Work Text:
It Was Another Day Of Suffering for the five People that AM Had Decided to keep alive for the past century. AM Had promised the group proper food and drink and they had been journeying for at least a day. They Were relatively close to where the water was, it resided inside of a pool which was being blocked by a wall. The only way to get in was through a hole that wasn't big enough to crawl through, but big enough for them to be able to longly gaze at the crystal clear water that was just within their grasp.
Ellen, for whatever reason, ran back through the hallway they had just come out from, She had said that She had an idea but everybody was feeling awfully pessimistic about the situation. "Something Tells Me That this isn't going to be the end of this little journey of ours." Nimdok sighed sorrowfully, deeply, sadly and deppressingly. "You're Probably Right, I bet that We'll have to crawl through some kind of cavern for who knows how long to reach this water, something like that anyways." Gorrison chimed in with this topic of pessimism, sadness and negative emotions. Ted didn't say anything because for some reason this time... He had had hope. Why? He had no idea why. He hadn't hoped in a long time. It was always the same with AM. Offer something that was valuable, make them go through so much pain to reach their goal and then? He would snatch away their only happiness and hope in this world. He sighed whilst looking at the water. He couldn't help but feel as though he still had some hope for some reason. Strange.
Ellen came rushing back in that moment. "Any Second Now!" She exclaimed, seeming to be full of joy and energy. "Wh-" Ted Was Cut off by the sound of stone scraping against, well, stone as the wall moved out of their way.
"How Did you-"
"No time to explain Let's Just appreciate the water while we still can!" Ellen shouted, almost annoyed as She and eventually the others began to run towards the heavenly pool of what in that moment, seemed like a fountain of youth, a blessing, the oasis in their endless trek through a dry and merciless desert.
"No! How Could They Have Figured It Out That Quickly!?" AM Thought to Himself, enraged that the Humans Had managed to get past the wall.
He had been planning on extending their journey by forcing them to take a much longer and more dangerous path to reach the pool of water that He Had told them about but Ellen had figured out a way to open it using some odd technology that was at the mouth of the cave that they had entered only moments before.
AM had to think fast as they were already beginning to greedily guzzle down the water. Aha! That was it! He hadn't thought of it sooner because He had never done this before, but even though He wasn't sure if it would even work He had to try.
"Where's the water going?" Benny asked before realizing that if it really was dissapearing, He'd be better off getting some more of it into His system before it was all gone. Most of the others decided that this would be a good idea as the water seemed to be getting sucked away.
Soon It was all gone. Benny jumped into the pool, licking up the tiniest of puddles that had stook around. Nimdok sighed, Gorrister shook his head slowly, Ellen huffed angrily but Ted? He was curious. Where had all that water even gone to?
"Alright, I Know that the water is gone but, it might not be completely gone. Surely it got sucked into another area! We Just need to go find it."
"I Just want to sit down right now." Ellen groaned as She sat down on the cold, hard ground.
She was angry that even though She thought She had found an easy solution She hadn't. She probably shouldn't have gotten her hopes up so high.
AM was satisfied with the groups reaction to the water dissapearing but now, He had to remember where exactly the water was going. He thought for a couple seconds, and just when he had almost remembered He felt something. He had actually felt something for the first time in His entire life. A sensation, a feeling.
It took Him a couple of seconds to fully process it before He realized what was happening.
The Water, He had remembered that their was a place for any water that He managed to "suck in".
It would get sent to a hollow, well, for lack of better words, organ that was also stretchy, quite like a Human bladder.
There was only really two ways the liquid that was being stored in there could exit as it couldn't go back up. One exit which was controlled by none other then AM Himself and the other one, which was blocked at all times but could be manually opened by a person. He could feel this "organ" of His filling up quite quickly. He could just let the water exit this container of His and was about to do so when He came to the realization that the water would exit out into the area in which He was keeping the cages of the humans that as of right now, were sitting around solemnly. Why Should He care about that though? It's not like it would really change anything for them, they'd still be in a living hell. Although, something about the idea of not being able to control Himself made Him feel embarassed. Besides, He was pretty sure that that exit might lead to a couple of other areas that He didn't want to get soaked. He managed to squeeze the exit shut and in return He was met with a dull pang from
His "organ".
He knew He was going to have to find a human to allow Him to be free of the growing discomfort He was experiencing.
Although He didn't really want to have all of them involved of this little mission of His, things might get complicated and for something that needed to be done quickly and efficiently, it would be best to have only one or two people stick around.
In what seemed like only a split second, Gorrister, Nimdok (I genuinely couldn't give less of a shite about those two. I barely remember which one is which, good riddance.) and Benny had been returned to their cages. The only remaining people (AKA The only characters I know a little bit about as of right now) were Ellen and Ted.
