Blinded by...oh wait, he actually cant see now

Summary:

Jonathan Sims rarely has ever broken his glasses

Jonmartin Day 7: "I cant see without my glasses!"

Work Text:

Jon had had glasses since he was 5 years old and the prescription had gotten worse as he got older, a fact proved by his doctors looking mildly horrified whenever he looked at his prescription. So, all this to say, without his glasses he was a goner. So imagine his absolute horror when, when he was in the archives, he had set his glasses on his desk so he could put his head down for a minute, and he moved his hand to grab them, and they fell, lens first, to the floor. A prickle of horror flashed through his chest, he couldn't have broken them, he had had glasses for years, and only once in Uni did he ever crack his glasses. He groped at the floor for a moment before putting his glasses on.

Shit. A good half of his vision was distorted past the point of being able to ignore it. A swell of panic overtook the horror, his heart was rapidly fluttering. The first time he cracked his glasses, he could ignore it, it was minor and more just something just outside his usual range of eyesight. This time, the fall had cracked the right lens nearly in half. He heard the door open. Oh, was it time for tea? He hadn't noticed, he hadn't actually looked at a clock in a while. He straightened and looked at Martin. Who looked worried “Jon, your glasses are-” Martin started “Yes, I know, I would take them off but if I did I would be completely useless in the Archive, I can’t see without them, and even if one lens is cracked, I can still see, even if it's just a little bit.”

“Jon, are you nearsighted or farsighted?” Martin asked, setting the mug down. “Severely nearsighted.” He propped his glasses on his forehead and held his hand about 3 inches from his face. “I can see about that far before it all blends into blobs of color.” Martin stifled a small gasp, “yes I know its that bad-” Jon muttered, slightly embarrassed as he adjusted his glasses back onto his nose. “No it's not that! I just…ive…ive never seen you without your glasses on before,” Jon was startled at this “Ah, hm, right,” he tried to convince himself he was imagining the way his face was heating up.

“I can…most likely function until I am able to get an appointment with my Optometrist,” with that Jon grabbed the mug and went to take a sip, when he realized something.

He couldn't read a single word on the mug.

He choked a moment, then, as if that would make it better, narrowed his eyes and tried again, still incomprehensible black smudges on the otherwise semiclear (if he looked at it through his right eye it looked as if it were split down the middle. He knew the mug said something on the lines of “#1 Cat Parent” (No one could agree who exactly brought the mug, no one suspected Jon, ironically enough) but the worlds and black stylized paw print were missing. He felt himself start to slightly hyperventilate, fuck. Martin walked around to his side of the desk, Martin extended a hand, clearly intending to rub Jon's back or shoulder, Jon did something he wasn't sure he regretted and grabbed it instead. Martin made a startled noise, Jon felt both of their pulses quicken.

Jon grabbed his phone with his free hand, which was sitting on the desk, not giving concern to the confused/startled look Martin was giving him. He called someone he hadn't called in ages.

“Hi Georgie, I apologize for calling you out of the blue like this, and I wouldn't if this was something I could do myself,” “Jon, why do you sound so panicked, slow down.” Jon exhaled “My glasses broke and I can't see through my right lens, which means I can't read, which means-” “You can't do your job.” “Mhm, you see the problem, I'm asking if you could get my contact lenses? There on the sink corner, and bring contact solution, you know where my extra key is," "Got it, you owe me” Georgie said over the phone. Jon agreed they would meet up again eventually and he’d pay.

Jon exhaled “Now that that's settled,” he set his phone down “Who was that you were talking to?” Martin asked, clearly suppressing jealousy “Georgie, my ex girlfriend,” the jealous look in Martin's eyes didn't go away, in fact it only intensified.

𓁹𓁹𓁹

Eventually, Georgie arrived with the contacts, Tim and Sasha both recognized her as the host of What the Ghost, and both chastised Jon for not informing them they had known each other. (He failed to mention he made a few cameos in earlier episodes, when they were dating and living together)

Eventually the 3 started talking about the most recent episode of the podcast (if Jon was being honest, he didn't listen to it nearly at all after the breakup, first because it was too painful hearing her voice, later because he was surrounded by spookiness full time, and didn't need more.)

Jon walked back over to Martin after applying the contacts “Sorry I grabbed your hand, earlier, it was…quite unprofessional of me,” Martin glanced at him “Your fine, it was quite nice, actually,” Martin assured, Jon smiled, then grabbed Martin's hand again.
