Work Text:
It was a lovely spring day and Crowley smiled as he finished making his second cup of coffee for the morning. The sun was shining perfectly through the windows of their cottage, hitting the kitchen table in the perfect way for him to sit down, bask in the sunlight, and get warm as he drank his coffee. He hummed as he picked up the mug, making his way over to his usual seat and sitting down before taking a sip. Looking out the window he could see Aziraphale starting some gardening. He had recently showed his angel the best way to plant bulbs and he was enjoying the new skill he had learned.
Crowley couldn't help but chuckle seeing his husband outside in his straw hat, a perfect pair of overalls that never seemed to get dirty no matter what, and the cutest boots he insisted on wearing outside every time he gardened. That was his Aziraphale alright. Crowley had not noticed he was daydreaming until he heard the sound of the chair across from him move. Looking across the table he saw Astra, pushing the chair as she tried to climb onto it, waiting a moment before offering her help but seeing she managed and smiled.
"Hello dove, how are you?" Crowley asked, watching her get comfortable as she sat on her knees and rested her hands on the table.
”Dad, can I have a coin?" Astra asked. Crowley couldn't help but chuckle as he raised an eyebrow.
"Another one? Didn't I already give you like 5 or so?" He asked, but pulling out his wallet anyways to grab a 50 pence coin to hand to his daughter. She held out her hands waiting for him to place the coin in them. "So young and already trying to rob me." He said with a tsk, shaking his head as Astra shook hers in denial.
"I need it for a magic trick! Papa can make coins disappear but when I asked him how he just says "A magician never tells..." But I think I figured it out!! Can I show you?" She asked giving a little wiggle like Aziraphale always would when he got excited about something. It made Crowley smile.
"A magic trick ay? Then let's see what you got." Crowley said as he watched Astra's eyes sparkle with excitement.
"Okay!" She said as she cleared her throat, holding up the coin for her dad to see. Crowley smiled looking at the coin.
"Ladies and gentlemen, this is a normal coin I am holding in my hand. Can you confirm that, sir?" Astra said with confidence.
Crowley nodded. "Can confirm, it is a very nice one." He teased.
"Very good! I will now let this normal coin disappear in front of your eyes, ready! 1... 2..." Astra paused mid count whispering; "Dad close your eyes."
Crowley chuckled sofly amused, curious where this was going. "Alright, alright, eyes are closed." He said closing them. He was very tempted to peak but he didnt want to discourage her. He could hear little sounds being made but before he gave into the temptation to open them Astra finished her count.
"3!! Okay Dad now you can open them again!!" She said proudly.
Crowley opened his eyes and looked to Astras empty hands. "Woah!! Look at that! It's really gone!" He said proudly, smiling at her and sitting back in his seat, taking his coffee back in hand and taking a sip. "Amazing honey, well done."
Astra smiled so proudly as her Dad praised her work. She wanted to do it again to make it perfect to show Papa later too. "Can I have another coin then?" She asked. "I need to practice some more."
Crowley raised an eyebrow. "Wha... why don't you reuse the coin I just gave you?" He asked curiously.
Astra chuckled like it was a silly question, maybe she was robbing him. He raised her right. "Because it's gone of course, silly!" She said with a big smile.
This was making Crowley curiouser and curiouser. "Can't you make it 'reappear' again?" he asked. "Isn't that part of the whole magic trick too?”
Astra looked to her dad and shook her head. "I can't. Still working on that part of the trick." She said as she held her hand out for another coin.
Crowley was now starting to get a bit concerned. "Astra, where is the coin?" He asked trying to keep a straight face.
"I ate it." Astra said with a smile, not realizing she had done anything wrong. Crowleys eyes went wide.
"You- ate it?" He asked to confirm.
"Jepp." she said as she started to get down from the chair. Crowley nodded and watched her walk over beside him and he knew he had to ask.
"Astra, is there a chance you ate all the other coins Dad gave you today too?" He asked not knowing if he wanted to know the answer but also very much wanting and needing to know.
"Jepp." she said as Crowley stared at her in silence.
***********
Aziraphale hummed as he brushed his arm over his forehead to get rid of the sweat that had formed there. He had heard the door open and looked over to see Crowley holding Astra walking out the cottage.
"Where are you two going?" He asked curiously, watching them head to the Bentley.
Crowley looked over to Aziraphale with a squint of unamusement but also no real distress in it. Crowley knew if anything he could easily miracle them out but Astra also needed to realise there are consequences to her decisions and a simple trip to the doctor wouldn't do much harm. They wouldn't find anything anyways. "I'm bringing this little piggy bank to a doctor and YOU, Mr. Marvelous, will teach her that damn coin trick when we are back."
