Work Text:
Madison was one years old now, April 3rd was her birthday, mikey had been gone, missing for a whole year. Frank and Gerard were concerned. A whole year missing. Where could he have gone? But they were willing to continue to care for their niece, poor girl, she was too little to understand what had happened with her papa. Frank and Gerard had gotten eager calls and texts from pete, he wanted to visit her. She had just turned one. That's a milestone after all. So they agreed, in a public place.
Pete visited for a while, he was so happy to see her, maybe they should hand her off to pete, then a thought went across their minds, what would mikey want? Would he have wanted this? Probably not. So they agreed on supervised visits.
As she grew into a beautiful five year old girl, with tan skin, mikeys eyes, and petes curls. She was very happy. She was still young enough to not ever think about asking about where her papa was. Frank and Gerard were never gonna be ready for that conversation once she was older. She was happy and healthy, thats all that mattered to them.
The years of her childhood went by so quickly, soon enough, she was a teenager, a moody one, that resembled mikey very well according to gerard. Two weeks after her sweet sixteenth birthday, gerard got a call from.. Mikey. After sixteen years. Sixteen years of silence. Its been so long. His brother gone. He answered immediately. Mikey and gerard arranged a time for mikey to come over, and wait for madison to come home from school. He was nervous, but he knew it'd all be worth it.
Mikey arrived around two pm. He talked with gerard and frank until madison got home, going over everything that happened in the past few years. He went to rehab for a few years. Then slowly got his life together through these last sixteen years. Getting sober, curing his post partum depression. He was happier and better. Mikey hasn't seen her since she was very little. He looked nervous. Gerard could see it.
After they met again, mikey and madison caught up, cried together, and got along great. She asked lots of questions which mikey answered each honestly. Madison took the opportunity to move in with mikey. Live with him until she'd be ready to move out. Frank and gerard were sad to let her go, but this was what she deserved. To be with her pops, her dad. The man who had her so many years ago. Over a decade.
They looked happy together. That's all that mattered. And in the end. Mikey raised her for the rest of her teen years. Then she moved out. Became a responsible adult. And that's where the story stops. For now.
