The boat swayed with the waves, Jeff stepped through the gun deck quietly, trying his best not to wake anyone.
A floorboards creeked under his boot, he winced at the sound freezing where he stood, hoping he didn't wake anyone.
He heard someone shuffle in their hammock, then a voice, "goin' t-to see you- your girl?" Toby asked, sitting up in the old beat up hammock he was forced to sleep upon.
Jeff could never leave the gun deck without Toby waking up, the light sleeper was a pain in his ass. He was the only one that knew about his late night escapades.
"Yup, haven't seen 'er in several nights." He replied, his voice hushed, still mindful of the eyeless elf that slept across from Toby.
Toby nodded, "huh-hurry up then, I-i wanna guh-go see ma' wife." He said laying his head back down.
Jeff walked to the door of the sleeping quarters, looking behind him making sure no one but Toby knew what he was doing, he pushed the door open quietly.
Jeff sighed a relaxed sigh as he stepped onto the deck, the chilly sea air tickled his face. He walked toward the upper deck, where the spare boats were kept.
Unhooking it's restraints it dropped into the water, splashing sea water everywhere. Already had enough waiting he jumped in, his hands instantly grabbed the oars as he paddled himself out to sea.
Once he got a little aways from the boat he stopped, it was quiet, the only sound was the sound of waves hitting the ship.
Usually he would hear her before seeing her, the small melody she'd hum to let him know she was near. But it was silent.
No humming, no gentle singing in her angelic voice. He was starting to worry, what if someone had found her, took her from him?
That thought was forever present in his mind, humans were cruel, they wouldn't understand her beauty so they would kill her.
He knew this, part of him wanted to stop seeing her, to protect her. But he came back to her everytime, he found himself paddling to the middle of the ocean every week just to see her.
She was an addiction he could never put down.
He peered over the side of the boat, just hoping he would see her green eyes staring back at him. But nothing, the water was dark.
A splash, cold water hit his back, then a giggle. He turned around, being met with those green eyes that he adored so much, her wet blonde hair clung to her freckled cheeks.
Jeff sighed a sigh of relief, she was fine. "Damnit love, ya' scared me. I thought someone had found you." He spoke softly, his tone mellifluous.
She giggled at him again, brushing her damp hair out of her face. "Sorry sorry, I just wanted t' scare ya'." She grinned, hoisting herself onto the boat.
She situated herself so she was sitting on the seat across from him, her purple tail hung over the boats edge.
"I missed you Natalie.." Jeff said, his cheeks tinted pink, his voice hushed so the fish couldn't hear.
Her cheeks turned pink, "oh stop.. when did ya' get all sappy." She said, shoving at his shoulder. He just smiled at her.
Usually he was ruder, they'd throw flirts disguised as insults each other's way, but it was different today.
He hadn't seen her in about a week, his heart craved her, his skin burned without her touch. All the aggression he usually held faded in an instant upon seeing her face again.
The face he'd grow to love in every lifetime, no matter what universe they were in he was destined to love her.
"You just make m' that way I guess." He laughed, he felt high when he was with her, she was intoxicating. "Well I missed ya' too baby." She cupped his cheek, her webbed fingers brushing his black shaggy hair out of his face.
"I've been so busy, I've been havin' t' help Mira sink ships these past days." She said, that wasn't surprising, Mira was usually alone someone had to help her eat.
Jeff nodded, "I've been busy too, the boss has been makin' us rob a lot of people lately.." he grumbled, he could feel the ache in his arms from swinging his daggers around.
"Mhm, I know, Mira's been watchin' the ship. She always misses Toby, they haven't seen each other in a few days." She said, hanging her arm off the side of the boat, tracing circles in the water.
Jeff hummed, "yeah he was tellin' me t' hurry up out 'ere. He was gonna go see 'er tonight." As soon as the words left his mouth the boat rocked as they heard a splash.
"He's comin' t' see me t'night?!" Mira said, popping out from under the waters surface. Her blue eyes glowed bright in the dark, her lips curled into a smile revealing her pointed teeth.
The berrynette clapped her hands together, "oh I've missed him... I can't wait t' see 'im!" She chirped, Natalie sighed at her sister. "I told ya' to stop followin' me. Go home."
Mira scoffed, "fine, I'll see ya later sis. Don't do anythin' innapropiate now!" She said, waving bye as she diving back into the water.
Natalie sighed, "sorry about her..." She mumbled, Jeff just looked at her, she looked radiant in the moonlight.
The purple scales that dusted her face and body glowed in the cool lighting, the purple making the green in her eyes pop even more.
"Why are you lookin' at me like that..." She asked, he was just staring at her smiling, his eyes held nothing but love.
"You're just so pretty..." He muttered, he brought his hand to her face and brushed his fingers over her scales that sat a top the side of her face.
She giggled at the compliments, "what's gottin' in t' you Jeffy..." She asked, his sudden affection startling.
He grabbed her hand, bringing her hand to his lips, he placed a gentle kiss upon it. He smiled up at her, "I just missed you. I've been so stressed darlin', I'm just happy to be in your presence.."
Jeff's face was beet red, the sappiness stuck to his words like glue, she had that effect on him. Any thoughts regarding her got corny fast.
She smiled as she opened her arms for him, he gladly accepted her affection and wrapped his arms around her. She ran her fingers through his hair as he laid his head on her chest, her fingers getting caught in the knots.
She smelled like the sea and strangely like lavender, he wishes this moment would last forever.
He hated being away from her, he felt empty when she wasn't there, he wishes he could spend the rest of his life with her holding him.
No matter how much he wishes he could stay he would still have to leave, retreating back to the ship once their meeting concluded.
She would wait for him every time, she'd follow his ship around the seven seas for the rest of her life as long as she could see him.
Even if their meetings were short, their time spent together was held tightly against her heart.
Their love would last as long as they were alive, no one would come between them, and anyone who did would meet their end.
