Chapter Text
Chlorine couldn't fall for Sodium. He couldn't. They weren't allowed to be together. All the other elements would hate them. They wouldn't be allowed back into their home country, Periodic Table. Mendeleev — the founder of their country — was homophobic, always putting Sodium far from Chlorine. Only five protons — and electrons, if they were to be neutral — lay between eleven and sixteen. Only five. But they were made for each other. They were two parts of a whole. When Sodium felt like he would explode, Chlorine was there to stabilize him. They gave each other peace and stability, yet the other elements, those noble gasses who were fine alone, looked at their love and called it a sin. They called something as pure as love a sin, just because they weren't the same element. Because they would make a compound, instead of an element. They called them impure, even though table salt is a pure substance and not a mixed substance. They forced them apart with chemical changes, pushing them away from each other with physical ones. But Cl always found his way to Na. Too bad for them, they came from a small town with only a hundred and eighteen citizens. A small homophobic town.
