"His reintroduction to the pleasures of the flesh had been a revelation. He’d had no interest in arts and culture, despite the thorough education he received from Marius in his youth, and he was only dimly aware of the changes the Revolution wrought upon the mortal world. It had all seemed natural then, and only now does it occur to him that he is lacking in something fundamental that the others have. Lestat and Louis live fully in the world in a way that he never has, and more damningly, he does not have the desire to exist as they do."
