you orbit me like gravity and I let you

Summary:

Naruto belongs to everyone.

That’s just the way it’s always been—his laughter, his attention, his warmth given freely, endlessly, without hesitation.

Sasuke knows this.

Chapter Text

The thing about Sasuke is that his possessiveness doesn’t look like anyone expects it to. It isn’t loud and it isn’t explosive. It doesn’t come with raised voices or reckless declarations.

It is quiet, precise, and controlled. And because of that it slips beneath notice, because it wears the face of calm. it is far more dangerous.

Naruto is the only one who really understands that. Because Naruto is the only one who feels it every time it happens.

🍥🍥🍥

The Kazekage’s arrival is not unusual. What is unusual is how long he stays. Gaara has always been important to Naruto that much Sasuke understands. He accepts it in the same way he accepts the existence of the sun: something constant, something that shapes Naruto in ways Sasuke cannot erase.

But acceptance does not mean comfort. And it certainly does not mean indifference.

They’re seated on the engawa outside Naruto’s apartment, late afternoon sun slanting gold across the wood. Tea has gone untouched between them, cooling slowly as conversation stretches on.

Naruto is laughing. Not the loud, obnoxious laugh he gives everyone else the one that fills space and demands attention, but something softer. Warmer. Real.

Sasuke watches from inside. He had not intended to stay hidden. He simply… hadn’t stepped out yet. And now he doesn’t.

“…and then Kakashi-sensei was like there is no way I’m letting you idiots go alone….” Naruto is saying, animated, hands moving as he talks.

Gaara listens. That’s what he does. He listens in a way that makes people feel seen. Understood. Naruto leans into that kind of attention without realizing it, drawn like gravity.

Sasuke’s gaze sharpens. Naruto shifts closer without noticing. His knee brushes Gaara’s.

Gaara doesn’t move away. That’s enough. Sasuke steps out. The moment fractures not loudly, not obviously, but Naruto feels it immediately. His voice falters mid-sentence, head turning instinctively.

“Sasuke?”

There it is. That immediate reorientation. That automatic pull. Sasuke doesn’t answer right away. He crosses the space with slow, deliberate steps, gaze flicking once to Gaara measured, assessing before settling back on Naruto. Then he sits. Not beside him. Behind him.

Close enough that Naruto can feel the heat of him at his back, the quiet weight of his presence settling into place like something inevitable.

Naruto exhales without realizing he was holding his breath.

Sasuke’s hand comes up, resting lightly at Naruto’s waist not intrusive, not demanding, But unmistakably there. Gaara’s eyes flick downward for a fraction of a second. He notices everything.

“…You were saying,” Gaara prompts, tone unchanged.

Naruto hesitates. Just for a second. Then Sasuke’s thumb brushes against his side slow, grounding, deliberate. Naruto swallows.

“Right…yeah,” he says, forcing himself back into the story. But the rhythm is off now. Because Sasuke hasn’t moved his hand.

Because Sasuke’s fingers are curling slightly into the fabric of his shirt. Because Sasuke is right there silent, watching, claiming space in a way that doesn’t ask permission.

Naruto tries to focus. He really does. But every small shift, every breath just reminds him of it. Sasuke doesn’t interrupt. He doesn’t need to.

Later, when Gaara leaves, it’s with a quiet nod and a look Naruto can’t quite read.

“Take care,” Gaara says.

Naruto grins. “You too! Don’t overwork yourself, yeah?”

Gaara’s gaze lingers not on Naruto. But on Sasuke.

“…Of course.”

Then he’s gone.

The door slides shut. The silence settles between the two. Naruto turns immediately. “You were being weird.”

“I wasn’t.”

“You were,” Naruto insists, jabbing a finger at him. “You do that thing where you don’t say anything but it’s like you’re saying a lot anyway?”

Sasuke raises a brow. “That’s not a real complaint.”

“It is when it’s you!”

Sasuke exhales, faintly annoyed but his eyes soften just slightly. Naruto notices that too. He always does.

“…You leaned on him,” Sasuke says.

Naruto blinks. “What?”

“Earlier.”

“…I did not!”

“You did.”

Naruto opens his mouth to argue. But stops himself. Because okay, maybe he had, A little.

“That doesn’t mean anything,” Naruto mutters.

Sasuke tilts his head. “No?”

Naruto scowls. “You’re making it sound like I was…like I…”

He cuts himself off, frustrated. Because the problem isn’t that Sasuke is wrong.

The problem is that Sasuke cares. And that does something complicated to Naruto’s chest.

Sasuke steps closer. Naruto doesn’t move back.

“…He looks at you like you’re something important,” Sasuke says quietly.

