Work Text:
One day, not long before finals, Adrien sent a message in the groupchat with an odd request.
Adrien: Father is trying to make me attend an event on D&D Night that I don’t want to go to. I’m gonna sneak out, but…
Adrien: Can I bring another friend with me for the one-off this week? She heard about you guys and wants to join, but she never has time.
Nino: Since it’s a one-off, bro, I’m chill. You guys need the rest of the team’s vote, though.
Nino: Hey, on that note, can I invite a pal as well? He just wants to watch this time, if you guys are okay with it.
Alya: I’m fine with it, so long as your friends aren’t some kind of jerk.
Adrien: Well… Kagami’s a bit standoffish, especially in new situations. She’s a total badass, though. We used to fence together.
Nino: Fuck, that sure is a rich-person activity.
Alya: Fuck… that sure is cool.
Marinette: You guys really are in sync, huh? 😆
Marinette: Anyways, she can totally come!
Adrien: I’ll make sure she’s ready. Thanks a bunch, guys!
Marinette was finishing setting up with Alya and Nino (as well as meeting Luka, his classmate; apparently he’d helped with the soundtrack Nino used for their last campaign) when the door opened.
“Hey, Adrien,” Marinette said, turning around to face him. “Punctual as ever, chaton. We’re almost done setting up, if you…”
She stopped cold at the sight of the woman at Adrien’s side.
She had a pixie-cut with big enough bangs to start a universe, and wore a crisp business suit, though she looked to be their age. She carried an air of composure outwardly, but like with Adrien when he’d first started, Marinette detected some unease behind it. Since meeting Adrien, she’d gotten better at detecting when people were hiding their feelings.
“… why does she call you chaton?” the woman asked Adrien.
“It’s an in-joke,” Adrien answered, grinning. “Hey, everyone! This is Tsurugi Kagami.”
