Chapter Text

7 years ago, two schools stood in opposition. Oil and water. Night and day. They were worlds apart.

Heavenly Heights High School and Hell Hole High School. One with an outstanding reputation and the other... Not so much.

But soon they would have to set aside their differences and face their new and forced allyship. As the state pulled funding from the district, they made a decision to combine their two smallest high schools. Heavenly Heights and Hell Hole.

The first year was tough, with fights, uncooperative students and teachers, management issues, and more problems that got in the way of creating a sustainable learning environment. Fortunately, as years passed, the students adapted and things got better. Even if the definition of "better" is 3 fights a week.

"DAD WAKE UP! WE'RE GONNA BE LATE!!" Charlie Morningstar shouted at her father as she tied her shoes.

Today is the first day back from winter break and the beginning of the second semester of her junior year. "Alright Charlie, just... just a few more minutes, please..." Her father sleepily murmured while snoozing his alarm for the 25th time that morning.

"Dad c'mon, we're gonna be late. I don't wanna get marked as tardy on the first day back!" Although her father was the principal and he made sure all of her tardies were excused, she didn't like being behind schedule.

"Fine... Ok, I'm getting up now Char... See?" He faintly said as he got up from his bed and stretched. He glanced at his alarm clock. 5:30 AM, more than enough time. After a prolonged yawn, he quickly cast a transformation spell, turning his ducky pajamas into a presentable suit and tie.

"Alright Charlie, I'm dressed, I'm just gonna do my hair and brush my teeth." Lucifer shouted at his daughter, who was in the kitchen preparing them breakfast. "Okay dad, I'm making us pancakes!" Charlie responded, yelling from a distance.

After the mess of getting ready, eating breakfast, and making sure they didn't leave anything important behind, they quickly got in the car and headed off to school.
"Dad guess what." Charlie asked him, churning with excitement. "Yea sweetie what it is it?" he responded while sneakily scrolling through TikTok on his phone.
"Since Mathletes is over, I was thinking about joining skate club." Charlie eagerly answered. "Skate club sounds fun Charlie! But aren't you already in 8 other clubs?" "Yep! Mock Trial, Gardening, Yearbook, Lacrosse, Student Government, Key Club, and National Honor Society, but now that Mathletes is over I can finally add another activity to my list!"
Lucifer knew his daughter was capable of balancing clubs, academics, and her social life. She has been a mostly straight A student, with an exception of a couple Bs, since she started as a freshman, but sometimes he worries that she'll burn out and hurt herself.

"Well okay Charlie just... just don't burn ya self out, alright?" "I'll try my best dad!" She happily replied while getting out her phone and texting somebody, presumably sending a good morning text to her girlfriend Vaggi.

After their 10 minute trip, they finally reached the school. "Alright Charlie, we're here!" Lucifer told his daughter. They get out of their car and walk towards the school with its familiar yet obnoxious sign. Bright flashing lights with the school's name, HAZBIN HIGH, on it. Although the light for Z and I is broken, students still recognize the name.

"C'mon dad," Charlie exclaimed, "Let's make this first day back count!" "Yea let's make this a great day, but wait for your old man would ya!" He shouted as he ran to Charlie and playfully tapped her shoulder. Today seemed like a good day for Charlie, and she only hoped it would keep getting better.

"Can you fucking believe that?" Velvette ranted while munching on her breakfast of choice, Flaming Hot Cheetos, "This cunt really thinks she can go on MY Instagram page and copy MY stories. Truly unbelievable."
"¡Jesús! I mean, I knew the bitch was annoying, but to think she would do all that? "Girl please," Valentino laughed. "Now hand me the bag I'm hungry too…" he said in an overly whiny tone.
"Fine bitch, just don't complain to me when you eat too much and look like that fat fuck in our 3rd period." Velvette smirked as she handed the bag over to him. "Omg stopppp that's like so mean. But so true at the same time." The two giggled.

"Oh my God Velvette turn up the radio you know that's my fucking song," Val pleaded as Velvette turned the volume up of the car radio, playing the song "Somebody" by Latto.

"Ugh, turn that down, it's way too damn early to play music this loud." Vox snarled as he lowered the radio's volume. Voxie, are you serious?!? You know that's my song." "Well, you say that about every song…" Vox's snarky reply instantly transformed Val's once cold smile into a childish pout as he kicks his feet on the chair and takes out his phone.

Vox has been carpooling with Velvette and Valentino for a while now. The agreed rules were that Vox drove, Velvette was in the passenger seat, and Val sat in the back.

At first, the drives were easy. A quick 30 minutes in mostly silence, but as time went on, they got more comfortable in his car. If Vox saw them eating chips in the car 3 months ago, he would've flipped the fuck out, but he's grown used to it.

"Okay guys, start packing up your stuff, I'm about to park," Vox announced to his passengers as he pulled into the parking lot of the school.

"Ughhh, school's so fucking boring... I already know I'm going to be called to the counselor's office because of my grades last semester…" Val whined as he started to put his phone in his sprayground backpack.

