Chapter Text

Lightbulb slowly sat up and rubbed her eyes, sunlight steaming through the windows and illuminating her room. Suddenly, she realized what day it is.

It’s the first day of high school!

She quickly grabbed her phone and turned it on. 6:30, phew. That meant she had about thirty minutes until she needed to be out the door. She set down her phone before standing up and walking to her bathroom. Luckily, she didn’t look that bad in the mirror. Just some messy hair and eye bags. Oh well, maybe she shouldn’t have stayed up so late after all…

Lightbulb picked up a hairbrush and ran it through her hair to get the knots out. As she did, her mind started to wonder.

What if the people at school don’t like me? What if they think I’m weird? What if I can’t make any friends? What if-

Suddenly, a loud knock on her door interrupted her trace of thoughts.

”Lightbulb, dear? Breakfast is ready!” Her mother called.

”I’ll be down in a minute!” Lightbulb yelled, focusing back on finishing to brush her hair. Finally, she was able to straighten out her hair to the point that it looked presentable. Then, she moved onto picking out an outfit.

Usually, she would wear all sorts of bright colors, but since her school had a dress code, she had to wear a basic uniform. It wasn’t that bad… A collared white shirt and a blue plaid skirt. At least she could add accessories and such.

So, that’s what she did. She quickly put on the uniform before walking over to her nightstand where a bunch of bracelets sat. She pulled each one onto her wrists until at least five of them were on both arms. She was most likely going to get judged for it, but who cares! Definitely not her.

Lightbulb wondered if she should put on makeup for a moment, before rushing to her bathroom again. She had plenty of time left, though she wanted to get finished as quickly as possible.

She grabbed her makeup bag and pulled out eyeliner, mascara, and blush. Normally, she doesn’t put on makeup, but since it was the first day of high school in her new school, she figured that she should.

After she was finished with her makeup, she put a few rainbow hair clips into her hair before grabbing her phone and rushing down the stairs.

”Here! Sorry I took so long getting ready…” Lightbulb breathed, slightly out of breath. Her mother turned around from the stove and immediately frowned. “What kind of boy wears a skirt?”

Lightbulb’s heart dropped as she just stood there. “Oh, um…” She avoided her mother’s gaze by looking down at the wooden floor. She was hoping today was going to be fun and exciting, though this certainly wasn’t the best way to start it.

”Well? Are you going to answer?” Her mother tapped her shoe on the floor, expecting a response. She had a hand on her hip and one eyebrow raised as she stared at Lightbulb.

”I’m just going to… leave early, yeah.” Lightbulb said quickly, already walking towards the front door. Before her mother could say anything else, she was already outside and rushing to the bus stop.

It was hard to not let other’s words not get to her, but it was especially hard when it was coming from her own mother. Though, she tried to push all that aside as she arrived to the bus stop.

Today was going to be perfect, and she was going to make sure of it.

Notes:

I’ll try to add a chapter or two every day until it’s finished!! Thanks for reading!
