Letters Between Heroes

Summary:

Danny starts off by sending a letter to Clark Kent at the Daily Planet because he knows that Clark has connections to Superman asking for help for Phantom. Thus begins a long-distance mentor/mentee relationship. Until Jazz gets involved when Danny/Phantom goes missing and begs for Clark/Superman to save her missing brother.

Dear Clark and/or Lois,

My name is Danny Fenton, and I am writing this on behalf of the vigilante known as Phantom. Of course, if you ask the older residents of Amity Park, they'll say he's either a menace or “ghost scum”, depending on who you ask. But Phantom needs help with his powers and public opinion. I sent this to you because you both are known contacts of Superman, and I was wondering if you could get a message to him to ask him to see if he would be interested in taking Phantom on as a protégé, or at the very least if he would be able to give some advice.

Yours truly,

Danny Fenton

Dear Danny,

I hope you are having a good day. I've spoken with Superman, and he's stated that he would be more than happy to help Phantom. But he needs some more information first. First, he needs to know the origins of Phantom's powers. Is he a meta? An alien? Or something else entirely? What are his powersets? Superstrength? Superhearing? Superspeed?

Sincerely,

Clark Kent

Dear Clark,

Thank you for your response. Phantom says he very much appreciates it. As for your questions, I will try to answer all of them. If I miss anything, please let me know, and I can answer them in the next one.

  1. What is he? He’s a ghost. Literally. My parents, Drs. Fenton, created a portal to the Ghost Zone in our basement. Phantom was the first ghost to come through.
  2. What are his power sets? So far, I’ve seen invisibility and intangibility - meaning he can walk through objects and people and become completely invisible. He seems to have some sort of enhanced hearing. He also states that his powers are constantly in flux.

Hope this answers any questions. Do you have any advice on how Phantom can try to stabilize his powers?

Thanks,

Danny Fenton

Hey Danny,

It's nice hearing from you. I've asked Superman to consult with Martian Manhunter since it seems Phantom's powerset more closely align with MM's than Superman's. That might take a few days extra since, according to Superman, MM is currently unavailable. But for now, Superman says the first thing Phantom needs to focus on is emotional regulation. Oftentimes, powers are fed by emotional output. He doesn't say that Phantom has to be in complete control 100% of the time; that would be nearly impossible. What Superman is referring to is this: if something makes Phantom angry, then Phantom should find a way to redirect that anger. If he's afraid, face that fear. And if he's happy, then utilize the happiness.

Hope this helps.

Good morning, Mr. Kent and Mr. Superman

I am writing to you and Superman to introduce myself. As Danny has told you, my name is Phantom, and I just want to tell you thanks. I also want  to tell you that you and Martian Manhunter are my favorite heroes because you're aliens, and I love space. Getting your letters has really helped a lot, and my powers have stabilized, but I also seem to keep gaining more. Like every time I fight a new ghost, I seem to gain a new power. Any advice?

Dear Phantom,

I am glad to have been of help, Phantom, and I am honored to be one of your favorite heroes. I hope you don’t mind me writing rather than through Clark (who has assured me he is happy to continue being our postman, along with your friend Danny). As for you gaining more powers, there are two things I believe are the most important for you to keep in mind. One, I suggest you do not try and ignore them—when one bottles things up, whether that be emotions or abilities (remember the connections between them!), things can go awry. I encourage you to do the opposite. Forgive me for being cliche, but “practice makes perfect” really is true. Two, please remember that help is only a request away. I’m sure your friend Danny would agree with me, seeing as he first reached out to me for you! And of course I’ll be there for you if you ever need help, son. You can write, but I also want you to know that with my powers I will hear you if you call for me. Just call out and I’ll be there—would you like to suggest something specific, so I’ll know it’s you?

Clark wishes you well, and tell I said Danny hello and thank you from me.

Dear Superman,

Things have gotten a little rocky. Ghost attacks are getting out of hand, and Danny is trying to concentrate on school, and helping me out. Nothing we can’t handle though. There’s a new ghost hunting organization around called the Ghost Investigation Ward. They wear all white, like some kind of knock-off Men In Black. They’re utterly useless. The thing that really bothers me, though, is where they’re getting their tech from. Currently, there’s only two places: Danny’s parents and the mayor of Amity Park. The mayor claims he dabbles in ghost-hunting tech. It’s just weird.

Dear Danny and Phantom,

Are things well in Amity Park, boys? I haven’t heard from you in a while, though I’m sure you’re simply busy. Danny should be finishing the school year soon, right? Good luck with your exams!

Phantom, remember I’m only a shout or letter away. If you ever need backup or even just to talk, about anything, I’ll be there.

Dear Danny,

Is everything alright? I’m concerned neither you or Phantom have replied to my last letter. Please let me know you and Phantom are okay.

Dear Mr. Kent (and/or Superman),

I don’t know if this is a scam, a joke, or legitimate, but you’re my last hope. My brother Danny is missing, and so is Phantom. Please, will you help save them? The Ghost Investigation Ward has taken them and I’m terrified of what they’ll do! I don’t know how much Danny has told you, but they are a secret government organization that considers ghosts subhuman and wants to eradicate them all, and they don’t care who gets in the way of their mission either. If Superman can’t, will you expose their injustices, Mr. Kent? I’ve included a flash drive of all the evidence we have against them, though I don’t know how much good it would do with the Anti-Ecto Acts in effect.

Please help us,

Jasmine Fenton

Dear Clark,

Jazz is standing over my shoulder as I write this because she insists I write you formally to thank you for saving me from the GIW, even though we literally just spoke to each other over comms. But seriously, thank you for being there for me—I promise to return the favor if you’re having any ghostly problems in Metropolis! Gotta go write a bunch more to the rest of the League, here’s Jazz:

Sorry about Danny’s rudeness, Clark! Thank you so much for coming to Amity Park. I hate to imagine what would have happened to my little brother if you hadn’t arrived with the rest of the League, and I’ll forever be grateful. Please tell Lois that if she needs any more quotes from us or the rest of the town to let me know!

Sincerely,

Danny Fenton

Martian Manhunter

Mount Justice

Dear Martian Manhunter,

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU for helping Superman rescue me and Phantom from the GIW. I don’t know if he told you that the two of you are my favorite heroes because you’re aliens. They say never meet your heroes. But whoever said that was WRONG. Meeting you and Superman was one of the greatest days of my life you want to call it. My life will never be the same. Again, I just wanted to thank you.

Dear Danny,

It was my pleasure to be a part of the rescue team. It has also been my pleasure to correspond via proxy with Superman to help Phantom with his powers. I regret that such villainy happened and has been allowed to exist in the world we live in. I had hoped that no other person would have to go through the evils that humanity can press upon them that I had gone through, but alas we do not live in a perfect world. Still, I do hope that you and Phantom do not allow this incident to extinguish your light. Do not fear that now you have been rescued, you will be abandoned. Superman will always be keeping a proverbial ear out, and I have rearranged my schedule to make sure that I will be able to respond in case of emergency.

Yours truly,

Martian Manhunter
