Work Text:
The girl with the brown eyes I’ve thought of this day.
Sitting alone on my window sill.
The rain clouds and mildew won’t keep her away.
Now all my thoughts are starting to spill.
The sunlight will come, brightening her way.
that soft glow will rest illuminating her radiant face.
She’ll try just to carry herself through the day.
The sun never kept to one pace.
Her smile shines out making flowers bright.
Reminding me of one day.
A day I’ll never achieve just right.
It’ll cause me to look away.
Her heart is so full, made of love and of joy.
Her soul holds a life warm and fine.
The laugh in her voice is so easy and coy.
I had dreamed she’d be my wife.
I can stand here and wish her back into place.
But shes never followed one path.
And though I still search for a trace of her face.
I’m left in the long and quiet aftermath.
She’ll appear once again.
And remind me why my heart was set.
Her brown eyes will tell me what I never guessed.
That I won’t hold a single regret.
The girl with the brown eyes will admit before me.
That shes no longer here to stay.
And I’ll weep out and plea,
please, please stay with me.
I will watch as her gaze falls slowly south.
And I notice why she seemed so down.
That familiar smile is not on her mouth.
And that’s when I start to frown.
The reason stands wrapped around her finger.
The one that’s known for being a vow.
And now her voice will no longer linger.
Her sunshine will never be seen now.
And I will watch as her tears unfold.
And I will know why she’s so upset.
And I will watch as her lip starts to fold.
And I will soon have a fret.
I watch as she trembles, her voice growing small.
Like shes not quite sure what to do.
I’d want to give her my all.
But she would not allow me to.
She turns with a curl falling soft through her hair.
And I’ll scream upon the earth.
Why take my brown eyed girl?
Her orchid in her red-brown hair is always welcomed to stay.
But I know she’s going farther from me.
And now I know why she won’t go away.
I know she’s promised to another love one that’s not having to partway.
I’ll wait until the day I’ll see my beautiful girl right next to me.
She’ll smile ear to ear and now I’m left forevermore.
She is now my memory.
She’s not here anymore.
So I carry her with me through each passing year.
In the quiet, in all I became.
In sunsets that blur when I wish she were here.
And the sound of her lingering name.
The day will come and I’ll be gone.
I’ll see her face one last time.
And now I’ll know that I will dwell on.
The girl with her two brown eyne.
She’ll stay my secret.
She’ll be mine gladly.
I’ll wish I’d commit.
My one and only, _____
