Chapter Text
Sunday, December 19, 1999: 7:40 a.m.
Cold, gloomy, and empty. That was how the Lafayette Residence was feeling at the moment. Luggages crowded the front door, majority of it being Genevieve’s own. She was excited to finally see her Uncle Hyunwoo after what felt like ages ago. She could finally ramble about her guilty pleasure (rock music) to him and maybe he can teach her how to surf too.
Luka on the other hand, wasn’t all that excited for a multitude of reasons, and one of them was having to see Hyunwoo. The other reason was that he’s paler than a slice of bread, and he turns into a can of Campbell’s tomato soup once he spends 20 minutes outside in the blazing hot sun.
“Alright guys are you ready? I’m not turning back once we leave this penthouse. You know how crowded La Guardia gets…” Hyuna’s heels clicked across the tiled floor, staring at her Rolex watch.
“Jenny what the hell are you wearing…” Hyuna looked up to see what Genevieve was wearing, which was definitely not appropriate for the weather.
”Mom, we’re literally going to Hawaii, I’m dressed for the weather!” Genevieve was wearing a generic Hawaiian print shirt with flared jeans from Roxy and some platform sandals. If that meant she was going to freeze to death so be it, at least she’d die in style.
”No you’re not. Put that shirt and sandals in your father’s luggage and go change.”
”But mooom~”
”Now.”
Hyuna ordered Genevieve to change into something more winter friendly, to which she had to comply to. So she stormed up the stairs to her room, slammed the door, and scrambles through her room to find something.
”Baby, you don’t seem all that excited. What’s wrong?” Hyuna’s focus now shifted towards Luka, voice now becoming more gentler. Luka was just spacing out, arms crossed, but the thought of having to spend two weeks in the blazing hot sun with a brother in law that he despises kept lingering in his mind.
“Hm? Oh nothing.” Luka then lifted his head and softly smiled at Hyuna, trying to reassure her.
”Look I know this is about my brother. But please, just this once. Be nice to him.” Hyuna tilted her head and sighed. Luka still clung onto Hyunwoo’s first impression of him that happened in ‘87, and the comment about their daughter when she was still a newborn back in the fall of ‘89.
“Moom I’m done!” Genevieve was now in a winter ready outfit, but she still wore her Roxy jeans. She held her Hawaiian printed shirt on one hand and her sandals on the other.
“Much better. Just shove them in your dad’s luggage then we’re set.” Hyuna finally approved of Genevieve’s outfit, and Genevieve forcefully opened Luka’s luggage and stuffed her shirt and sandals inside, hoping it would close.
Lobby: 7:50 a.m.:
”Ah, Bonjour! Family vacation eh? Where to?” It was Ms. Desjardins, the receptionist of the apartments.
“HAWAII!” Genevieve yelled out while Luka and Hyuna silently greeted her.
“My my that seems fun! Hope you enjoy!”
Just like that, Ms. Desjardins waved them goodbye, and went back to doing her job.

”Alright, we need a taxi. I don’t know where on Earth we can get a big one but we can just try.” Hyuna crossed her arms, muttering to herself. It was cloudy and snowy, and Frank Sinatra Christmas songs could be heard from miles away.
”Mom, we’re not poor remember? We can just get someone to drive us.” Genevieve had to remind her about the privilege that they had. They were A-list actors after all.
”Oh wait you’re right, thank you baby!”
La Guardia Airport: 8:30 a.m.:
After finally calling someone to drive them to the airport, which was pretty difficult, they finally managed to get one and drive to the airport. Like the usual, they checked their bags in and went to the designated lounge, which was obviously the first class lounge, to wait.
”Still sulking hm?” Hyuna turned to Luka who was slouched in his seat, spacing out, brows furrowed, like the usual.
”Hm? No no I’m fine.” Again, the thought of Hyunwoo kept replaying in his mind constantly. He just didn’t want to tell his wife so she wouldn’t feel bad.
“Alright then. We’ll see when we get to LA…” Hyuna sighed and relaxed in her seat, picking up a magazine to read.
“Dad, I’m hungry~” Genevieve started whining, tugging Luka’s coat sleeve. Luka didn’t want to walk around to find the nearest Starbucks and get a treat from there, so he pointed to the bag on top of Hyuna’s luggage, where all the snacks were stored.
“Thanks I guess…” Genevieve’s attempt on getting Starbucks and coffee failed, and she rummaged her hand through the bag.
”Passengers of flight 822 going from La Guardia to LAX please start boarding. I repeat, passengers of flight 822 going from La Guardia to LAX please start boarding.” A voice was announced through the speakers.
”Well, looks like that’s us, let’s go.” Hyuna put the magazine down and stood up, taking her luggage with her. Luka and Genevieve followed behind her. All Luka could do was think about Hyunwoo and how he had to meet him face to face as soon as they touch down in Los Angeles.
