Don’t you dare

Summary:

Guys from Lonesome flats teach 19 year old John their traditions of country folks.

Notes:

I am not from an English speaking country so there might be some mistakes, sorry for that

Mostly in Slavic countries we have this tradition where boys on Easter come from house to house and pour water on girls, it’s more common in villages but it happens in every household. Then boys ‘gently’ whip girls with a willow whip and they spray them with their perfume and call it a day. Girls give boys money or chocolates for it so it’s kind of unfair T-T. They say that it’s done so the girls will be healthy all year long. It happens on Easter Monday (so the day I am posting this). So I got an idea where I make this a tradition for country trolls too.

Work Text:

It was beautiful day, the sun was shining and the warmth of the sun was making everything even better. Winter was warm here in Lonesome Flats, John wasn’t surprised by this fact, they were in a middle of desert.

This was his first almost full year in Flats and a lot has changed, he started dressing more country-style with button down shirts and tailor made pants, made just for him. Country trolls loved him and he actually didn’t know why, maybe because of the fact he was dating their soon to be a queen? or because he helped around? He had no idea.

John was just sipping his coffee, thinking what he’ll do today when a knock was heard on Rhondas door. He wasn’t expecting any visitors today but maybe it was Delta? He shrugged, placed his coffee on a nearby table and went to open the door. He was met with a group of his friends, a five trolls around his age. They had buckets, perfumes and some weird twigs in their hands.

“Hey guys” He greeted with a smile on his face as he walked to them. “Did something happen or?”

“Hey man, you know what day it is?” Jacob asked devious smirk on his face.

“Monday?” John replied confused at what this guys were initiating.

“Man it’s Easter Monday.” William replied his face showing a bit of confusion

“I don’t get what you’re applying.” He raised an eyebrow at them as their faces fell.

“You are telling me that you pop trolls don’t pour water on girls your age on this day?” Wayne asked now in a ’are you serious tone’.

Johns eyes widened the moment he heard that. “What?! You’re telling me that you go and pour water on girls?”

“You’re telling us that you don’t?” Charles and the others blurted out, totally confused and in disbelief.

“No?”

“We need to fix that, go grab your cologne.” Kit told him and John disappeared back into Rhonda.

“But why?!” John asked confused as he came back.

William grabbed him by the shoulder. “Man look, do you live with us in Lonesome Flats?” He questioned and pulled him forward to the direction of the first house.

“Well yeah but-“

“No buts” Jacob pushed a bucket in his hands. “you are going with us.”

“We will teach you everything you need to know so shut up and come with us.” Wayne said as they started walking, leaving no space for him to backup.

“But why does this tradition even exist?” John asked as they walked.

“Well when you do this the girls stay healthy for all year round.”

“That’s bullshit.”

“Yeah but it’s fun.”

“Don’t forget to tell him about the money part.” Kit chuckled at the confused expression John gave him.

“Oh yeah and you get money for it too.”Charles laughed.

“Wait so you go around dumping buckets of water on girls and you get money for it? What about the cologne you asked me to bring?” He asked in disbelief.

“Well firstly you dump a bucket full of water on them, then you whip the girls with this” William pointed at the twigs Kit was holding “it’s called a willow whip, and spray them with cologne.” He explained, as John somehow looked even more confused and everyone else laughed.

“How was this tradition even created?” John was horrified and was trying to wrap his head around the new information.

“I have no idea” Jacob confessed with a laugh.

“Come on there is the first house!” Wayne pointed as they laughed.

Wayne and Jacob got up on the porch and knocked on the door, suddenly a man opened the door. For Johns surprise when he saw them, the man smiled deviously in understanding.

“Give me a second.” The man replied as he went back into the house. After a while a girl, John recognised her as Kits classmate, came into the door, when she saw them she quickly turned on her heels ready to run but she was met with her father blocking the way.

Suddenly the boys who stood next to the door grabbed her by her arms and started pulling her towards the group. The moment they let her go, Charles dumped the whole bucket at her, then Kit whipped her ass lightly while saying some rhymes. William then let go of John and grabbed his perfume, spritzing the girl a little.

“I hate you guys.” The girl replied jokingly smiling little bit as she gave few bucks to one of the boys. Her father started laughing so hard that his eyes teared up a bit.

“John you okay?” Charles laughed seeing his horrified face.

“You guys are crazy.” John stood there shocked as everyone laughed.

“Okay I have to say that this is actually pretty fun.” John confessed. They had just few houses left, now they were walking towards another one.

“I knew you had it in you!” William punched his shoulder playfully. “The next one’s yours.”

“Okay, that’ll be interesting” John grinned.

“Will, you gave him a good one, look whose house is that” Charles smirked as Wayne laughed.

When John looked towards the next house he stopped dead in his tracks but William pushed him forward again.

“I’ll just say that Delta hates this tradition and she doesn’t trust even her own father, so good luck.” Kit said as Charles punched his shoulder so he would stop scaring him.

“John your girlfriend is waiting.” Jacob teased as others at least tried to hold their laugher.

“You are unbelievable guys.” John excepted his fate went up onto porch of the sheriff’s house, took a deep breath and knocked of the door.

To his surprise Delta Dawn herself opened the door but the moment she saw him and others behind him she let out a little “no” and ran back inside instantly, leaving the door opened a bit. Deltas father peaked outside wanting to know what’s happening.

“Hello sir.” John greeted a bit nervous, as silence hung in the air.

The mayor saw John and the boys, who were all holding their laugher behind him waiting, and he looked back at where Delta was, seeing she ran into her room.

He looked back at John. After a moment of silence he smirked at him. “Come help me son.” He turned and walked inside leaving John shocked. John quickly recovered and went inside too. As he walked trying to find her room, he saw Deltas little sister in the living room sitting on a couch. She pointed in a one direction and John nodded in thanks.

He heard some noises from one of the rooms so he peaked in and saw Deltas father trying to pull Delta to the door. The moment Delta saw John her eyes widened as she began to fight even more. John smirked already knowing what he’ll do.

“John don’t you dare lift me up.” Delta threatened and the oldest in the room raised an eyebrow at what she was saying.

John came closer and with swift movement he lifted his girlfriend up as she accepted her fate. Her father look impressed at that boys strength and when Deltas sister saw them she actually laughed at her sisters struggle.

“I hate you.” Delta pounded, hiding her face in his shoulder, trying to hide her blushing face.

“I love you too.” John responded as he walked outside with her in his arms.

As he walked through the door he earned few whistles from his group. He put her down and tried to step back but Delta clung to him, not letting him go. The guys started laughing as they poured few buckets of water on both of them. After that Delta let him go with a smug expression as the boys, the mayor and her sister were laughing, few of them on the ground fighting for their lives.

“So that was your plan or you improvised?” John asked her, smiling not really minding this whole situation.

“The second you picked me up I knew what I was going to do.” She responded with a proud expression on her face. She kissed his cheek as she walked over to her porch grabbing a gardening hose and turning to him. “Are you gonna help me or not?”

Let’s just say that the six boys went for the next house totally soaked.
