Work Text:

Tonight, you were on a date with your lover, Yi Xi. You have planned this for a while, a celebratory outing for the success of her new song, Adam. You felt like she deserved a night out, only the two of you, enjoying yourselves. So you have decided to go to the local bar in town. You were both dressed in the proper attire, but Yi Xi’s choice was one that made you fall in love with her all over again. She wore a wine-red colored dress, tight around her form but also with frilly lace edges. As a coat, she wore a black leather jacket. The outfit looked so beautiful on her. Her olive-like skin complemented the shade of red perfectly and you could not help but look at her almost all the time.

You were both sitting on bar stools, the warm light of the establishment gently shining upon the two of you. She was fiddling with her fingers and you were looking at her, admiring. Suddenly, a man came in front of you, waking you both from the trance.

“Good evening. What can I get for you two?”

“Ah, I would like some fruity based drink, anything really” you said as you sharply turned your head towards the man.

Yi Xi started to giggle as she gently put her hand on your shoulder. She looked mischievous and you did not know what she was planning to say.

“Aww…I take it that you don't like your throat to burn. Yeah I’d have vodka with some Pepsi and lemon thank you! Make the vodka be in a larger percentage” Yi Xi signaled to the bartender. He nodded and started to prepare your drinks.

“Yeah, is there a problem with that?” you replied back teasingly.

“Ha, no no, it’s just like, I pride myself with resisting even the most throat-burning drinks. And I have a high alcohol tolerance and all.” She placed a hand on her chest, showing off her pride through her gestures. You knew this was one of her attempts to impress you. So you indulged.

“Right, right. And I am the president of France.” you replied, your mouth curling into a smile.

“Even if you don’t believe me fully- I am certain I have a higher alcohol tolerance than you, lightweight.”

“Pff, okay, sure, let’s go with that”

“Fruity drinks ain’t gonna get ya drunk, you know? That’s why I assumed.”

“Is there a problem with just being tipsy? In any case, you just wanna have a drunk off so you can prove your point.”

Yi Xi gasped loudly, as if your supposition was highly offensive to her…and her ego.

“A-am not! And plus - there is no need for one, I’d beat you. You will go to sleep after the first glass of what I ordered right now, while I’ll be okay.” She retorted, voice filled with a fiery spite.

“You really  wanna test that?” You smiled again, remaining calm. It was sometimes funny to see your girlfriend get slightly pissed off at the smallest of things. She reacted pretty adorably - like an angry kitten.

“Actually, yeah! I want to. I wanna see you lose! Winner pays the tab”

“Of course the winner pays the tab since the other one is gonna be passed out on the table”

“Whatever, you know what I mean-”

Yi Xi called to the bartender again, hand raised in enthusiasm and a desire to win. You loved the passion she had when she's competitive, but now it was going to bite her in the ass big time and you had to be ready for it. The bartender turned his head around, looking at Yi Xi with a puzzled look.

“Give her a glass of what I ordered as well.”

The bartender nodded and got ready to prepare a second drink for you as well. Yi Xi was grinning from ear to ear, being almost too confident in herself. You remained calm, but you were also smiling.

Both of your drinks came along, of course - the bartender did not forget the previous drink you ordered. You looked at both with a neutral look, then your gaze went upwards to Yi Xi.

“I think you should have my drink too, Yi Xi” You said and pushed the glass towards her.

“W-what?” Yi Xi was woken up from her smiling trance, not having expected this move from your side.

“Did you not say you have a higher alcohol tolerance? This should not do anything to you, right?”  You questioned her, although you knew the answer already based on her break in character. Now she could either back down, or-

“N-nah, it won’t do jack shit to me, trust me!”

Or she could double down on her statement. It was funny to see her keep the act up.

“Alright. You start with this one, then we can start with the real deal. Then we will see who the real lightweight is.” You kept the challenge open, reminding her of the bar she set for herself.

You could sense the mental storm brewing inside of Yi Xi. She probably realised she harnessed herself to a situation she could not truly handle. But it’s okay, you were there to pick her up if anything were to happen.

Yi Xi looked at both of her drinks, and gently lifted the one you were supposed to have to her lips. She flashed a smile at you before drinking it fully. She set the glass down, sighing heavily. As she wiped her lips, you decided to speak again.

“So? How’s it taste?”

“Pretty good actually” She said, her confidence coming back to her slowly

“Do you feel any different?”

“Hardly, to be honest”

“Now you see why I get this instead of whatever danger potions you ask for?” You decided to tease again.

“Yeah ‘cause you’re a lightweight. Let’s see you when we get to the big boys right here” She retorted, pointing at the other two glasses in front of you.

“Alright, alright. Well let’s get to it then.” You smiled at her, prompting Yi Xi to furrow her eyebrows as she steadily put her hand on the glass and lifted it quickly to her mouth, chugging it down. You followed soon after, quietly drinking your drink as well. As you set the glass down, you took a look at your girlfriend again. Her cheeks started to get rosy. You decided to wait it out a few minutes.

“Anything changed?” You asked her again. She seemed to be in a trance, giggling to herself a little. Yeah. She was faltering after the first drink. As expected. You do not know why she kept insisting that she had a high alcohol tolerance. You knew very well how easily she was taken over by it. Maybe she thought that with each time she’d pass out she’d develop more tolerance. But it never really worked.