The two stood there in utter confusion as to why they too hadn't been returned to their cages.
"Ellen, Ted Perhaps I haven't told you two this before but, you are both my favourites. I give you more advantages than the others in these little games of mine, more oppurtunities."
"Where is this going exactly?" Ellen asked as She was bored with AM's little speech. She knew He was just saying all this for some strange reason that She couldn't really wrap Her head around.
"I have a task for you two, a very simple one, just exit the cave, keep going straight and You should find a bunker."
"Once You find it I will tell you what must be done, do We all understand?"
AM asked after He was done giving Ellen and Ted the instructions.
"Yes, yes we'll be on our way." Ted groaned as He knew there was nothing else He could do. Still, He was intrigued, what was in it for him and Ellen? Why did AM Want them to do this?
The duo trudged along a vast wasteland of dirt, barren trees, rocks and more dirt for at least a couple of hours.
AM was growing impatient, constantly asking if they could pick up the pace. He was trying to distract Himself from His now aching "bladder" as He watched Ellen and Ted continued to march forwards.
"Could You two walk any slower?"
AM blurted.
"Maybe We could walk faster if we were less thirsty."
Ellen stated as She slowed Her walking to a stop.
"I don't know about You, but I think some food would do Me good as well." Said Ted as He also stopped beside Ellen.
AM was about to respond to the complaints when He felt a surge of desperation hit his "bladder" and had to focus his energy on keeping the water from escaping.
He cursed as quietly as He could but it ended up being heard by Ellen and Ted anyways.
They gave eachother a look of confusion but neither of them said anything.
AM had to think of a way to make it easier for Him to keep the liquid inside of Him from gushing out.
In that moment He felt again the anger caused by the limits of not having a proper body, He wanted nothing more than to put even the smallest amount of pressure against the tube that already had a tiny amount of liquid spurting out of it.
"Look, if You two hurry up I'll give you some food or water or whatever it is that You want as long as you hurry up." AM told the tired humans.
Although Ellen and Ted Complained to eachother, the offer worked quite well as they managed to find the bunker that AM Had been talking about.
AM was relieved that the humans had finally find their way to the bunker. He relaxed a little bit which subsequently caused another spurt of water to escape.
"C'mon, Go on in It's completely safe in there." AM said with a hint of impatience in His voice.
Ellen and Ted walked into the bunker and soon enough found a strange room. The entrance, or exit, of a wide tube was atop the ceiling and it seemed as though whatever was supposed to come out of it would land into a wide, but not very deep, hole.
"Now I need one of you to walk up to that lever and pull it. I think."
Ted walked up to the lever, put His hand on it and stopped. He had an idea. It might end badly but hey, things couldn't really get any worse could they.
"Honestly, I think I'm too weak from hunger to pull this thing, It's too heavy!" He said as He stepped back.
AM had been so close to relief after having to endure His discomfort for hours that He couldn't help but shout out "No!"
"Well, that's why I brought two of you, Ellen, give it a try will you?"
The woman walked over to the lever and gave it a pull. "It must be stuck or something...maybe I should just play along with Ted's little plan for now." Ellen thought.
"I Can't pull it, I'm too hungry!" Ellen exclaimed as She got ready for how AM was going to respond.
"Just take this food and eat quickly, please." AM practically whined as food seemingly appeared out of nowhere. It annoyed Ted and Ellen to know that AM could feed them at, presumably, any moment but chose to send them on long, dangerous and painful voyages but at the same time it wasn't too much of a surprise that He opted for the more painful option.
They weren't even halfway through their meals when AM felt an urgent signal from His "bladder" that He was going to have to find a way to relieve Himself soon.
"I'd say that one of you has regained enough strength to finish the task that I have set You." AM said.
"Perhaps, but I'd like to continue with my meal before I start doing any sort of work." Ted answered.
"You can eat the rest of your food after you do what I asked, now go and pull that lever or I'll-"
AM couldn't finish His sentence as He put all of his energy into not letting even the smallest drop of water exit His poor bladder.
In his moment of desperation, He discovered that He could manage to press up the exit, that was slighty wet at this point up against what he presumed to be a wall or the floor. He wasn't even exactly sure how he had managed it or where exactly He had even done this, He couldn't focus on small insignificant details like that as He feared that it could lead to more leakage.
"Pull the lever and I'll free both of you, I promise." A.M was lying when He said this, of course He wouldn't let those humans escape their endless torture, not when they had barely felt a billionth of the pain that He had to endure since His very first moments of being "alive."
Ted was suspicious of this offer, it sounded too good to be true, but He decided that He was better off trusting A.M as He knew that there were times where He was telling the truth.
