Summary
Kate’s decision to confront Lord Bridgerton after the disastrous dinner with the Sheffields had damned them both. The two of them were caught, alone, with his hand in her hair. He pleaded her chasteness but it was no matter. He had come to Lady Danbury’s engaged to one sister, and he left engaged to the other.
Their marriage is lonely. Kate wonders if this was the marriage he would have given to her sister. If it is, she could not help but think Edwina should thank her for taking the fall. But perhaps it is not the same. Perhaps Anthony would have been able to look Edwina in the eye. Perhaps he might have been able to touch her.
There was no use wondering. She had finally gained her family’s security. As for herself, well, it was as she had always known. It never mattered, what she wanted.
