She pauses, “Why are you here then? Do you want to see my babies?!”
He looks down, is a blush forming on his face? “I got you something,” he says quietly as he pulls out a box from his jacket pocket. She gasps, “I didn’t get you anything for Valentine’s Day!! I’m sor—“
“No, you’re perfectly okay. I just wanted to get you something,”
She smiles, her eyes gleaming with joy, “Can I open it?”
“Yes.” He hands her the black box, its only decoration a pink bow on the outside. She quickly opens it, with a speed even Tenya couldn’t muster.
Brown gloves, with heat repellent material. That’s thin enough to give her plenty of mobility. They have straps attached along the edges that could be used to hold things up, along with slim pockets. The red accents along with the brown make the gloves glow with status. Mei puts on the gloves immediately, flexing her fingers to get used to the new feeling. They’re really nice. They’re amazing. She turns to see her palms and her frantically giddy movements pause. She freezes.
Small fingerprints? In a heart shape. The heart on her left palm is teal and the other is pink. “The designs are Liam’s fingerprints on the left and Mia’s on the right,” Tenya says, breaking the rare silence. Their kids’ fingerprints as hearts. Her angels. With her at all times. She smiles, a softer smile, and pulls the gloves to her chest, “I love them,” she says quietly.
Tenya smiles back, his wife’s joy spreading to him, “I’m glad,”
She pulls the box from him and carefully puts the gloves back, “I’ll put them in my office. And…then…we’ll…we—“ she says with an odd face, as if she’s trying to raise her eyebrow or perhaps smirk?
Tenya raises his brows, “Are you trying to ask what we’ll do after?” He says with a small laugh.
“I didn’t say anything! We? We’ll spend the rest of the day together? If you say so! Let me put it away first, then we’ll go,” she says as she scurries away to her office. Tenya follows her, the love of his life.
He leans against the doorframe, looking at his beautiful wife. “I love you,” he says without thinking, he says it all the time. Not as reassurance, though, just…for her to hear.
She blushes, “Aww, I love you too,”
She grabs his face gently and kisses him, “Thank you for the present,”
“Of course. I’m glad you like it,”
“Noooow, what’s the rest of your Valentines-day-itinerary, dear husband?” She says as she grabs his arm.
“I was thinking dinner before we grab the kids from day-care.”
“That sounds wonderful.”