Naruto snorts. “I am something important, asshole.”

There is a pause.

“…I know.”

The words land softer than expected. Naruto’s breath catches.

Sasuke’s hand comes up again this time slower, more deliberate as if giving Naruto time to pull away. He doesn’t. Fingers settle at the back of Naruto’s neck, warm and steady. “Too important,” Sasuke adds. Naruto huffs, but there’s no real heat in it. “You’re impossible.”

“Maybe.”

“And kinda jealous.”

“…No.”

Naruto grins. “Liar.”

Sasuke’s grip tightens just slightly. Naruto feels it. And instead of pulling away, he leans in.

🍥🍥🍥

Sai arrives the next day uninvited of course.

Naruto doesn’t mind. Naruto rarely minds anything when it comes to people showing up in his life unannounced.

“Hey Sai! What’s up?”

“I wanted to observe something,” Sai says pleasantly.

Naruto squints. “That sounds weird.”

“It is a compliment.”

“It is not.”

Sasuke is already there. Leaning against the wall, arms crossed, silent and watching.

Sai’s gaze flicks to him, then back to Naruto “You seem to attract intense interpersonal dynamics,” Sai continues.

“…I don’t even know what that means.”

“It means people become emotionally compromised around you.”

Naruto opens his mouth. Then he closes it.

“…You’re calling me a problem, aren’t you?”

“Yes.”

“Oi!”

Sai smiles. Sasuke pushes off the wall. The shift is immediate. Naruto feels it like a change in pressure. Sasuke steps forward, inserting himself not aggressively, not abruptly, but just enough to alter the space between them.

Sai notices. Of course he does. Naruto doesn’t.

“…You’re talking too much,” Sasuke says.

Sai tilts his head. “You speak very little.”

“That’s enough.”

Sai’s smile sharpens slightly. “Is it because you prefer actions over words?”

Sasuke doesn’t respond. He simply reaches out grabs Naruto’s wrist and pulls him a step closer. Naruto stumbles. “Hey!”

But Sasuke doesn’t let go. His grip is firm, grounding and possessive. Naruto’s pulse jumps.

Sai watches carefully. “…Ah,” he says softly. There’s understanding there now. Not confusion, not curiosity but of recognition.

“You are establishing a boundary.”

Sasuke meets his gaze cold and clear. “Yes.”

Naruto’s face burns. “Can you not say it like that?!” he hisses.

Sai nods thoughtfully. “Understood.”

He turns to leave then pauses. “…Naruto.”

“Huh?”

“You should be aware,” Sai says, glancing back, “that this behavior pattern indicates a strong attachment response.”

Naruto sputters. “You’re not helping!”

Sai smiles before he disappears.

“…I hate him,” Naruto mutters.

“No you don’t.”

“…I don’t,” Naruto admits. A pause before adding “…You’re really obvious, you know.”

Sasuke looks at him. Naruto shifts, suddenly aware that Sasuke is still holding his wrist. Still close always close.

“…Like,” Naruto continues, quieter now, “you don’t say anything, but you kinda do stuff.”

“…That’s called existing.”

Naruto snorts. “No, it’s called being territorial.”

Silence followed for a moment. Then a soft reply of,  “…So what if I am?”

Naruto freezes. That wasn’t denial, That wasn’t deflection. That was… “…You’re serious?” Naruto asks.

Sasuke steps closer. Naruto doesn’t step back.

“There are people who would take advantage of you,” Sasuke says.

“I’m not that stupid.”

“I didn’t say you were.”

Naruto exhales, frustrated. “Then what’s the problem?”

Sasuke’s hand shifts from Naruto’s wrist to his shoulder, then up—fingers brushing his jaw, tilting his face slightly not rough, but not gentle either just certain.

“The problem,” Sasuke says quietly, “is that they don’t understand what you are to me.”

Naruto’s heart stutters. “…And what am I?” he asks, softer now.

Sasuke doesn’t hesitate. “My sun.”

Naruto goes very still. Because Sasuke doesn’t say things like that. “And I don’t share,” Sasuke adds.

The words are calm and absolute. Naruto swallows the slowly he smiles. Not his normal teasing smile nor was he deflecting. This smile was just warm and one that Sasuke only saw. “Good,” he says.

Sasuke’s grip tightens slightly. “…Good?”

Naruto leans forward, pressing their foreheads together. “Yeah,” he murmurs. “Because I don’t wanna be shared.”

And just like that the tension in the room dissolves not completely, not permanently, But enough.

Sasuke exhales, something quiet and restrained loosening in his chest. “…Idiot.”

Naruto grins. “Takes one to know one.”

Sasuke pulls him closer anyway. Just in case.
