Work Text:
It was a normal day in Paris. The sun was shining. The air was sweet. But to Marinette, the air felt heavy.
She and Adrien had been dating for 2 months now. They promised to not keep secrets from each other, but she knew she'd broken that promise multiple times already. It’s not like she had a choice, though. “Beautiful day, isn’t it?” Adrien said.
“No, it actually isn’t.” She said.
“What?”
“I’m done lying. Adrien, remember that scarf you got for your birthday?”
“Yeah.”
“That wasn’t from your dad, it was from me. And your father, he, he was Monarch. He wasn’t the hero, he was the villain.”
“How do you know that?”
“I-I’m Ladybug. I fought him. He made me promise to never tell anyone, especially you. I lied to the entire world.”
“You’re Ladybug?”
“Yes.” The rest came out, one by one. How Adrien was a sentimonster, how Nathalie was Mayura, his father’s reason for being a villain, how his mother’s body was in the basement of his own house.
The only thing Marinette could say after that was, “I’m sorry.”
Marinette hugged Adrien, crying into his shirt. Adrien, not knowing how to comfort her, just rubbed her shoulder. “It’s okay M’lady.” He said.
That confused Marinette. He’s never called her that before. Only Chat Noir’s called her that. And then it clicked.
“Are you-”
She moved back, far enough for her eyes to meet his. “Are you…Chat Noir?”
“I wanted to tell you. But well, I couldn’t. But it’s you and me against the world, M’lady. Always.”
No. Marinette thought. He can’t be okay with this. He must be furious. He’s acting like this so I won’t get upset.
“You don’t have to act. I know you’re not okay with this.” She said.
Adrien sighed. “Plagg, Claws Out.” He said. “The truth is, I’m not. I’ve just been lied to by someone I could trust. And I didn’t know what to do. But now I do. Marinette, please let go of me.”
And she did. She didn’t know what he was going to do. “Cataclysm.” Adrien said, his voice shaking.
He held his arm close to his heart. And then Marinette realized. “No!” She yelled, grabbing his arm and grabbing a rock.
She put the rock in his hand. “Detransform.” She begged. “Please.”
“But I- This is my fault. It has to be. I always obeyed my father, when I shouldn’t have.” Adrien said.
Marinette put her hand on Adrien’s hand. “You didn’t have a choice. If you did, I’m sure you wouldn’t have obeyed him.” She said. “I promise you.”
“Claws in.”
Adrien’s eyes met Marinette’s. He hugged her. Tears fell down his face. Marinette was crying into Adrien’s shirt, pretty sure that his shirt was soaked by now from her tears.
Adrien gave her a little kiss on her forehead to comfort her. “No more secrets?” He said.
“No more secrets.” She said, smiling.
The End.
