Work Text:
the house was packed with people, way more than alec had anticipated.
he rarely ever attended house parties. or parties in general. maybe the other time was that party evelyn hosted in their second year for christmas, but even then it was organised.
it was a house party a random person in their year hosted to commemorate the end of their final year. he wasn't an overly emotional person, but he did have to admit the sentimental feelings he felt. after all, all of his school years are finally concluding.
additionally, one of the other only reasons he attended was because almost everyone would be too. funneh, gold, kyran, evan, even prince. to be fair kyran was probably only going because gold was.
at least prince and kyran werent bickering all the time anymore. prince had gotten over gold at some point during their second year, ending up with felicia of all people.
seriously, what was next? evan and alec were gonna be the new unexpected ship?
the stench of alcohol dominated the air. most people here were already 18, so it wasnt a surprise there'd be drinks, although, to his luck, somone had opted to opening all the windows (including the huge doors leading to the garden), allowing cool breezes into the room to at least make this all bearable and less suffocating.
alec wasnt a drinker. like at all. like as in hes never even tried a sip.
so when someone who was suddenly approached his orbit took him off-guard.
"alec!!" the taller male yelped. he could barely even hold himself together..
"you're drunk already?" the redhead tilted his head slightly in confusion whilst examining the other.
evan was probably just a few inches taller than he was and reeked of alcohol. alec had to just look up from where he was sat to meet his gaze. his face was all flushed, his black hair looked tangled and his teal bangs slightly clinging onto a tad of sweat on his forehead. even that damn jean jacket and the rest of his clothes were a bit rumpled and creased.
there probably wasn't a single comprehensive thought going on behind those emerald green and glassy eyes. it was cute in a way.
oh how could he forget.
evan was the biggest lightweight he knew, yet still persisted in wanting to drink.
"so??" he dragged his words, bending down to reach alec's level and leaning closer towards him.
immediately in response to evan's actions, alec leant his body away, practically dodging evan and yelling,
"personal space?!"
chuckling from the reaction he got, evan twisted and propped himself onto the couch alec was sat on, stumbling slightly as he did and managing to land closer to alec than he had meant to.
amazing. he was pressed and leant against him.
then again, he was intoxicated. what was he supposed to do about that?
after letting out a sigh, he attempted to move his body slightly off of him and to be leaning on the couch armrest instead and stood up.
"i'm getting you water, stay here."
"yes sir!!"
it was a fairly big house so it took him maybe a minute or twice just to locate the kitchen. then another to find the cups.
he muttered several excuse mes until finally reaching the second living room again with a cup of water in his hand and layed his eyes at the scene occuring on the other side of the room.
some random girl who he wasn't even able to identify offering him more drinks?
honestly, its unfavourable to immediately presume that the girl had ill-intentions with evan, but even so, intoxicating him even further when he'll be almost at his limit??
"he's had enough." he chimed in, cutting her off. evan finished his shot, exclaiming as he did so.
it probably took him a solid minute to process what he said, he replied, "wait whattt?!"
that pout of his could probably claim lives.
as if it was on cue, the girl apologised to them both and fled right after, as expected.
alec took reclaimed his seat next to evan, swapping the empty small cup for the cup of water he brought for him.
"drink it."
was he really going to be babysitting for the rest of his duration here?
evan just stared back at him and at the cup again.
what was this feeling? like all of a sudden, it just felt harder to breathe and he was struggling to compose himself. definitely just a result of the uncomfortable atmosphere, right? or maybe it just stemmed from the worry of the random girl?
it required some persisting and scolding to finally get evan just to drink that water, drinking it slowly as if his brain was moving in slow motion. well obviously, he was drunk.
maybe he should take evan out for fresh air.
"hey."
the redhead nudged evan, to which he recieved a nasty glare in response (that alec completely ignored).
"let's get fresh air." alec stood up, however, noticing evan's difficulty whilst he attempted to too.
yeah, he was probably wasted.
he should probably call an uber for him actually. to be fair alec barely did anything since he got here as everyone already appeared to be pretty occupied.
the taller male tugged onto alec's hoodie as he stood up, stumbling a bit and holding onto alec for support. i guess it wasn't that bad.
after having to push past everyone, and almost tripping, they reached the entrance and opened the door, a cool breeze hit his face.
he leant onto the house walls and took out his phone.
"im calling an uber for you. us." he corrected. oh yeah, evan couldnt go home by himself anyway. maybe he could just drop him to his door and text jacen? he could probably unlock evans phone and text him somehow.
out of the blue, alec felt a slight tug on his hoodie before having loose arms wrapped around his waist and a head reeking of booze softly resting on his shoulder.
"i feel sick man."
it felt odd hearing evan so genuine. no playfulness, no teasing.
he stopped breathing properly at just the contact. this was all doing things to his head.
alec lifted an arm up and hesitated, then eventually using an arm to return the embrace. only one though because he would genuinely rather jump than admit everything to evan in the rare scenario that evan did recall everything that occured.
"headache?"
the other hummed in response.
maybe it did feel a bit nice though. evan relying on him.
and maybe he would wanna experience this again.
this couldnt continue forever, so eventually alec did let go and took out his phone to order a cab whilst evan remained with his fists clinging onto alecs clothes as if it would flee the moment he'd release.
5 minutes.
that was alright.
he even went through the trouble of going on evans phone (which luckily only required face id) and texting his younger brother about his brother's arrival in advance and how he would be coming a bit intoxicated.
it only really occured to him how they mightve appeared to everyone. i mean, there wasnt much people out here or passing by but its not like he'd care too much about rumours at the end of school anyway. he doubted he would ever even see more than a quarter of these people.
by now, evan was on the brink of falling asleep, meaning alec had to fully support his body.
alec thanked the cab driver, getting out of the vehicle and having to support his friend by having one arm holding his waist and the other pulling the arm that was around his neck.
it was only a minute walk from where they were dropped off (which wouldve been way quicker if he wasn't carrying a whole body).
after ringing the doorbell, he was, expectedly, greeted by a male a few years younger sharing similar features to evan.
"your br—"
"oh you're alec!"
the redhead paused.
"huh?"
"it's nothing, nevermind." jacen quickly shifted the conversation. weird.
he just simply requested for alec to carry him inside onto the nearest piece of furniture. he was completely blacked out. alec's eyes lingered on him a second more than he should've. when did he begin even thinking so fondly of him?
his little brother and him shared their goodbyes and he went off.
now he probably had to take another cab or a public transport just to get back to his house. but that didn't bother him much anyway because then he wouldn't have looked after evan today like this.
