    "Uh huh. So, uh. Y'don't date roommates?"

    "I don't. I rather not." Art sighs and scrubs his hands down his face. "But I am attracted to you. Ain't realize how much 'til earlier today. I still reckon it's a bad idea for us to…"

    Gary clears his throat, suddenly dry, and wipes his palms, suddenly damp, on his knees.

    "We ain't gotta date — right?" he says. "We could just, um, do it."
