Work Text:
Everything is going great. You've defeated Ganondorf. You married the princess and are now king. Hyrule is safe and protected. No enemies are at the border. You are looking forward to raising a family with your new queen.
And then some kid shows up holding a club that would have been very useful in some of the dungeons you've been in, claiming he's there to lock the door against the Heartless. You have no idea what this "Sora" kid is on about. You show him all the hearts you've collected. Nobody in the kingdom could possibly be heartless. He assures you something is here.
You show him. Dungeon by dungeon, there is nothing. The dudongo are peacefully eating their rocks. Jabu-Jabu is at peace. The temples are all alight with servants and acolytes tending the sacred places.
You lead him back towards your home. He is satisfied. He will leave. You thank him. In the middle of the town square, your people gather to see him off. Everyone is there.
Almost everyone.
There is a disturbance on one of the artisan's streets. You can see the smoke. You rush there with Sora hot on your heels.
There is no market left. There is only ruin.
Where a kiln once fired clay into useful things, a pot. It's two stories tall. It sees you. You don't know how it sees you.
It is angry.
Angry at you.
Sora says he told you so.
You draw your sword on your greatest foe.