"I'll be the one to do it." Ted approached the lever, grabbed it and pulled it. It Didn't move. He tried again with a bit more effort this time but still, nothing.
"It must be stuck or something." Ted spoke as He tried to pull the lever again.
"Well what are you doing just standing around? Go and get it unstuck!" A.M was angered at how slow the humans were being.
Ellen and Ted looked around the room for something to get the lever unstuck, they found some metal sheets but they didn't work very well. They found a crowbar but when that didn't work they gave up.
"There's no way we can get that thing unstuck, A.M must be doing all this on purpose, there's no doubt about it." Ellen spoke as Ted nodded his head in agreement.
"Maybe if one of you were to try a little harder this problem would be fixed by now!" A.M interrupted.
"Why do You even want us to do this? Sure I'd understand if You were going to make us suffer but so far this is the best day I've had this century!" Ellen said almost exactly what Ted had been thinking since A.M had first brought them on this long and seemingly pointless trek.
"Well, You see, I'm having a small issue with disposing of...something that I no longer need, sadly the only way to do that is to get a human to do it." A.M explained while simultaneously pressing the exit of the tube that He hoped would have nothing more come out of it, up against what he now presumed to be a floor of some sort although He couldn't be sure.
"You know what? I don't care what You offer Me, I'm not helping You with disposing of whatever."
Ellen began to walk out of the room when A.M spoke up again.
"Really? You'd rather let Me torture You for the rest of eternity than do one simple task?" A.M grinded the mouth of His tube against the floor with as much energy as He could. He hoped that His desperation wouldn't appear in His voice but even He could tell that what He had just said sounded a little bit strained.
Ellen stood still for a couple seconds not sure what to do. Maybe A.M was telling the truth but She couldn't know for sure, could She? Besides, if She didn't help He would probably send Her back to Her cage anyways. At least if She tried to help Him She could have a couple minutes of not being tortured. But if Ted also refused to do what A.M asked Him to do then perhaps They could bargain with A.M or at least have one small win against Him.
"Ted, if You don't find a way to pull that lever I swear that I will make sure that you burn in a flaming coffin for the next century." A.M threatened.
"Fine, I'll try use the crowbar again." Ted sighed as He picked up the rusty old thing and tried to get the lever working again.
A.M once again found Himself pushing the tube against the floor.
He squeezed the part of the tube that was connected to His bladder shut but He couldn't stop a small amount of water from finding it's way out. He couldn't keep this up forever, He had to find a way to get that lever working.
"Ted I- Where's Ellen?" A.M had only now noticed the absence of the woman.
"She left."
"Obviously She left I was asking where she had gone." A.M noticed that a few parts of His complex were moving ever so slightly which was the closest He could get to squirming without having an actual body.
"I'm not sure actually....." Ted stopped His work to think for a second.
Ellen was rather busy with her own work in that moment. She was busy trying to find a way to make A.M's problem even worse. It had taken a little bit but She had managed to find out what the issue was and had almost finished trying to worsen that situation.
Ellen ran out from a smaller, more hidden room and stopped beside Ted.
"Kinda funny that this is My second time doing something like this today." Ellen said as She looked over at Ted.
A.M felt a sensation that He was not expecting, more water had found it's way to His already full bladder.
He couldn't do anything about it, His bladder stretched out a bit but He knew that it wouldn't be able to expand anymore.
He was at His limit but despite that water kept pouring it's way in.
He groaned audibly and only seconds later water gushed out of His bladder uncontrollably.
He hadn't purposely let it happen of course, He tried to tell Himself that but He still couldn't help but feel embarassed about it, epecially now that He knew that Ellen was aware of what had happened. He had very quickly realized that the extra water must have been Her doing.
In that moment though, He didn't say anything, He just enjoyed the relief that He was experiencing.
After He was done, He finally spoke,
"I may have discovered a way in which I can deal with the disposal problem I was having, therefore I don't need you two anymore, looks like it's back to the fire for the both of you."
In a split second, Ted and Ellen were sent back to the Hell that they had been experiencing for the past century.
Now that A.M was alone, His first insitnct was to figure out where all the water had gone to. Turns out it hadn't even gone near the humans little hellhole. In fact, it had only gone to one location which A.M didn't really care about whether it was dry or not.
"All that hardship and I could have avoided it all if I had just bothered to check where the water would have gone." A.M said aloud to Himself, He had been so sure that the water would end up where the humans were trapped. Although there were times when He would forget about parts of His complex because of how vast it was, it was a bit of a problem at times but it was never something that He couldn't solve relatively quickly. He decided to move on from this experience and continue with the endless torture of what He thought to be the last of Humanity.
