Norris and Ricciardo were potentially the best pairing to ever pilot Sunrise Medusa. In a year and half they singlehanded dealt with 15 VAST emergences. It was practically unheard of.. and it made them very, very famous.
They lived the kind of life they used to only dream of, piloting a huge, beautiful, terrifying war machine against unknowable cosmic horrors.But that was three years ago. And now Danny is dead. The VAST are evolving more and more with every passing month, and there’s barely enough Marionnettes left to keep up. So Lando has a choice. Hang up his suit, retire early, and shoulder the shame of giving up voluntarily when there’s so few people who can do what he does, so few people protecting the whole planet. Or, he can interlace with a new pilot, become half of a new pair, and be forced to know the inside of someone new’s mind so well that his mind and their mind becomes one and the same. And now that he knows his prospective new copilot is Oscar Piastri, he’s honestly not sure which option is worse.
