After the kiss, Yoshiki had a panic attack. There was nothing he could do about it and he knew it. The kiss was over. The words of rejection sitting on “Hikaru’s” lips were unspoken but his face showed it all. The discomfort. The disgust. Who is the monster now “Hikaru”? Yoshiki’s breathing quickened. He was still standing outside “Hikaru’s” house. “Hikaru” could come out at any moment and ask him, “Are ya okay? Do ya need anything?” This would be the worst possible outcome. He, the monster, had fallen in love with an ancient entity. And said ancient entity did not love him back. How was this possible? How was this his life?
A door creaking open caught Yoshiki’s attention.
“Hikaru” stood in the doorway and said, “Ya wanna come back inside? Mom bought watermelon earlier and is cutting it now.”
Yoshiki frowned before turning back to “Hikaru”. Despite it all, Yoshiki forced himself to smile before turning to face “Hikaru”.
“Yeah, sure,” Yoshiki began walking back towards “Hikaru”.
Despite it all, “Hikaru” knew how to help him. This is why he was in love. Not only because he was a monster but because through it all, “Hikaru” was kind.
“‘M sorry ‘bout earlier!” They both shouted in unison once Yoshiki was in the entryway.
“Hikaru” let out a weak laugh. “Ya have nothin’ to apologize for. It’s me who should be apologizin’.”
Yoshiki shook his head. “No, it was me who made ya uncomfortable. I should apologize.”
“Hikaru” let out another weak laugh. “It wasn’t…you that made me uncomfortable. It was…the kiss. I love ya, Yoshiki. You could never make me uncomfortable.”
Yoshiki’s breath hitched. “I love ya, Yoshiki,” began replaying in Yoshiki’s head.
“I love ya so much. Just not in a romantic or platonic way. It’s…odd. I think I just have a different way of lovin’,” “Hikaru” clarified.
Yoshiki felt his throat close and his eyes began to water. Don’t cry, you idiot. Yoshiki could only bring himself to nod.
“So…do ya feel the same way? Do ya love me too?” “Hikaru” grinned mischievously.
Yoshiki nodded again. “Hikaru” walked closer to Yoshiki and stared up at him.
“Do ya want a hug?” Yoshiki nodded again.
As soon as “Hikaru’s” arms wrapped around him, the tears began rolling down his cheeks. Of course “Hikaru” didn’t love him the same way. Of course he had fallen for the one entity that could never love him the same. But no matter how “Hikaru” loved him, he would accept it. A special type of love was better than no love at all.
“I…love ya too. Ya idiot,” Yoshiki whispered.
“Hikaru” laughed. A real laugh this time. Not the weak ones from earlier.
“Come on. Mom should be done cutting the watermelon now,” “Hikaru” pulled out of the hug.
Yoshiki smiled softly. “Hikaru” gently grabbed Yoshiki’s hand.
“Come on. I’ll introduce ya to my mom.”
Yoshiki seemed confused so “Hikaru” clarified.
“I’m introducing you to her as my partner this time. Not romantic, not platonic, but our own special love. She doesn’t need to understand. This is only for us.”
Yoshiki sniffled and nodded. This would all turn out okay. This was only for them. Not for anyone else to understand.