"Cheer up V,  didn't you see the link to that AI school app I sent you? It takes notes and answers like every question it's a real life saver." Velvette's always trying to "help" Valentino get his grades up, and by "help," she means sending him every cheating method and tool so he can finally stop being forced to go to tutoring.

"Ya I know, but how am I supposed to do it in school? Last time I tried I got my phone taken, and my dad needed to pick it up." Valentino's complaining at 6 am in the morning did not help with the tiredness the trio suffered due to them playing scary Roblox games until 4 am.

"You can use it for homework and other assignments too Val, you wouldn't be caught in your own house." Vox advised, but it still couldn't fix his dear friend's problem. "Okay, yea, but why the fuck would I do school work at home?" It seems no matter what they said, it was never enough to help Valentino.

The trio walked towards the building about 5 minutes before the doors opened.

"Ugh, Vox, we should've stopped by starbies I'm like, so hungry." Velvette complained while she irritably scrolled through her phone. "Well Vel, you seemed perfectly content with your chips in the car, so I didn't bother asking." Vox sarcastically replied. Velvette rolled her eyes while taking the last couple chips out of the bag and throwing it in the trash.

Suddenly two figures walked past them into the building. "VEL, VAL. HIDE ME," Vox frantically whisper-shouted as the two mysterious characters passed by.

"Vox, what the fuck?? You never acted like that when he passed by," Val said as he pushed Vox from out behind him. "Yeah, most of the time you're picking a fight as soon as you see him." Velvette chimed in.

"New semester, new me. In order to overthrow that nepobaby and become class president, I have to better my behavior." Vox was only telling half of the truth. Yeah, he wanted to become class president, but there's another reason weighing on his heart. Thankfully, the school bell cut his negative thoughts, and he was ready to go to class.

"Ok bye luvs, see you guys at lunch," Velvette waved as she started walking towards her homeroom. "Okay byeeeee just don't forget about the answer key you promised to show me for the assignment we had over break." Valentino asked her as they split ways. Vox huffed a small "bye" to his friends as he walked to class.

It didn't matter how high he held his head or how smart he talked, the memories of his past weakness still haunted him. He'll never forgive that boy for how he made him feel.

"Alastor dear, let's move along, I don't want to be late," Rosie speed-walked while glancing at her watch.

"Rosie let's not get too ahead of ourselves, it's only the first day back, and you're already rushing to class." Alastor would've much rather had a slow walk to class, maybe stop by for breakfast, and had a chat with someone. But no, Rosie wants to get to class immediately. Like it or not, he has to deal with it, he's in a pool of debt with how much he owes her.

"Oh please, Alastor, we need to start this new semester on time, plus, there's a project in the art room I want to pick up before the bell rings." She hurriedly replied as the demonic duo made their way to the door.

Alastor let out a silent sigh when he noticed the trio standing by the door, the Vees, he specifically noticed Vox. His bitter ex "friend." As they walked through the doors, Alastor noticed Vox trying to hide himself. From him? Most likely. He thought it was interesting that Vox still thinks about him on a daily basis, not that Alastor has him in his thoughts too, as he would want you to believe.

Rosie seemed to take note of the encounter and teased Alastor about it. "Wow Alastor, such a heartbreaker you are. Look at the state you left that poor boy in." Rosie said as she playfully swooned with her hand on her forehead.

"Oh quiet Rosie, that boy has issues... and I'm tired of it," Alastor responded while stretching his head. "Well you didn't seem that tired when you both fought the day before break."

Fuck... The fight. He almost forgot about that. The cafeteria brawl they (Vox) started during 3rd shift lunch. Fights between him and Vox aren't unusual, but since it grew schoolwide Principal Lucifer will take them in for a chat regarding their behavior. Gosh, he hated that lousy excuse of a leader.

"Alright Alastor, we're here. Now help me carry this," Rosie said as she shoved a velvet colored vase in his face. The vase was lined with tiny roses that came in different shades of red. "Wow Rosie, it's... nice." Since Alastor was kind of a bitch, he never liked to directly compliment people, especially after his last failed "friendship," but in all actuality, he thought it was quite nice. "Oh Alastor, always sarcasm with you."

Rosie and Alastor soon started to walk down the stairs and onto their first class. It was 6:53 so they had around 7 minutes to get to class. As his luck would have it, Rosie requested that he walk her to class.

"Come on Alastor! It'll only be a minute!" "Rosie… Your class is on the third floor." "So what, Al dear? If we make haste, we'll be on time."

Alastor's smile twisted. Rosie was always testing his patience.

"Well fine Alastor, you're right. You're not useful if you're kept in ISS all day. "Go on now." In a rare moment of kindness, Rosie decided to let Alastor go. "Why, thank you Rosie, such kindness is always expected from you," Alastor said as he superficially thanked her. "You're welcome Alastor, just don't make me regret it."

Rosie smiled at him while they parted ways. Alastor always thought it was nice to have allies. But with someone as unpredictable as Rosie is, he never knew if being with her was a blessing or a curse.

He walked to his class, hoping for an interesting day. Little did he know he shouldn't wish for things as risky as that.
