Work Text:

The fireplace in the living room occasionally crackled, providing warmth to the otherwise chilly room. Rob and Zubin were sprawled across the couch, Rob sitting on Zubin’s lap and his back resting against Zubin’s torso. The two comfortably sat, sipping cups of tea, drowsy from the heat of each other and the radiating warmth from the fire in front of them. Outside, snow slowly drifted from the sky and onto the ground, leaving a sheet of glimmering white on top of the grass.

“Another tea?” Zubin asked, slowly running his hands through Rob’s hair, noticing that Rob had finished his cup. “No, ‘m too tired for any more,” Rob sleepily drawled, setting down his empty glass onto the table near the couch, now fully leaning his weight onto Zubin. From the position, Rob’s silky brown hair rested right below Zubin’s chin. “Ready to head up for the night?” Zubin questioned, although from his relaxed body language, he had no intent of getting up, much rather preferring the two stay on the couch for a bit longer.

“Just five more minutes down here. You’re super warm; I wanna keep you like this all to myself,” Rob said, rolling over to face Zubin, putting his head to Zubin’s chest and his arms around Zubin’s waist. Zubin hummed contentedly and put his hands on Rob’s back, slowly rubbing smooth, small patterns on the fabric of his sweater. “I’m in love with how you feel,” Zubin whispered, slipping his hands underneath his boyfriend’s shirt, hugging him impossibly close. “I love you the most,” Rob said, hugging Zubin back, gently nuzzling his head onto his boyfriend’s shoulder.

From the comfort of his lover, Rob quickly drifted off to sleep on top of the shorter man, and Zubin barely stayed awake. Feeling the steady rise and fall of his Rob’s chest, he was enticed to drift off himself. However, neither of them had gotten changed into pajamas (and were wearing their clothes from the day), so Zubin wanted to take the comfort of wearing lounge clothes. He peppered kisses to the top of Rob’s head, the contact causing his boyfriend to wake. Rob looked around dazedly, yawning.

“I wanna go back to bed, Zubes,” he groaned, pushing his weight further onto Zubin as an act of defiance. “I know you love your sweaters, but you’ve gotta get changed for sleep. I wanna get into our bed,” Zubin sweetly told. Rob slowly pulled himself from lying to a sitting position, still barely awake. Getting up, Zubin quickly bent down to kiss the taller man’s lips, hoping to make up for waking him. Rob kissed back, groaning when it ended, flopping his full weight onto the back of the couch and shutting his eyes.

“Do you want a piggyback ride?” Zubin sighed, knowing full well the answer would be yes; he’d had to do it in the past. “Please,” Rob said, forcing his eyes shut even more. Zubin walked a couple of paces closer to the couch, turning his back to Rob. He slightly bent his knees, making it easier for the taller man to hop onto his back. Rob opened his eyes from the shuffling of Zubin’s feet, launching himself forward and onto Zubin’s back.  Zubin straightened his knees with a little bit of a struggle, adjusting to the newfound weight on his back.

Rob wrapped his arms around Zubin, connecting his own hands underneath Zubin’s chin. To further his comfort, Rob put his legs around Zubin, letting his feet intertwine near his lover’s belly. “Comfy back there?” Zubin teased as he felt Rob rest his head in the crook of his neck. “Mm, just start walking,” Rob drowsily defended, feeling warmth spread to his face from Zubin’s taunting. “Yes, sir,” Zubin replied, striding towards the stairs. He braced himself to be able to climb with Rob on his back; at least Rob was a lanky guy.

Zubin took the steps slowly, trying to keep a reasonable pace, attempting not to run out of breath embarrassingly fast. He shook his head; the things I do for him, he chuckled to himself. Before he knew it, his struggle of walking up the stairs was over, and Zubin let out a huff when he reached the top. Zubin, with Rob still on his back, tread to their tiny bedroom. It was dark upstairs; only the moonlight and reflection of snow from the window gave him the ability to see. Zubin felt the walls, guiding himself towards the room, pushing the door open and walking to the edge of their plush bed.

“We’re here, sweetheart,” Zubin said, voice barely above a whisper. Rob said nothing, slowly taking himself off the shorter man and collapsing onto the nearby mattress. Zubin admired the man who was curled up in bed in front of him, looking at his soft face in the glimmer of the light provided by the moon. Zubin grabbed a pair of pajamas for himself and Rob, placing the clothes next to his boyfriend. Rob squinted his eyes and slowly changed. Zubin followed suit, discarding his clothes and putting on the much more comfortable lounge clothes.

“Get under the covers, love. Wanna cuddle with you,” Rob breathed, pulling the silky covers over himself and outstretching his arms, signaling for Zubin to come to bed. Zubin smiled, climbing into the bed, facing Rob as they both wrapped their arms around each other. Rob slotted his head into the crook of Zubin’s neck, mewling contentedly. Zubin slotted his legs between the taller man’s relaxed legs.

“I love you; g’night,” Zubin purred, kissing Rob’s forehead. A small snore was all he got in response.
