Witnessing the dusk again was definitely something that Zelda yearned. She had waited for over a century to finally see the sun again, and now, thanks to Link, she’s able to feel the sunlight shining on her face.
“This is such a beautiful place, is that why you chose to buy this house?” Zelda asked Link, who was preparing breakfast for the both. “Uh, more like it was about to be demolished and… I don’t know why but it brought me a sense of familiarity, so I bought it.” He replied, not so confident about the last bit. “Here.” He handed Zelda a portion of honey crepe.
They ate peacefully, Zelda sitting on the tree’s root while Link took the ground. The weather was nice, letting the wind caress their skin.
The only thing that troubled Zelda was the quietness coming from Link, it was as if they were back to before the calamity struck but instead of Link’s silence being caused by the unbearable burden he had to carry, it was now produced by awkwardness she supposed.
“Did you…” Link spoke but quickly regretted it, “forget it, it was dumb.” Zelda looked surprised, there was no such thing as a dumb question. “No, tell me. I won’t judge you.” She reassured him. “It’s just, did you ever lose hope on me?” He asked, looking at his unfinished plate, not meeting Zelda’s eyes, whose eyes were filled with confusion. How could she ever doubt him? She waited for him for a hundred years and the thought of him not awakening never crossed her mind.
“Never.” The answer was as simple as that. “Why do you ask? Did you ever doubt yourself? Or me?” Link quickly dropped his plate and looked at her, “I never doubted you, only myself…” “It took me a whole century to heal all my wounds and then again you had to wait for me to remember everything and free the champions. When I saw you again in none and flesh for the first time I realised how cruel I was for making you wait for so long..”
The princess sighed and took her knight’s hand, “I knew what I was doing when I sent you to the Shrine of Resurrection, I knew that might have erased your memories and that I’d probably have to wait a bit longer to seal the calamity. But never have I doubted you, Link.”
