Chapter Text
Frisk laid on their bed, pretending to be asleep as the room to their door made a silent creak. They had their bangs in front of their eyes, one eye opening slightly to inspect whoever came into their room.
The lights were turned off, making the figure harder to spot as they began walking towards their bed, looming over the carpet as they stood on the window's right.
A silvery streak of moonlight streamed between the curtains, illuminating the figure's face. It was Toriel, with a big plate in hand. One that held a large slice of pie.
It emitted a beautiful smell, one that Frisk was familiar with—butterschotch and cinnamon. The delicious desert Toriel cooked for them in the beginning of their journey.
They watched as Toriel bent down to gently put it on the ground, gingerly walking back towards the door.
The pie might have gotten cold under the conditions humans were used to, but since magic was involved in Toriel's cooking, Frisk was certain it would be the perfect temperature hours after being placed in the open.
Careful not to "wake" the human up, Toriel then proceeded to gently close the door behind her.
Frisk didn't move until her footsteps faded away, then supported themself up into a sitting position. Brushing their bangs away from their face, they couldn't help but steal a glance at the pie sitting across the room.
It took a good bit of willpower for them to not take a bite, but Frisk persisted. They wouldn't want anyone to randomly come into their room before morning and find out they'd been up late at night.
Not that the house had that many residents to begin with. It was only Frisk and Toriel. They lived in a smaller house down Mount Ebott now, one that looked more like a modern cabin than a regular building, amongst other Monsters who moved in after the barrier was shattered.
This included all of Frisk's friends, which meant most of them were a quick walk across the village they had built (Asgore, being resourceful as always chose to call it the "Ebott village"), spare for the ones that were still getting accustomed to the new living space (Such as Alphys, who had been moving documentation files from her lab she found necessary to keep, much to Undyne's demise, who she was sharing their cabin with. The space was, from what Frisk heard, bursting with Alphys' "sciencey stuff" ever since Undyne agreed to bring them there, in her words. It was rather cute to witness their conflicts, as it was obvious they couldn't be mad at each other for longer than an hour).
Frisk had agreed to be the ambassador for Monsterkind, which they knew was a great responsibility yet had taken it without hesitation. It took 2 entire weeks of visits to governmental buildings with Toriel, aka the former Queen, and Asgore, the King of the Underground, just to make their settlement official. The two's past was not helping either, Toriel refusing to speak to Asgore unless necessary. Each of his occasional glances were met by a piercing glare, which were more than effective for Asgore to keep quiet whenever the two (or three, most of the time) were alone.
Even with all those meetings, there were still plenty of adjustments which were still in the works. Laws protecting Monster rights were to be implemented, proper reintroductions to humans were yet to be made and hundreds of pages of contracts Frisk couldn't even understand needed to be signed. They had felt responsible to read what looked most crucial, starting from the integration of Monster and Humankind to Monsters' role in economy related activities. It was, as what any other 11 year old would think, overwhelmingly complicated. Needless to say Frisk was lucky to have Toriel (and Asgore too, of course!) to guide them in taking part in engagements requiring the ambassador's involvement.
So much has happened after their fight with Asriel, all at once, yet now things seemed to be calming down a little bit. Frisk liked it at first, as it gave them time to process everything, but now they weren't quite sure what else they could do to help besides the formal work they attended with Toriel.
They paid a couple visits to the Underground since then, watching as the grounds cleared, and talked to the locals. Even raced snails with MK (short for Monster Kid, which Frisk thought was pretty cool), whose family hadn't moved out just yet. Napstablook had allowed them to play as many rounds as they wanted for free, until the snails could be escorted outside the mountain.
Frisk had spoken to the shopkeeper in Snowdin, Gerson and Burgerpants (as much as he hated being called that, Frisk kept forgetting to ask his name...). Hearing from them made Frisk feel better.
They even saw (and pet) the Temmies and were more than happy to linger a while to witness their shenanigans. It reminded them of how Greater played cards with himself (and somehow lost for a long time). Greater and Lesser were responsible for providing security for the brand new Ebott village now, following Undyne's orders along with all the other guards.
All of this filled Frisk with hope. Everyone else seemed to agree.
Then they wondered how Asriel was doing, but were also reluctant to go deeper in the Ruins. They had one last talk the last time Frisk went back to the Ruins, right next to the flower patch they fell on. He had asked them not to talk to him after he transformed, the one thing they would soon turn back into. Frisk had promised not to go back back then, but a part of them was still curious how Flowey was doing now. They would have offered him to come along if they weren't unsure of how Flowey would react to an encounter.
They wondered if the Humans and Monsters thing could work.
There were so many uncertainties, combined with the questions Frisk had, it was quite hard to fall asleep quickly.
Even then though, the future awaited them. All of these people. Full of surprises, full of hope, and Frisk was more than excited to make this peace thing work.
It filled them with determination.
