Knock Knock

Summary:

Stan is about to fall asleep, until he suddenly hears a knock on his bedroom window.

Notes:

reached season 8 of my south park rewatch and heard the part where stan hears a knock on his window and automatically assumes its kyle, so i had to write something about it because of course. this is my first south park fic so hopefully i characterised them well
fun fact i wrote this in a hospital waiting room because i fractured my leg. the ao3 curse has reached me.

unbetaed and unedited so expect mistakes

Work Text:

It had been a long day for Stan. Annoying, for a saturday.

At morning, Cartman wanted to prove his strength to Kyle after he picked on him, and tried to see how far he could throw Sparky, leading to the dog getting a fractured leg.

He didn't want to get in trouble, so he tried to cover it up by blaming it on Kyle with an exaggerated story. Something about the jews, he didn't know, Stan wasn't really listening.

Anyway, It didn't work. Eric got grounded when Kyle told something more believable to Stan's dad, who then told Cartman's mom. Then, Sparky was taken to the vet.

Stan couldn't go, because Eric decided that he just needed to "have evidence that Kyle was lying" by going in Stan's place, "proving" that he had enough sympathy for the dog, so he could be ungrounded. Stan thought it was insanely stupid. Anyway, It worked.

By evening, the vet clinic burnt down, and Sparky barely made it out alive. And, Kenny died. And, Eric almost sold his soul to Kevin Hart.

But, that was a whole other story. And, it didn't matter, because Stan was in bed, and about to go to sleep. His bedding was made, his pajamas were washed, his pillows were fluffed, and he didn't have school tomorrow. A perfect recipe for good night.

He was about to peacefully drift off into slumber, that is, until he heard knocking at his window beside him.

He lazily blinked awake, slowly sitting up to gaze towards the noise's direction.

"Kyle?" He instinctively asked. This sort of thing had happened before, wouldn't be shocking if it happened again.

Maybe Kyle was sad, about the upcoming math test, or that movie they watched recently.

Maybe he was angry, about what Eric did that day, or something his family did.

Maybe he was just feeling alone.

"Hey, Stan." Kyle said from behind the glass, voice slightly shaken. Looks like he was right.

Stan quickly went to unlock his window, letting his best friend crawl onto his bed, before he shut it behind him. Kyle gave a massive sigh of relief.

"Hey, dude, you okay?" Stan asked, making a spot for Kyle to slide in next to him. He quickly accepted the invitation.

"I don't know, I guess if I was I wouldn't be here…" He shifted to look at Stan, making his way under the blanket. "Sorry for waking you up, by the way."

He grinned at him, fighting the urge to cuddle up to Kyle, and promptly pass out. "It's okay, you didn't. You can come here anytime you need, I promise."

"Thanks," He smiled back.

"So, what's wrong?"

"Today, I guess I was just kinda thinking about some stuff,"

"Like what?"

"Stuff regarding you."

"What stuff regarding me?"

Kyle breaks eye contact, his breath hitching. "It's gonna sound gay."

There was a pause, his gaze still locked on Kyle. His curls looked pretty today. He suddenly felt an itch to run his fingers through them.

"Well, then, what if I outgay you right now? So you don't feel embarrassed?" It sounded better in his head.

Kyle's stern demeanour broke immediately, giggling. "Sure.."

He looked Kyle up and down, it wasn't like it was gonna be hard to find something to say. After all, he thinks about Kyle a lot. Honestly, he always has.

"Your eyes are pretty," He stammered out.

He continued, not wanting to wait for Kyle's reaction. "Like, you know how people in the movies say they get lost in someones eyes? I think that happens to me sometimes. Like, this one time you were telling me to do something — forgot what — and my mind got all off track and I couldn't think about anything other than your eyes. Or just you in general, I don't remember. And then I missed what you were saying, like, completely. I don't know."

Stan didn't realise he had looked away from Kyle during his rant, but the sight when he peered back was truly to admire. Kyle, blush billowing under his freckles. Kyle, red in the face, because of him.

He couldn't stop his mouth from moving. "And that, too. Your face. You know? I-I don't know, the way your freckles look, and the way your curls frame your face so well, and your lips, and your nose, and your eyes- like I said, your eyes complimenting the whole thing. And… The way you're blushing right now- I- Again, I don't know, I guess what I'm trying to say is that you're really pretty."

He spewed it all out like it was facts, like there was textbook evidence to back it up. Meanwhile, Kyle still wore the same stunned expression. Stan knew better than to think he was weirded out, but he couldn't help but be at least a little paranoid.

"I think that'll do, right?" He could admit, it was futile damage control.

"You really think all that?" He stuttered.

He sounded pretty. "Of course, dude."

"Well, uh, yeah that'll do, I suppose. I was just gonna say I'm really scared of losing you."

Shit, that's far tamer than what Stan said.

"Oh, if it helps, me too. A lot."

Kyle sighed softly against the pillow, a tiny smile beginning to appear. His face still seemed to be a little red. "I guess I can tell,"

"Totally, yeah," He had no idea what he meant. "I'll always be your best friend. You'll never lose me, okay, Kyle?"

"Alright, Stan."

"Yeah, can we sleep now? Having trouble staying awake."

Kyle gives a hum, before grabbing Stan's shoulder, and slipping into the crook of his neck, their legs knocked together. Stan wasted no time wrapping his arms around the boy.
