Early Morning Kisses

Summary:

you cuddle Dr Ratio. That's it. That's the fic.

I have not played this game before, this ficlet was purely made for my friend who likes this character and was feeling sad, and they gave me free reign.
They gave me permission to post this, so I wanted to share it with everyone in case they ever need a pick me up, and some cuddles from your husband, Dr Ratio.

Notes:

This is not my usual type of writing, if you are a frequent reader of my works. for one- it's a completely different fandom, lol!
But yeah, my friend was sad and I was like "give me a list of characters" and Ratio was on the list, so I decided to challenge myself and this fic was born.

It's not as long as I would have hoped it to be, bit I think I did really good for someone who hasn't played this game before, or read other fics on ao3 about this character.

Please enjoy!!

Work Text:

The first thing you feel while waking up is warmth.

All encompassing warmth, seemingly spread through your whole body. You can hear the birds, maybe a mourning dove and a northern cardinal chirping brightly, and you can't help but groan and roll onto your side, pressing your face against something soft to hide your face from the rising sun that is starting to come through your bedroom window, and shine into your eyes. Without even opening your eyelids, you can perfectly picture the oranges and yellows of the sun's rays, and the warmth of the blanket and the person next to you makes you want to fall asleep again.

The person whom you’re holding onto chuckles, and raises an arm, which you protest for a moment, then realize that he’s raising his arm so you can snuggle closer to him, to rest your head on his chest if you wanted. You do so immediately. He gently rests his arm on your side as soon as you’re comfortable, and you hum contently.

You focus more on the sounds around you. The birds and their never ending, constant chirping, the inhale and exhale of the chest you are laying on, the near silent pages of the book that he is holding between his fingers, and the occasional long exhale that can be counted as amused or a laugh.

“Sleep well?” Dr Ratio asks, switching his book from two hands to just one, so that way he can rub your back and thread his fingers through your hair. You nod and hum against his chest, hearing his heartbeat. It’s almost lulling you back to sleep. He chuckles, making his whole diaphragm move, and you hide a smile. For as much as people complain about his bluntness and ego, he can be surprisingly soft around you. “I’m glad.” another page turns. “You had a rough day yesterday.” You groan. “Don’t remind me,” you mumble into his chest.

It was a busy day yesterday for you, running around and doing errands and chores, such as getting the groceries for the week, or ironing and doing the laundry. It may not sound like much, but Ratio had been gone for a little over a week, and the loneliness was starting to get to you. Maybe that’s why you’re clinging to him so hard, you wonder. You can’t help but hug him closer to you.

After a few moments of silence, he shifts and pulls away and you whine softly again, trying to get the warmth to come back, and you open your eyes just slightly, wincing at the brightness of the room- the sun now shining directly through your window and hitting the wall, and you watch as Ratio gently and carefully sets his book down on the bedside table, then turn back to you, rolling on his side to face you.

“Hi..” you say, admiring him. It’s crazy, you think. That you were able to court and marry someone of such prestige, someone of the Intelligentsia Guild no less, and the fact that he was just as much in love with you as you are to him.

“Hi.” he says back, opening his arms up and gently pulling you closer into his chest, your head pressing against his chest and collarbone, your legs tangling with one another, as you wrap your arms around him and he does the same for you. “Missed you.” you mumble again, slightly cursing yourself for being so needy. He cradles the back of your head, and kisses the top of your hair and you can’t help but melt into his touch even more. “I missed you too, dear.” he says against your head.

“Rest some more. I’ll be here when you wake up.”

You nod against his chest, and fall asleep again to the sound of the birds and his heartbeat.
