Summary:

“Y’know what? I’ve got a fun idea.”

“And what could that be?” Elkman idly asked, pondering in thought at the chessboard.

“I drag the sinner in here and—”

“No.” Litany rejected, their head turned towards Mime at an angle only an owl can manage, “I don’t think he’d appreciate being in a room full of entities that torment him on a daily basis.”

Chapter 1: entrance

Chapter Text

The rest of the entities sat around in the breakroom, a secret, underground space beneath the brick maze destined just for them to relax whenever the sinner wasn't currently in a run. How convenient for them to socialize!

KooKoo, Dozer, and Litany were currently playing a card game, as to what card game it was? Well, we don't know.

"UNO!" KooKoo called out, slapping an Ace down on the center of the table.

"We aren't playing UNO." Litany gently reminded, watching the escapist’s face fade from joy into pure irritation.

"Ughhh, can't we just play UNO instead of Solitaire? It's easier!"

Dozer hummed in amusement, "You won 3 times in a row last time. So no."

"Just because I'm good with numbers doesn't mean I'm cheating." KooKoo huffed, crossing his arms. The ticking emanating from the clock on their hat juddering as if irritated.

"Well, we're tired of losing, and none of us know how to play Solitaire, so we're on equal playing fields this time." Litany placed a card down on their deck, which appeared to be a Joker.

Mime groaned from across the room, leaning back on the couch with his face in his hands, as he begrudgingly watched his fellow sins of lust play Chess. "Can we go back to Snakes and Ladders pleaaase...?"

Elkman shook his head, keeping his gaze focused on the board, "No, too many rules."

"This is CHESS! Chess has, like, millions of rules!" Mime complained, his eyes indignantly drifting across each chess piece on the board.

"You're not even playing, Mime. Chess is a two-player game.." Drain replied as it scrutinized the positions of its pieces, before moving the bishop three spaces to its diagonal right.

"Still doesn't change the fact that it's so boooring..." Mime whined, dramatically slouching over the couch as he thought about what could be more fun to do.

“Aw, c’mon! This is practically like one of those saferooms, isn’t it? And absolutely NONE of us are planning to kill him right now!” Mime assured the coercer, fully confident and practically desperate to get some form of entertainment in here.

“I don’t think he knows that,” Litany sighed, turning back to her card game, “You’d have to truly convince him in order for him to step inside.”

“I meannn…” KooKoo shrugged, not seeming opposed to the idea, “We can be real convincing, can’t we?”

“I do suppose you’re right there.” Dozer hummed in amusement, placing down a King, “Well then, someone go get him. I'm sure we all wouldn't mind...”

Mime raised his hand almost immediately, “I definitely can!! I know where he usually lurks around between runs anyway.”

“Do you spy on him or something?” Elkman questioned with a raised eyebrow.

“Wh—Of course not! I just happened to stumble through some cracks in the walls to find.. what I believe the Boss calls… The Lobby.”

Some of the other entities perked up at the mention of the new area, curious.

“Could.. Could we... get in there?” Slight inquired quietly, fidgeting with their fingers.

“As far as I know, friend, I don’t think we can.” Mime scratched the back of his neck with a nervous laugh, “I’ve tried! And, well, it appears that God had put a barrier, blocking us from entering it.”

Heed let out a sigh, just as expected, “Fair enough, I’m sure He doesn’t want us messing with His follower on off-hours.”

“Then.. how are you going to convince him if you can’t even get close to his proximity?” Litany asked, tilting her head in bewilderment at Mime’s supposed plan.

“Do not fret just yet! There’s still an outer spot I can reach, I’ll just try to grab his attention from afar!” Mime affirmed, still seeming confident, “Well then, off I go!” He stands up from his spot on the couch and heads out of the break room.

Some entities gaze towards his departure in slight hope and anxiety.

“I hope he knows what he’s doing…” Ire crossed her arms, whilst Rue fiddled nervously with their chains.

.

.

.

“Whew..” Mime wiped a sweat off his non-existent forehead after finally getting to the ‘outer spot’, pressing his face against the invisible barrier to scope out where the sinner could be.

Aaaand.. there he was, in all his glory! The sinner!

John just happened to be heading out of H. Skel’s shop, tinkering with the new traits he got, unaware of the presence of a certain entity within the lobby.

Mime mimicked a megaphone with his hands and began shouting the loudest he could in his staticky voice to try and catch his attention.

“JOHNNYYY!!!!”

The sinner blinked, startled by the sudden calling of his name. His wide eyes began darting around the place, searching for the location of that voice, was that Mime? It seemed glitchy enough to be him.

“OVER HERE!!!”

His gaze finally landed on the entity, the sight of him waving his hands around to catch his eye was more endearing than it should’ve been, and he couldn’t help but stifle a chuckle as he ran over there.

“Mime? What’re you doing here?” John asked, tilting his head to the side as he finally scrutinized the autoerotist’s position, encaged into the brick walls with only some cracks making him visible.

“I’ve come to invite you into what we sins call.. ‘The Breakroom’! Where we usually rest when YOU’RE not in a run!” Mime phrased as if it was some grand invitation into a royal ball.

John’s pupils shrunk at the offer, clearly tense at the thought of being in the same space as them, “I—'The Breakroom'? Are you sure? Did the rest of you agree to this?”

“Most of us definitely did! And I promise you, darling, none of us will lay a single hand on you!” Mime laughed heartily, before his face scrunched for a moment in doubt, “Well, ah, I can make sure of that at least!”

John fidgeted with his hands slightly, still nervous, it seemed, but he didn’t want to see that eternally happy smile on Mime’s face disappear, “I.. I guess I could visit? Just for a little while, maybe. As long as none of them try anything.”

Mime gasps and celebrates, utterly overjoyed that his plan WORKED!

“Hooray! Alright, alright, my dear sinner! All you have to do is clip into this brick wall, and I’ll take you there!”

The sinner blinks in realization, letting out a sigh, “Oh, uh, yeah.. I forgot about that part. About you being in the wall. Give me a second, I’ll figure it out.”

Mime nods anyway, still very happy that he managed to convince John himself! He was totally going to brag about this to the others when they got back. Dozer would be sooo pissed.

“No worries, Johnny! I’ll stay right here to keep you company!”

John snorts, slowly stepping back from the brick wall, “Good to hear.” He decides to try testing out if he could slide or trimp into it first. This might take a while.
