Work Text:
I'm coming home
Back to the cabin beneath the trees
There used to be a little girl there
Reading during Turtle Time
Never thought I be gone for so many years
Always knew I would return
Time slipped away from me
Just one more page to turn
Going back to the cabin in the trees
Walking away from a lake beneath the hill
There's a teen who used to swim there when I left
I don't doubt the book she holds
Always thought I would be there
When I packed I was sure I would return
But life matches on
Just one more lesson that we learn
Going back to the castle on the hill
There's a ward there where heroes grew
I doubt they know of my imagination
Never forgot those lessons in the pages
Always kept a book close to me
But grief comes for us all one day
Just one more page in his story
Going back to a burning bridge of hope
Changing disks in a binder and player in a car
But I don't doubt the joy I felt then
Never thought the stories would end
But death comes for us all eventually
Just more tears that I will shed
Going back to the rocky island in the ocean
In the backseat of a car to the library
I don't doubt the love of the world I felt
Never thought that I wouldn't come home
But time slips away from us all
Just one more click of a clock we have
Going back to a cold forest of targets
From a tent in the summer days in a forest
I don't know how my teachers never understood my brain
But change will come for us all
Just one more thing I would learn in pages
Going back to a light in a forest
A silver Oakleaft finally earned
A page turned between play under a tree
I would learn to love myself one day
But it wasn't that day just yet
Just one more time to read a book
Going back to a tower in the north
A small player with the book always there
Falling asleep late at night to a comfort
A button used to come back to a world
It was always there in a bedside table
Not yet for me to delete
Just a place to hide under the blankets away from parents eyes
Going back to a surprise wedding on the landing between stairs
A surprise for me and a surprise in the pages
A smile on a face looking back at that memory
Always on my shelf across the country
Time would pass on but the love there
Just one more chapter before homework
Going back to the twins who fought for a crown
A locker filled with a mini library is waiting for a girl
I doubt she knows she would always have a copy
A new sibling to introduce to the world
He would grow without the same stories
A lesson learned in different people not knowing
Going back to a perilous arrow and ride
There was a girl who cried when reading
I doubt she understood just yet the important of those tears
Teasing from others given for a love of books
She would learn to stand tall for what she believes
Just one more lesson coming from a page
Going back to an empire with butterflies
There was a girl who learned of fandom
I doubt she would let it go now
She would grow to be in other small ones alone
One day finding more than she would know
Just one more friend to make away from a page
Going back to stories of a world she loved
Going back to find a timeline of events
There was a girl trying to figure out when to place them again
Never thought she would make it into survival
Just one more page became years without a blade
Going back to a new crew who felt close to me
Going back to a old place with a new face
I found a girl afraid of a boat learning about them
Never thought she would need those gentle pages
Just one more time the books taught her something new
Going back to a world I loved
Going back to a book on a shelf
There was a trip to a place far away
Never thought that book signing would be so filled
Just the one time in a physical space with others who loved the world
Going back to a trio of series waiting for me
Going back to a world that I had to wait to come home to
There was a girl once who waited for release day
But I don't doubt her love still
Time just came and she grew busy
Just one more page to read before sleep tonight
I'm coming home
Back to a cabin beneath the trees
There used to be a little girl there
Never thought she would grow one day without them beside her
Just one more reason to return to a page
To remember who gave me a world full of love
I'm coming home
Back to a cabin beneath the hill
Just another time to ensure I feel them all
As grief comes in waves and the knowledge came on a post
Time changes us all but some things remain
Just one more lesson to learn from his books
