Work Text:

Yellow Diamond has been disappearing lately, and Blue can never seem to track her down. She could turn around for one moment, and then Yellow is gone when she turns back, and doesn’t return until hours later. Sometimes she’ll even leave in the middle of the night when the two are sleeping together. Blue doesn’t know if Yellow is aware that Blue knows she’s been disappearing with no trace.

But today it will change. Blue is going to try to follow Yellow to the mysterious place she’s been leaving for every chance she got.

Blue steps out of her room and carefully strides down the hallway to the grand hall. Yellow was standing in the middle of the room with about seven holographic screens surrounding her, with her brows furrowed in concentration as she looked between her screens and the thrones in front of her. She was probably working on the designs for renovating the great hall to make it so that the Diamonds are less intimidating when sitting on their thrones. She didn’t think this was necessary, but White had insisted on it. Although, as Blue approached the fellow Diamond, she noticed something other than architecture on one of her screens; it looked almost like a garden-

Yellow swiped all her screens away and turned to face Blue. “Oh, hello dear.”

Blue smiled. “Hello, my darling~” She reached up and wraps her arms around her lover’s neck and kisses her jaw. Yellow let’s a smile slip but pulls out of Blues embrace.

“I have some important work to get to outside of Homeworld, I hope you don’t mind.”

Outside of Homeworld? Was this where she was disappearing to? Blue wanted to protest against her leaving, but she realized that this would be the perfect opportunity to follow Yellow.

“Of course, my love, you have free will after all.” Blue hummed.

Yellow raised an eyebrow but didn't complain.

“Okay, I suppose I should be going now in that case.” Yellow said as she turned to walk through the palace doors. She glanced back at Blue for a moment before leaving.

Once Yellow was far enough away, Blue started following her. She made sure to keep a safe distance from her while still being able to keep her in sight.

Only about ten minutes later, her and Yellow came to the ship station. As Yellow informed a few mechanic Peridots that she was taking her ship for a day or two, Blue snuck onto the ship from behind, where nobody could see her, even with her height of 50ish feet.

Once she was in the ship, Blue tiptoed to a corner right behind the control room and sat herself down with her knees up to her chest in an attempt to make herself smaller without shapeshifting (she avoided shapeshifting as much as possible because it was an old habit). Soon enough, Yellow strutted in with one hand on her hip and the other one looking through files on a hologram and- oh, there it again, that picture of a garden. Blue wanted to lean in closer to get a better look, but Yellow closed all the files again as she sat on her throne in the control room.

Yellow started up the ship and they were suddenly flying; Blue nearly let out a squeak with how fast Yellow was flying. Then, just as suddenly, they stopped.

Strange, Blue thought, the only place that took about that long to get to was Pink’s garden. Perhaps Yellow had a secret base that was close to there.

Yellow got out of her throne and walked towards the exit, this time with a much more relaxed posture than her usual firm strut. It made Blue feel happy for her, but at the same time she couldn’t help but wonder what made her feel so relaxed. Blue was usually the only thing that could make her feel that way.

Blue stood up and walked towards the exit after Yellow and prepared her lecture about how worried she’s been about her disappearances and how she should be more honest about what’s going on in her life.

What she saw once she exited immediately shut her up though.

It *was* Pink’s garden, but instead of everything being dead like the last time she saw it, it was flush with all kinds of plants and flowers. Most of the flowers were blue and yellow, with hydrangeas, periwinkles, iris’s, sunflowers, daffodils, and yellow dahlias covering the bushes that were now full of life. Blue wanted to dance and sing and look at every single flower there was, she almost couldn’t hold in all her joy.

Yellow had just picked up a watering can when she finally saw Blue staring at her in awe.

“Blue! What are you doing here?!” Yellow fumbled, her face turning a bright orange like the sun.

Blue ran up to Yellow and jumped into her arms, the wateringcan falling to the floor.

“This is stunning, Yellow! Why didn’t you tell me about this? It’s gorgeous!” Blue stared up at Yellow with wide eyes filled with an almost child-like wonder.

Yellow’s face seemed to blush even more as she stammered out an answer.

“I-it was supposed to be a surprise! But you ruined it...”

Blue laughed. “Well i don’t care, it’s beautiful regardless. But what surprise were you planning?”

“Uhm, uh... I suppose i could do it now...” Yellow turned around and pulled something out from her gem. When she turned back around, she had a small box in her hand.

“Blue, my love and my joy, my eternal star....”

Yellow got down on one knee.

“Will you marry me?”

Blue gasped. This was a human tradition, and it was extremely important according to Steven. When someone proposed, it meant they truly loved you and wanted to be with you forever.

“Oh my stars, oh my stars, uh, yes! Yes!! Of course I want to marry you!” Now Blue was blushing too, but instead of her cheeks being the color of the sun, they were the color of a blueberry. She jumped onto Yellow and completely ignored the box with the silver ring as the two of them toppled onto the ground. They burst into laughter and play fought on the ground, surrounded by beautiful flowers and a magnificent night sky as the two gems eventually glowed green and turned into one.

They loved each other, and as a fusion, they were made of love.

Notes:

This fanfic was originally supposed to be more than a oneshot and was supposed to contain some angst and stuff, but i lowkey just wanted them to love each other and be happy. i suck at writing angst.

oh and this fanfic was inspired by a song called "Building A Mystery" by Sarah McLachlan, which is why it originally was supposed to have some angst. GO LISTEN TO THE SONG, ITS SUPER GOOD!!!!!
