My Brother and Sister-in-law just had a baby and as a new parent gift I wanted to give them some children's books. My sister-in-law is a librarian and she’s always given me great book recommendations and I know she’ll be reading to her kid a lot, so like a great gift, boom, perfect.
But the problem is because she’s a librarian she obviously knows a bunch of great kids books already and I would like to surprise her and maybe give her a book she hadn’t heard of before. Also my older brother is a piece of shit and it would bring me immense pleasure to impress him with a great gift. Also I know jack shit about babies. I have a friend who’s got a kid that I tried reaching out to for help but he’s also friends with my brother so he’s keeping his present ideas "close to his chest". Like I’d steal his ideas, which is ridiculous because he's an idiot.
I already gleaned a list of books already have or they have saved somewhere here, so you can cross reference.
I also realized I should’ve clarified earlier, my brother isn’t evil or genuinely a piece of shit, he’s a really great friend and husband and he’s going to be a great dad; He’s just my brother so he’s annoying as shit and he pisses me off, but he’s a great guy. And if he wasn’t I would’ve beat his ass into dirt ages ago.
My brother grew up performing in a circus, that should clue you in on what he’s like. He’s very sentimental about elephants for reasons I can’t fully explain. My sister-in-law is a huge nerd, she’s partial to anything sci-fi and (obviously) educational. She has a Jane Austen biography saved on her wishlist, demonstrating her great her taste.
They’re also really into all that Montessori crap, so if that helps.
I’ve put together a rough list of some books I thought they might like here, but I’m not sure about it really. I realized a lot of the books I’ve listed aren't going to be needed for a while, because they’re higher level. But knowing their parents, the kid’s probably going to be a genius who looks going to bed while being read encyclopedias. Or they could just keep them until the kid is old enough? Again, I don’t know what I’m doing.
I definitely need to cut the list down still, since I don’t want to flood them with too much shit. That is the one piece of advice my friend gave me before he decided to be cryptic and mysterious as shit.
You don’t actually need to reply or help or anything. If you do that’s awesome, thanks. So yeah. I’m just looking for some baby books that are more unknown.
Thanks for reading. I’m probably going to delete this later.
