Work Text:

Telamon is struggling.

It’s been a while since he offloaded all of his negativity… and much of his power with it… into that unfortunate vessel. Now he’s an average Robloxian. No different from all the others, aside from of course his admin privileges.

There’s not a trace of the formerly mighty god on him. I mean, apart from the feathers but avian robloxians aren’t that uncommon. The glorious six pairs of swooping brown and gold plumed wings had been cut down, losing the largest pair and keeping two significantly smaller sets- on his waist and head. He couldn’t even fly anymore, the wings he kept were far too small for that. Telamon’s large sweeping tail was reduced to none more than a feathery stub, honestly more akin to the tail of a chicken than an eagle. The mere thought outraged him. Him?! The Mighty Telamon? Reduced to none more than an undignified flightless creature?!

The only hint that connected him to his former glory were his mannerisms. Old habits are not easily broken, and Telamon finds himself easily slipping into old behaviours. The cryptic fancy talk, the regal posture that oozes I am more than you could ever be, the endless scorn for those around him. Something tells him the average Robloxian doesn’t walk, talk or act like that at all.

Oh, and also the robes. He still went around in the now a few sizes too large robes and as a result he commonly tripped over himself.

So naturally he’s going to bother Builderman about it, because really what else could he do?
Telamon doesn’t even bother knocking as he wrenches the door open dramatically.

“Telamon requires your aid!” He crowed as a rather disgruntled looking Builderman looked up from his paperwork.

“What is it this time, Tels?”

“Do not call Telamon by those frivolous nicknames!” The avian scolds, receiving a sigh from Builderman.

“Well what do ya want then, Telamon?” The engineer asks, exasperation dripping from every syllable. He was more than used to Telamon’s melodramatics by now, but that does not make it any less exhausting when the (ex) bird god constantly pesters him over the littlest inconveniences.

“Telamon requires your help! How can Telamon appear… What is thy’s term for it? Average! Normal!” Telamon asks, pacing the room and scattering brown and gold feathers in his wake.

Builderman let out a snort of laughter, a grin splitting his face. Of all the questions Telamon could have asked, that might have been perhaps one of the last things he was expecting. The great Telamon? Asking him how to be normal? If he were to tell his past self he’d live to witness this, he would have thought he’d gone crazy. Telamon looks slightly scandalised by his reaction. Perhaps slightly is an understatement.

“This is a serious matter, construction worker!” The ex-diety hissed offendedly. “It was thy suggestion for Telamon to conceal his identity!”

“Yeah yeah, I know, Telamon. I just didn’ expect the question s’all.” Builderman says with a fond roll of the eye. “Well… If ya wanna blend in more… I reckon a new name’s a good place t’ start.”

“Are thou suggesting that Telamon is an unfitting name for myself?!” Telamon screeches, looking entirely too offended for such a simple suggestion.

“No, Tels.” The CEO says with a sigh, facepalming. “I’m just sayin’- Ya made quite a name for yerself as Telamon, ‘tyrannical ruler o’ the heights’. If ya wanna blend in, a ‘random’ Robloxian sweepin’ around in a dark robe like you are with the same name as this allegedly dead god is definitely gonna draw attention.”

Telamon frowns, grumbling to himself about some ‘ridiculous mortal society’ before he thinks briefly. If he weren’t called Telamon, what would he be called?

“Think about, yknow. Some basic robloxian names that average people have.” Builderman offered, seeing the diety’s struggle to comprehend something so mortal. “Like… I dunno, John or James or somethin’ like that.”

“John…” Telamon says slowly, as though he were almost ‘tasting’ how the word felt. “Well… Fine. Telamon SUPPOSES that can do.”

Builderman raises a skeptical eyebrow at the god. “That means callin’ yerself that too. And… Maybe ditch the whole third person talkin’ thing too.”

Telamon looks more offended by the second. “Thy dares to criticise Telamon’s way of speech!?”

Builderman sighs again, taking off the neon hard hat for a moment to comb a hand through his dishevelled hair. “No, Tels, I think it’s perfectly fine n’ dandy for ya to go about like that, but think about it. Have ya ever, in yer hundreds or so years o’ livin’, ever come across a ‘mortal’ who talks all fancy like that?”

Telamon thought for a moment. A really long moment. He truly knew that Builderman was right, but he was looking for any excuse to prove the engineer wrong. He racked his brain trying to find any instances of such he could remember, to no avail. Telamon gives a small “hmph”, looking away and crossing his arms. This display of such blatant and childish petulance from a hundreds of years old god by the way draws a laugh from Builderman, who covers his smirk with a gloved hand.

“Fine!” Telamon huffs, “Tel- I concede that thy is correct…”

Builderman nods. “I usually am…” He mutters offhandedly, “An’ about that name- So it’s John, is it?”

Telamon considers the name. John. It was so… Unremarkably ordinary. That being said, being ordinary is kind of the whole point of this. Despite the fact that it was a perfectly fine name which perfectly suited the exact reason he was choosing a new one, something about it felt unsatisfying.

“Hm… Perhaps not…” Telamon thinks. Again. He’s doing a lot of thinking right now. “What about…” He trails off, unsure.

“What about?” Builderman echoes, slightly confused.

“...Thy- You must promise not to judge Tel- My choice!” Telamon declares. Builderman can’t help but be amused at how the diety stumbles over his words.

“I won’t, Telamon. Promise.”

“Hm.” Telamon mumbles, “Well. What about maybe… Shedletsky?”

Builderman raises a questioning eyebrow at Telamon’s to say the least, odd choice of a name. “...Shedletsky? Where’d ya get that from?”

“Thy promised not to judge!” Telamon crowed. “Telamon means- I mean- YOU promised!” There is something more than slightly entertaining about seeing the ever-so-proud Telamon trip over his sentences in an effort to seem ‘normal’.

“Calm down Tela!” Builderman says with a laugh. “I ain’t judgin’- Don’t worry.”

“It certainly sounded like such!”

The engineer shakes his head. “Nah- nah, I was jus’ surprised, s’all. That certainly ain’t a name I’ve ever heard of.”

“Well Tel- I think it is fitting!”  The avian hissed.

Builderman shrugs, “Well if you think it’s right, then it works. Shedletsky it is.”

Telamon, no- Shedletsky gave a nod. “Yes. T- I do think it it sounds right.”

“In that case then, it’s perfect.” The engineer nods as well. “Ya still have a long way to go, Shedletsky, but I think you’ll do fine.”
