There’s a long pause, the two of them staring at each other. Jakey can hear his heartbeat in his ears, could probably hear Heinz’s if he focused hard enough.
“What?” Heinz exhales, his eyes flash with something dark under the soft light of the street lamp. “Are you fucking having me on?” he hisses.
“Can you fucking blame me?” He spits back, on the defensive. “Everything is a joke to you, why would I ever think any differently?”
“I’m never fucking joking about you, Jakey!”
