The one where Yuna finds out

Summary:

Just a short idea about what David might have told his wife after getting back from the cottage.

Notes:

Has probably been done before, but ... eh, you can never have too much of a good thing, right?

Work Text:

Yuna heard the front door opening and closing and put down the dish towel she had been drying this morning‘s dishes with.

„Did you get the charger?“ She shouted from the kitchen into the living room, where her husband would have just taken off his shoes. There was no answer.

„David?“ She called out again, walking over from the kitchen through the small dining room into the lounge.

Her husband just stood there, keys still in hand and looked at her.

„Is everything okay?“ She asked. A million bad thoughts rushing into her mind. „Is Shane okay?“

„Yeah, no, it’s .. he’s ... fine.“ David was unusually incoherent.

„What’s wrong.“ Yuna was really worried now.

„Nothing. He,“ David stopped again. Then he shook his head, as if to clear his thoughts a little. „He wasn’t alone.“

Yuna looked at him and they just stood there frozen for a second. Then she cracked a smile.

„Oh my God, David, I’m so sorry.“ She was laughing now. Trying unsuccessfully to stop herself.

„Was it Rose? Were they ... oh dear.“ She held a hand in front of her mouth trying to stifle the laughter that kept threatening to come out. „I’m sorry you walked in on that. We should have tried calling again.“ She was still grinning, hardly able to stop the embarassment.

„No. Not Rose.“ David’s face did something weird and Yuna stopped laughing.

„Not?“ Now she was confused. Who else would it have been? Shane was still dating her, wasn’t he? She got serious again.

„No. It was ...“ David was looking at the floor as if there was something interesting going on there. „It was a man.“

„Oh.“ Yuna’s face must have mirrored the shock on her husbands face. „Oh,“ she repeated. „Okay, no, I mean, we thought that maybe ...“ she trailed off. Then she pulled herself together visibly. „No, we thought maybe that was a possibility, right? We’re good with it. Right?“ She nodded at him, as if willing him to agree.

„Of course.“ David nodded as well, his shocked face slowly returning to normal. „Yeah.“

She laid a hand on his arm. „It’s okay. He is allowed his happiness.“ Then she remembered her first thought and added. „Oh God, they weren’t ... naked or anything, were they?“

David shook his head. No.

„No, they must have had a swim in the lake.“ He clarified. „They wore trunks.“

„So,“ Yuna gestured for her husband to sit down on the couch and sat next to him. „So, it was definitely a man?“

„I ...“ David seemed to recall the moment, slightly unwillingly. „Yes, definitely. Tall. Broad shoulders.“

„An athlete?“ Yuna was now in her research mode. Going through every possible option in her head. Who would Shane have taken to the cottage with him? It must be someone he trusted. Someone he knew well. Not some quick hook up. Shane would be too paranoid to let anyone into his life like that. Especially, if he had been hiding this secret for a while.

„Did you recognise him?“ Yuna asked.

„Yuna, I only saw him for a second or so. Curly hair I think.“

„What did you do? Did you not talk to them?“

„No!“ David shook his head vehemently. „I was really shocked. Embarassed. I turned and left.“

„You what?“ Yuna looked at her husband in disbelief. „Oh no, David, Shane will be panicking now.“

„Should I drive back?“

„No,“ Yuna tried to think of what would be best in this situation. „No, maybe we should call? I don’t know. Maybe he will call?“

„Was it Hayden?“ Yuna suddenly blurted. That would be terribly terribly bad. Very bad.

„You mean Pike? No, he’s shorter. Darker hair. It was definitely blond and curly. I think. Like that Rozanov fellow.“

„Well, it definitely wasn’t him.“ Yuna waved a hand dismissively. „Good. Okay. Who else do we know on his team?“

„Yuna, it might have been anyone. It doesn’t have to be someone on his team.“ David thought maybe they should just let Shane come to them in his own time. He would talk to them. He would.

„He would have told us if it was just some guy. It must be someone he didn’t want us to know about. Why else would he have told us not to contact him over the summer?“

„Yuna.“ David’s tone of voice was very serious. His wife looked at him.

„What?“

„Here they are.“ David pointed out of the window at the car coming up their drive.

„Okay, we are good about this.“ Yuna said, breathing in deeply.

„We are.“ David squeezed her hand once and then there was a key in the door.
