Chapter Text
Two years. It’s been two years since Jax and Ribbit got together, and by god if it wasn’t the best two years of Jax’s life. Adventures were more fun, days were brighter, life felt a little less heavy with Ribbit by his side.
Right now, the two lay in Ribbit’s room, snuggling in bed. Jax was big spoon, Ribbit was the little spoon. He tightened his grip on her slightly, just thankful that she was here beside him.
Her room was interesting. Instead of being filled with self hatred analogies, hers was decorated with her hyper fixation, reptiles. Her bed spread had frogs on it, the lamp on her green nightstand had a lizard pattern, and there were multiple reptile plushies strewn about, her favorite being the large Komodo dragon plushie that sat in the corner of the room.
He’d seen this room a hundred times, and if it ment he’d be able to stay by her side, he’d see it a hundred more.
Ribbit put a hand on his arm.
“…hey, bun?” She asked quietly.
“What’s going on, ribs?” Jax asked back.
Ribbit paused for a second, taking large consideration in what she was going to say next.
“…this is, gonna sound like a huge ask, but…”
Her grip tightened on his arm as she gathered the confidence to speak.
“do you think… do you think we could maybe get married, when we finally get out of here?”
Jax paused, not completely believing his own ears. Did she just ask to get married?
“…Ae- are you serious?” He asked, shocked.
“I-I know it’s sudden and i completely understand if you say no,” Ribbit said, trying to brush it off.
“I mean, you don’t know what I look like, you don’t even know my name! how could you want to marry me? I just-“
“Ribbit, I don’t need to,” Jax muttered.
“…what?”
“Ribs…” He said, propping himself up on his elbow so she could look at him.
“I don’t care what you look like. You’ve brightened up my days in ways I didn’t even think possible before I got here. You’ve shown me that everything can be, wonderful, if you just look at it the right way. And- hell you don’t even know what I look like and you wanna marry me. Of course I wanna marry you.”
Ribbit just stared at him for a second, before tears filled her eyes.
“Pft- you idiot, you’re getting all sappy.”
“Hey, I’m your idiot, ribs,” Jax replied as he lad back down and put his arms back around her, nuzzling his head into her neck.
“And besides, you already made us matching rings. So we’re technically engaged.”
He looked at his gloved hand that held the silver ring with a green frog on it, the one Ribbit had given him the day they’d spent the day together in a ski lodge, the day Jax really knew the feelings were mutual.
“Yeah, I guess you do have a point,” Ribbit admitted.
“…hey, ribs,” Jax asked.
“What do you think my name would be? Y’know, in the real world?”
Ribbit thought over it for a while.
“…you definitely feel like you’d be one of those people with a colored last name,” she said.
“Like green or white or something. Your first name would probably be something like Liam.”
“Wow, ok,” Jax said.
“I think you’d definitely be a Becky, or a Rebecca.”
“Heh, I guess we’d be Liam and Rebecca green then, right?” Ribbit joked.
They laid there in comfortable silence for a bit, happily snuggling.
“…I bet you’d look wonderful in white, ribs,” Jax said.
“And I think you’d look amazing in black,” Ribbit responded.
