The Unbroken Circle

Summary:

Before Boyfriend ever stood up to Daddy Dearest, seven others tried — warriors, singers, mages, fighters, dreamers, and protectors who saw Girlfriend’s light and believed they could stand beside her.

They were brave.
They were determined.
They were confident.
And they all lost.

But they did not break.

Years later, they return — not to reclaim Girlfriend, not to challenge Boyfriend, but to test him, understand him, and bless him as the first person who succeeded where they failed.

This is the story of The Unbroken: the ones who tried,
the one who stayed, and the girl who never knew how much she meant to all of them.

Work Text:

Girlfriend didn’t know why the air felt heavy.

She and Boyfriend had wandered through abandoned places before — forgotten studios, dusty backrooms, empty stages where echoes clung to the walls — but this place felt different.
The plaza was quiet in a way that made her chest tighten, like the world itself was holding its breath.

BF squeezed her hand. A soft, questioning beep. “I don’t know,” she whispered. “It just feels… familiar.” A pulse of light flickered at the far end of the plaza.mThen another. Then seven. Girlfriend froze. Because she knew those lights. She knew those voices. She knew those silhouettes.mAnd she had never expected to see them again.

The first figure stepped forward — tall, glowing, gentle. Lumina.
Her breath caught. Then a second figure leaned against a broken pillar, smirking like she owned the place.

Razorine. A third stepped out from behind them, hands clasped nervously, eyes soft and trembling. Velvette. A fourth bowed his head with disciplined grace. Stryker. A fifth twirled into view, water swirling around her ankles. Aria. A sixth appeared in a ripple of time, calm and unreadable. Kairos. And the seventh walked forward with flames dancing around her fingertips.
Solara. Girlfriend’s heart dropped into her stomach. She whispered their names like a confession.

“You’re… you’re all still alive.” Lumina smiled softly.
“Of course we are.” Razorine cracked her knuckles.
“Takes more than your dad to kill us.” Velvette’s voice trembled.
“We never blamed you.” Stryker bowed.
“We stood for you once. We stand again.” Aria placed a hand over her heart. “You were our muse.” Kairos tilted their head.
“You were our constant.” Solara’s flames softened.
“You were worth fighting for.” Girlfriend felt tears sting her eyes.

“I didn’t know,” she whispered. “I didn’t know he hurt you all that badly. I didn’t know he—” Lumina stepped closer, gentle as moonlight. “You weren’t meant to know.” Razorine shrugged.
“Yeah, we didn’t want you feeling guilty. Not your fault your dad’s a demon jerk.”MVelvette nodded, voice soft. “You were kind to us. That was enough.” Stryker’s voice was steady.
“You gave us something worth standing for.” Aria smiled dramatically. “And something worth singing for.”

Kairos added quietly, “And something worth returning for.”
Solara finished, “And something worth protecting.” Girlfriend covered her mouth, overwhelmed. BF stepped in front of her, small but steady, protective without hesitation.

The Unbroken all looked at him. Lumina’s eyes softened.
“So this is the one who stayed.” Razorine grinned. “Short king with the big heart.” Velvette smiled shyly. “He makes you glow.”
Stryker nodded. “He stands firm.” Aria sighed dreamily. “He sings with devotion.” Kairos studied him. “He is a fixed point.”
Solara crossed her arms. “And he burns for you.”

Girlfriend squeezed BF’s hand, tears falling freely now. “You all… you all came back because of him?”mLumina shook their head gently. “No. We came back because of you.”

Razorine added, “And because we’ve got unfinished business.”
Velvette whispered, “And because we want to see you happy.”
Stryker said, “And because he deserves to be tested.” Aria smiled, “And blessed.” Kairos murmured, “And understood.”
Solara finished, “And accepted.”

The seven stepped into a circle around BF. Lumina raised their hand. “Boyfriend. You beat the man who broke us.” Razorine cracked her knuckles. “You stayed when we couldn’t.” Velvette smiled softly. “You made her happy.” Stryker bowed.
“You earned her trust.” Aria twirled. “You earned her heart.” Kairos nodded. “You earned your place.” Solara’s flames flared.
“Now earn our respect.”

BF stepped forward. He didn’t flinch. He didn’t hesitate. He didn’t look away. He beeped — steady, brave, ready. The Unbroken smiled. The test would begin. And Girlfriend realized something she had never understood until this moment: Boyfriend wasn’t just the one who stayed. He was the one who succeeded.