“Ha…I still feel good…as new. Why do you ask?” She giggled while looking a bit wonky at you. Why was she denying it….

“Dunno, you look kinda tipsy to me” You pointed to her flushed cheeks, laughing to yourself.

“H-huh?! What makes you say that??” She sounded offended again, although her energy levels were depleting slowly that her seeming offense did not have as much strength anymore.

“Well, your cheeks are pink, you started to giggle. Are you sure ‘high percentage vodka’ was the right choice, dear?” You chuckled again, letting your words sink into Yi Xi’s progressively drunken mind.

“Mhm…I don’t feel any different or whatever. Bartender! Another one” She screamed for the man again, who turned to face you two again, and went to make the same drink. In your eyes, it seemed like he was getting tired of making the same mix over and over again. But since this was his job, he did not protest much.

After a few minutes, two more glasses were placed in front of you. You swiftly grabbed yours, and slowly poured it down your throat, trying to fight the burning sensation of the vodka.

“Ha, the burn getting to you?” Yi Xi tried to feign her confidence once more, but at this point it was the alcohol speaking for her.

“A little, but at least I’m not as drunk as you.”

“I’m…not drunk! I’ll prove it to you!” Yi Xi proceeded to chug the drink down. You were starting to get worried for her, but you knew how to treat a hangover, and you were sober enough to get a car and get the fuck back home.

The drink was starting to mess up with you a little bit. Your eyes felt heavier and movements slower, but you retained the necessary awareness and strength to make proper moves around the place. And you were for sure not like Yi Xi.

She did not fare well after that second drink. She was slowly slumping over the bar table, arms folded beneath her head. She was giggling to herself even more now, and her eyes were slowly closing in. You instinctively got closer to her and put your arms on her shoulders. Yi Xi was now vulnerable, and it was your responsibility as the more sober one to take care of her.

“Ha…He-he…” Is all you could hear from her, followed by hiccups.

“Yi…Xi?”

“...hhhmmmmmmmmmm???”

Right, she was now speaking in the equivalent of a key-smash. Typical for her when she gets drunk out of her mind.

“Yeah you are not having another drink that’s for sure.”

“....mrhm,,”

“Don’t say no, you are literally groggy and almost wasted. You can’t even string two sentences anymore.”

“..but…but!”

“No Yi Xi. We are going home, okay?” You said, reassuringly.

You started to caress Yi Xi’s back slowly, calling the bartender in the meantime so you could pay for the both of you. He came over quickly, and you gave him the cash to pay your tab

Now you’ll have to call an uber to get home. Or something. You pull up the app on your phone, and begin to request a ride from the bar back to your apartment. After processing the payment, the  app showed that the ride would get there in around…5 minutes. In that time, you had to carry Yi Xi outside. And it was not an easy task. Especially because she would weigh on you like a sack of potatoes now that she’s almost wasted and can’t control her body.

Alright, you can do this. You hopped off from your chair, and gently tried to lift off Yi Xi from the sleeping position she assumed on the table. You shifted her position so she’d face the opposite way and gently helped her climb down the chair, albeit a little bit difficult due to her lack of proper balance. She clung onto you, arm draped across your shoulders. Okay, that part was over and done, now you had to walk with her outside. Your steps were messy and heavy, since you also had someone else weighing you. But little by little you advanced to the door. Yi Xi was all giggly, hung across you. It was cute, although you now had more pressing matters to focus on.

Soon enough, you reached the outside of the building, the cool spring air gently brushing both of your faces. It seemed to have revitalised Yi Xi a little, since she now was able to string some words together.

“We…going home?”

“Yes Yi Xi, we are. I called an uber to take us back. It’s okay.”

Yi Xi sighed and let her head down.

Soon enough, you saw a car approaching you both. To be sure, you took your phone out with your free hand and checked the number and the model of the car on the app. Everything seemed in order.

You opened the door and helped Yi Xi go into the backseat, and she instantly leaned down on the opposite door. You followed in, greeted the driver, and closed the door.

The ride was oddly quiet. You were looking out the window, while holding Yi Xi’s hand – who was still resting her weight against the other window. Was she asleep? You did not want to wake her up in case she was. Suddenly though, you felt her shift and she moved positions. Her head was now resting on your shoulder, and her arm draped around you. You stopped for a second to admire her. She looked dreamy like this - groggy and sleepy because of the alcohol, her features being contoured slightly by the lights that were passing by outside. She had a soft look to her, and it made you smile, as you placed your free hand on her hair, and caressed it gently. Yi Xi nuzzled more into you and you could swear you saw a small smile taking form on her tired face.

This was not the first time you had to pick her up and get her to rest after getting drunk as all hell. But even so, you’d go through it all again. To take care of your lightweight girlfriend. You did question how she could be in denial about it after so many events like this one. But you were also too tired and tipsy to answer your own question, so you just chuckled softly.

After a little bit, Yi Xi slightly raised her head, and she spoke again - her voice tired and groggy, but warm and sincere.

“...i love you”

Oh that was the cutest ‘I love you’ she’s ever said it just made your heart melt. You wanted to squish her rosy cheeks right then and there but she was too tired and drunk for it.

So you just kissed the top of her head, while saying a warm “I love you too” back to her.
