A mushroom raising a peach.

Summary:

after watching the Mario movie I realised that all we really know about game peach was raised by Toadsworth so I'm gonna make a miniature origin story for her while also showing what it was like raising her.

Chapter 1: meeting

Chapter Text

Meeting

Toadsworth was a spry young toad enjoying a nice night stroll when he heard a strange bird cry, he went to quickly see what the source of the cry was when he saw an injured bird who was keeping its wings wrapped around a bundle of cloth. “Oh my you poor thing, let me see if I could help you.” Toadsworth said as he slowly approached the bird, said bird cawed weakly as if satisfied and then collapsed. Toadsworth quickly checked on it only to find the poor thing had died. “Oh poor thing, what could have happened to you?” Toadsworth said as he turned to walk away unable to help the bird when he heard something crying, he quickly went to the source of the crying and saw it was coming from the bundle of cloth, he unwrapped it to see a baby human crying. “What the!?” Toadsworth exclaimed, shocked as the baby continued to cry he gently picked it up and rocked them back and forth. “There there, it’s ok it’s ok.” He said awkwardly as he rocked the baby back and forth, he had never taken care of a child before so he had no idea what to do, then it hit him. “The meeting I have, they should be able to help.” Toadsworth said as he then started making his way there.

A group of toads each with a different colored cap were waiting in the castle around a table, with twelve chairs, two were empty however one was a simple chair that was like all the others while the other was more heavily decorated with a slightly higher seating. “Since Toadsworth is running late I vote we start without him.” Said a toad with a yellow cap gold stars and a large thick monocle that blocked one of his eyes, the others started raising their hands when Toadsworth suddenly burst in with the now sleeping baby wrapped up in a cloth. “Toadsworth where have you been!?” The yellow toad screamed out. “Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!!” the baby Toadsworth was carrying screamed out. “What is that infernal racket?” A blue toad with white stripes wearing a doctor's outfit and a surgical mask said annoyed, an elderly toad with a purple cap with white spots that had extra spores growing from her head in the form of a pony tail got up and headed for Toadsworth. “You idiot, it's a baby!” She then gently took the child from Toadsworth and gently rocked her back and forth while looking them over. “I know what a baby is Gondwana. What I'm wondering is why there is one here.” The blue toad said annoyed. “Amanita has a point where did you find them?” Reishi asked. “I found them near an injured bird, wrapped in cloth.” Toadsworth said.

Amanita was shocked and ran over to the baby looking them over as Gondwana continued to rock them. A grey capped toad with black and white marks shaped like the sun and moon also got up. “What’s the matter, master Kyrun?” A young toad with a white cap with green spots asked. “If that bird was a stork then this child might hold power, Storks are charged with helping newborns with power reach homes where they will be safe.” Kyrun explained as Amanita continued to examine the baby. “It’s a human girl from the looks of it.” he said, turning back to the others. “A human we can’t have a human in the castle!” Reishi screamed out enraged as he got up from his seat. “Now Reishi I know you have your issues from the last war but it is over and we have to focus on peace.” A pink toad with an eyepatch said, scolding him, they then turned to the baby. “But what should we do about this baby? The orphanages are too crowded to host any new additions.” The pink toad said, concerned. “We could make her a ward of the castle.” An old toad with a black cap and grey marks in the form of a smiling face said as he looked at the baby. “My twin is right the castle has more than enough supplies to do not to mention that not only will this be a show of good fate for us but if this child does contain some power then keeping an eye on her is for the best.” A toad with a white cap and grey marks in the shape of a frowning face said.

“Then let's put it to a vote all in favor of making this girl a ward of the castle?” Toadsworth asked, all except two of them raised their hands. “It has been decided she will remain here.” A toad with an orange cap and yellow flower marks said. “Only one problem, she needs a caretaker.” A toad with a red cap and white spots said which the others then realised was true. “If that’s the case then I suggest Toadsworth, all in favor.” The pink one said, everyone raised their hands except Toadsworth who was shocked. “Me? Are you sure that’s the best idea, Junlung?” Toadsworth said shocked as he looked at the pink toad. “Of course, you're the one who found her, a portion of us can’t due to already supporting families or have no idea how to raise a child but we know that you used to work as a caretaker.” Junlung explained as Toadsworth was handed back the sleeping Peach.

“Now to get back on track, we have a major discussion to begin with. As tradition dicktakes I’ll start this story from the beginning to remind some of you and fill in the new member. Our ruler king toadstool was assassinated with false evidence left behind, this led to a war that devastated our kingdom, we are currently in an age of recovery but the throne remains empty.
Has anyone found a suitable replacement?" Reishi asked, but he got no answer. “We can’t just put someone on the throne because we like them, they have to earn a vote from each council member while also displaying bravery, kindness, empathy and other such virtues. If we don’t then who knows what will become of our kingdom.” Kyrun stated. “Even then we are at a disadvantage as long as no official leader isn't on that throne!” The red toad called out. “That’s one of the reasons we have a council. With time we’ll be able to find a new ruler but until then we’ll have to put up with the extra work.” Saysa pointed out. “If no one has anything else to say or report, speak now…” Amanita said out loud only to be meet by silence. “Then meeting adjourned.” Everyone left and Toadsworth was left alone with a baby. “Well then, how hard could this be?”
